Fedora :: No Audio After Sleep/resume On FC14?
Dec 4, 2010Whenever I resume my laptop, there is no audio... the only way to make it work is to restart my comp ...I am using fedora 14 on Thinkpad x201 .

Jul 24, 2010Running FC13 on Dell E6410. Everything was great until I ran the latest update about a week back. I started to see (or actually not see) that after resume from sleep the mouse cursor will disappear. It is there, just not work showing. If i click on left click on the desktop I get the menu, I can also "see" going over windows from time to time as I move it. I'm currently running 2.6.33.6-147.fc13.i686.PAE I think previously it was /vmlinuz-2.6.33.5-124.fc13.i686.PAE Nvidia driver is 195.36.31

Jan 17, 2015Just recently I notice this behavior. When the machine sleeps either on timeout or after closing the lid, it doesn't come back on opening or hitting esc etc..
The machine seems to come back to life, but the screen stays black. I even tried Ctl-Alt-F1 with no response.

Feb 19, 2010I'm having trouble getting conky to start automatically after resume from sleep. I've tried putting a copy of my conky startup script into /etc/pm/sleep.d but nothing happened.

Mar 11, 2010I'm sure this doesn't need a new thread but after searching for a bit I didn't find much about this. The problem is this;My system sleeps quite well, I can resume from sleep and get back to the desktop. However. the one thing that doesn't resume is > networking.I can disable> re-enable networking from the NM-applet and it tries again to connect but won't.I can sudo /etc/init.d/ networking restart, which essentially is the same as above. No connectionI've run ifconfig, and the connection is there but no address. Has this bug not been solved? Is it just a driver issue with my particular network card?It's the realtek 8201, part of the VT8237 chipset.Does anyone know what to do about this? I've been avoiding sleep mode on this computer for a very long time because of this bug.

Jan 21, 2010I just bought a Logitech V470 bluetooth mouse. It's no problem to let it work under Koala 9.10 (gnome), but after shutdown/standby/sleep, it doesn't work anymore. With my USB mouse, I have to click the bluetooth icon and select 'switch off bluetooth'. After that, I click 'switch on bluetooth' and bluetooth works again. I thought switching on and off bluetooth with the applet is the same as 'sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth start/stop', but it isn't! The previous command greyes out/in the bluetooth icon, but it doesn't resume my bluetooth. If 'sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart' would work, I would be able to add this line into /etc/pm/sleep.d, so it's automatically loaded on resume.

Oct 13, 2010When my akoya mini E1210 with UNR10.10 resumes after sleep my wifi searches forever and then cuts out. When I do iwconfig the card seems normal for about a minute and then I do iwconfig again it gives gives no id. Reboot and bang, everything perfect. Did make new driver from latest ralink driver, as explained by Sven ,but nu change. Also blacklisted the rt2800 and rt2x00.
Seems that after sleep the wifi card driver is not loaded. Worked like a charm in 9.10 and in 10.4 (upgrade from 9.10). After update to 10.10, it went wrong.
extra: when I do sudo ifconfig ra0 up I get the message "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted" Also, after hibernation, no luck...
in dmesg found that the mailbox keeps MCU active, and rt2860 could not be initialised.:

When Evolution Mail is not used, everything is ok. I know this message is not related to mail, but it helps for a while. After longer period of sleep, same problem again. Firmware problem?
Ubuntu :: Sleep Resume Making Login After Upgrade?
Jul 12, 2011I have upgraded from Ubuntu 9.x to 10.04 LTS after the upgrade, my netbook goes to sleep in a short period of time and makes me login every time i resume. This is very annoying as i have to wait for login and sometimes my wifi connection drops. I just quickly want to check my messages. The delay is annoying and has me using a windows (argh) laptop instead. i miss my ubuntu netbook.
i have tried adjusting power management setting to never go to sleep and adjusted some other power management module from the command line, but with no luck. is there a way to reset the sleep pref's or any way to fix this.

May 2, 2010All audio and sounds work just fine until I close my laptop's lid for a spell and reopen. On resume, there is simply no sound at all. It's all fixed when I restart, but being a laptop, I like being able to close the lid and come back to it every now and then.
I believe it's an issue from when Ubuntu changed their audio in the transition between Jaunty and Karmic, and it never got fixed. FYI, it worked just fine in Jaunty.
From past postings and research, it seems to be a lack of something 'waking up' or restarting when the lid opens. However, it's not 'alsa restart' or 'pulseaudio restart' or whatever. It's one little bug that keeps me from having sound without a restart.

Aug 23, 2011I think there is a bug with gmixer on fc14 using lxde. Every time I log out and log back on gmixer spawns another process. So if I log out and log back on 6 times I will have 6 gmixer processes running concurrently.

There are some problems I would like to work out by myself before I take short-cuts, as if.I have tried to install codecs for my o/s media player and get a reply from computer "xxxx does not have sudoer rights, you will be reported."I tried to get sudoer rights and was told I had to have administrator rights first. To get administrator rights I needed sudoer rights. I decided to come to forums to ask and this is my first post.
Is there a danger in getting administrative rights? If so, I would still rather like to face the danger than not be able to play music. And how do I get real superuser rights? My root account is localhost.localdomain and my login account is XXXX. I would have access to everything rather than have a warning that the administration is receiving reports of my activity. Might anyone have help?

Jul 30, 2011I'd like to update my version of gsl to 1.15 (it has improved integration routines) Downloading & compiling worked, but I'm hesitant to overwrite the default packages with ones I compiled myself since there's a lot of compilation flags etc I may be getting wrong. On top of that, I need the header files from gsl-devel too to link against, and I'm not sure how that works. (Where to place them etc)Is there any way to use these packages to install on fc14?Should I just compile it myself?And what about the devel headers?

I understood that raw1394 and video1394 modules are now deprecated. So firewire_ohci and firewire_core are loaded when I plug in the camera. There is no more /dev/raw1394 and /dev/video-0 streams, but now there are /dev/fw0 and /dev/fw1.

Feb 13, 2011where you only get offered the kernel-headers for 2.6.35.11-83 by yum but not the kernel or the kernel-devel? I tried yum clean all and both pointing to the baseurl and mirrorlist and it does the same thing for both. Oddly my other laptop with F14 in the wireless cafe showed all three packages were available.

Feb 16, 2011Ever since I have upgraded form fc 11 to 14, I cannot login using the KDE desktop, I am forced to use gnome. The problem with that is that KDE apps are not running well, slow and often crashing, when I try to use them under gnome.
Symptoms.
1. Attempting to log in as any user with either KDE or KDE failsafe selected brings up the KDE splash screen, the hard drive icon, and occasionally the wrench icon.. a long pause and then back to the login screen.
2. I have these problem described in other Linux forums and have attempted to implement their recommendations
2.1 Deleted the .kde and other directories associated with KDE, reinstalled KDE.
2.2 Checked the permissions on all the requisite files and directories to ensure that they were good.
2.4 Looked through endless log files for ANY clues.. none
3. KDE applications, like ocular, take about a minute to start up, respond very slowly and eventually stop responding. Gnome applications work normally.

Fedora Installation :: Can't Install FC14 / Sort It?
May 13, 2011I'm trying to install FC14 on my box... without any success so far
The problem: when it comes to write the partitioning scheme to the disk, the system freezes. This occurs with the following CD images:
- Fedora 14 LXDE live image. Installation using "Install to Disk" script.
- Fedora 14, regular i386 image
- Fedora 15 (beta) LXDE live image
I did further tests and found out that I could simply reproduce the problem by trying to write a partition on /dev/sdb using fdisk:
- after executing the fdisk 'w' command, the system hangs for about 10-15 seconds
- no kernel message can been seen during this time using dmesg
- after those 10-15s, the system freezes. I have no other option but power off the machine.
There is no Hardware problem with the disk itself. I can read/write partition on that disk without problem using another distro.
Does someone have a few ideas what to do?
Fedora Installation :: Trying To Get Dial-up Working On FC14
May 14, 2011I'm trying to get dial up working using wvdial, kppp or system-config-network. Whatever I try, it shows "no modem found." I'm using a US Robotics serial modem that's worked with other linux set-ups, so I know it's not the modem. What's the command to find a serial modem in the terminal? lspci doesn't show it.
And any info on getting any of these to work..especially system-config-network! Had it working with linux Mint's LXDE on an older Thinkpad, but something happened after an up date (kept saying that an IBM system was detected and refusing to load a module when it booted.) After update, didn't show that warning, perhaps loading the module.
Old Thinkpad hasn't loaded an operating system since! Won't even load gparted so I can get something else on it.....so I'm sticking with Fedora until I can figure it out. Got another old Thinkpad, don't want to repeat the same mistake. Guessing that it's a debian problem, as Mint's never broken anything before.
