I did a fresh installation of fedora 14 last night and today I wanted to install openoffice 3.x and I followed the instructions given on the openoffice page.The installation went of successfully but the openoffice icons don't appear on my menu.if i do

Good day, having a spot of bother with Openoffice, for some unknown reason im finding majority of the menu & button names have been replaced with "O" characters instead. Its doesn't effect all, but for example in the Writer, the only drop down menu at the top being render correctly is "Table". code...
All the buttons/sub buttons still work if you can guess where their pointing!
The only way I can seem to solve it is to remove "openoffice.org-gnome" & "openoffice.org-gtk" package.
Ive tried a complete reinstall already. Its usable without the above gnome and gtk extras but obviously not as nice to look at.
Im sure it was working fine the last time I used it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a /boot partition, and the online update process has downloaded the upgrade to /boot/upgrade. The problem is that grub is actually booting from a directory /boot which is in the root partition, but is invisible once the machine has booted, because the /boot partition is mounted over it. The result of all this is that the upgrade option does not appear in the boot menu, because that option has been inserted in the menu.lst (or grub.conf) in the /boot partition. is it ok for me to run:grub-install /dev/sda4(that's the device that contains the /boot partition where the upgrade menu option and data). Also, do I need the --root-directory option, given that the boot directory is the root directory of that partition.

Well, OK, I can live with thatAfter dragging anyting inside Netbeans (windows, menus, ETC), Unity Launcher stops dodging windows and autohiding. It just sits on the screen. It starts to behave normally only after I restart Netbeans. Now- that's pretty annoying.EDIT: Even worse: If I exit Netbeans during debugging session, I must exit Firefox as well before launcher starts behaving normally again. Now, that's entirely unacceptable. Good enough reason to remain on "Ubuntu Classic" (what's left of Gnome that is), and eventually switch do different distro or even... ungh... WAMP.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently done a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04. Since then I have had no end of trouble with Openoffice 3.2.
When I open any office app, the text on the menus is corrupted and has lines going through it. I've included some screenshot to show what I mean.
Also, sometimes when I open an Excel spreadsheet my entire system crawls to a standstill and it can take anything up to 10 minutes for it to respond again. Not even the mouse cursor will move. If I reboot the PC and open the same document it will sometimes be just fine. It is very random.
So far I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling openoffice.org from apt-get, but this hasn't fixed the problem.
My system:
OS: Ubuntu 10.04
CPU: Core 2 Duo
GPU: nForce 610i/nVidia 7050 (onboard VGA)
RAM: 2GB
I would like to know if there is a solution to this problem. The multimedia hotkeys (play/pause, stop, volume up/down, volume mute, ecc) stop working when i open any menu (for example mintmenu, that i use, or any menu of firefox like bookmarks) or if i start an application, such as openarena. The major problem is for volumes keys, that stop working in these cases.
Any ideas? I tried to change keyboard model, disable hotkeys mapped in prefereces->keyboard shortcut (with this they just stop working), but nothing changed.
i wiped my entire hard drive that had xp as its only OS. I freshly installed a Windows 7 ultimate and everything went perfectly. I then decided to install 10.4. I split the partitions correctly (i had experience doing this already with my laptop, which has xp/10.4). Ubuntu 10.4 install went flawlessly, except for one thing. Now when i boot up the pc, it goes straight into 10.4. I have tried holding shift during the start up to force the boot menu, and it just shows the Ubuntu 10.4 OS as choices. Any clue what i could do to make Win7 appear in the boot menu?

View 2 Replies View Relatedusing 32 & 64 bit, lucid's openoffice 3.2 autorecovery doesn't activate after crash. 1 upgrade was from hardy to lucid and the other from karmic, regardless neither works. in hardy, after a power out, machine freeze, etc., i would reboot and log in, then ALL OO files that were open would be recovered from the wizard. Now that's gone. Yes, the AutoRecovery save option is set, it just doesn't appear after a crash like it used to.

Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

I've just installed 11.3 on my mother's laptop. I downloaded and installed Swiftfox, but there's no evidence of it in the menu. I can double-click the Swiftfox.desktop icon in /usr/share/applications, and Swiftfox runs properly. However, it's not listed in the KDE menu.Is there a way to manually update the menu?I didn't have this problem with the previous version of openSuse on this computer. I've done a clean install of XP Pro on my HP XW8200 (Boot drive is 2x73GB SCSI drives set up as RAID 1)I've run the Ubuntu 10.10 desktop installer and partitioned the drive, installed ubuntu and rebooted when requested.No OS selection screen appears after POST though. Just goes straight into WinXP. The startup options in XP only show XP.Rebooted from the Ub10.10 live cd and checked that the partition is there and the OS files are there.
Any ideas why the grub menu doesnt appear?I'm assuming it's something to do with Ubuntu not seeing the RAID drive but it did install ok..
Any word on Mint Menu working on Ubuntu 11? I couldn't get it to load. I don't have the exact error, but I did allow the error report to be sent up to Conical.
