Fedora Networking :: Use Wireless-Assistant 0.5.7 There's No Connection - AP Logs Show Numerous Connections And Disconnections
Jun 20, 2009
I'm trying to get wireless working in F10. Using pci wireless card with Atheros chipset. To be sure, I tested this hardware with a PCLinuxOS Live CD. Connects to AP perfectly.
Hardware drivers seem all OK in F10, and ifconfig shows wlan0 as expected. When I use the Wireless-Assistant 0.5.7 there's no connection.
Actually, the AP logs show numerous connections and disconnections.
Preferring CLI, I'm using a drop-dead simple wpa_supplicant.conf as follows :
Should Ipost some debugging output from wpa_supplicant -Dwext -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf -iwlan0 -d

I am using Fedora 12. I am able to connect to my wireless network (95% of the time at least) on start-up automatically, however after anywhere between a few seconds to a few minutes later it cuts out and will not reconnect. It appears to be that whenever it finds next doors network it disconnects from mine! I have set the channel to 9, and my neighbor's is on 1. I have a USB N+ adapter, and a G+ MIMO PCI card, however do not know which is being used to connect with.

So it snatched up this old Dell Inspiron 5100 with a WN511B wifi card. When I plug the card into the slot nothing happens and no wireless connections show up. Can someone walk me through on getting the wifi card to work?

I'm curious; for a current project a server has 4 network interfaces (eth0 and eth2 are in a bonded pair using the bonding module, and then eth1 is being used for management, while eth3 is currently unused but may be utilized for iscsi in the future).
We need to configure two different hostnames, one for the bonded pair (bond0) and one for eth1. Now I have been googling around to try and figure out how the heck this is done but I can't find much of anything. In some methods it mentions using the hostname command, however this isn't persistant after reboot.
Another mentions just editing the /etc/hosts file but I thought that was only used locally? Both bond0 and eth1 will be on separate VLANs with different DNS servers, so it needs to end up with two different FQDN's

Just had an issue crop up where connecting wired network seems to stop wireless connections from getting an IP (happens on multiple networks both while the cable is plugged in and once it's been unplugged; also persists across reboots). Machine is a Dell Latitude 2120n with UnionFS running. Connection was working fine prior to the wired connection

I have my router configured so that it drops outgoing telnet connections (and other protocols I don't use). It's a 2wire gateway. 192.168.1.65 is the internal IP of my ubuntu box.I'm trying to figure out what normal network traffic looks like and whether I should be worried by this log entry. At the time this happened I was testing out TOR (just navigating to a few sites (dell, ubuntu forums, etc.) nothing all that interesting.)

Ubuntu 9.04 with working wlan. I had to restart router & wap. It doesn't seem to ever retry to connect. I know my router & wap are good, I have wireless working on other laptop (running Puppy) I had to go into 'edit connections' in drop down and use 'wireless' tab then edit 'wireless connection 1' and hit 'apply' is there a better way to do this? also, no connections show up with command 'iwconfig' edit: with ifconfig, eth1 si showing data my ip address and packets sent & rcvd. I think I'll try do duplicate this event and use 'ifconfig eth1 down' and then up again to see if it reconnects.

My current network setup at home is all wired, and that's worked for me so far. Now I want to set up a wireless connection on my Linux box that I can connect to with both my laptop and my Nintendo DS. I'd like to be able to host a wireless network from the Linux box, connect to it with some other wireless device, and have the wireless device communicate with the router, the internet, and other computers on the wired network. I have the wired network set up (statically configured) as eth0. Other network adapters present on the system are eth1 (not in use) and wlan0, wlan1, and wlan2 (identical cards, remnants from the last time I experimented with wireless).
So I guess my question comes in two parts:
1) How do I set up wlan0 such that it can host? Is Ad-hoc mode okay for this, or do I need to set it up in Master mode?
2) How do I forward connections between the wireless net and the router?
Note that I will be using WEP, as it is all that the NDS supports. I'd like to set up MAC filtering as well, but not until after I get something that works.

I was having trouble with my wireless connection, it was dropping every 5 minutes or so after upgrading to 10.04 and ran across a thread where someone recommended entering
Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic
After entering the command I have lost all ability to even use my wireless ability even if it was for 5 minutes. Now I am using a different kernel, internet still drops every 5 minutes, but would love to get my internet up and running again.
I am using a Dell Studio XPS Laptop
Code:
*-network
description: Ethernet interface
product: MCP79 Ethernet

I installed Nvidia drivers according to the post in HowTos section. It downloaded a different version of the existing kernel, i guess. And the kernel using which I downloaded, when shows up GUI, looks like a Safe Mode of Windows. So I boot the kernel that it downloaded. And there the problem is that in Network Manager applet, it doesn't show me the wireless connections. It doesn't even show the Enable Wireless checkbox upon right clicking it. How to get it back?

I am running FC13 on a Compaq Presario 2100 using a Broadcom BCM4306. I was able to get it running thanks to Fedora Unity Project. But It's a very unstable connection. I don't know what settings to adjust or enable or disable. It's not my router, this is the only wireless connection in the house that I have trouble with.

This may fall under the "ain't broke don't fix it" category but it's driving me nuts. I've got the Broadcom 4322 wireless adapter in my laptop and it works fine with broadcom-wl driver and kmod. However there is no ifcfg-eth1 file and the card does not show up in system-config-network.

I want to identify why my ISP is sometimes slow, and wonder how and what tools to use. The problem is as follows: While the lines are very fast, I experience that at times of day where there are presumably high traffic, a new initial connection is very slow and unstable. For example getting response from DNS is slow. And after getting the answer, getting response from a web server is also slow. Or sometimes there is no response at all, and I have to retry. Running a speed test will show high data rates. So it is only initial connection that is slow/unstable.
What is the explanation for these symptoms? Are there some tools and tests I can use to pinpoint the problem from home, without/before contacting the ISP?

In Gnome, I can get my wireless connection working no problem. However, my work PC uses KDE and I'm kind of used to it now, so I've installed KDE on to my Fedora system (v11, 64-bit). I cannot get a wireless connection with KDE at all.
As an aside, Gnome manages my dual monitor set-up just fine, whilst KDE doesn't - it gives me the same display on both screens.
why what is effectively a different front-end should make such a difference to the internal programs - a bit like respraying your car from red to blue and then finding out you need to change the engine as well.

My Fedora 10 install runs from a single PC, from a single location. I'd like the connection, via wireless, to automatically connect to my home network. Right now, I suspect that NetManager scans all the options first. But that's a waste of time. How do I set things up to skip all that and just grab the only connection that will work?I have NetManager set up to "Auto linksys" with MTU set for "automatic" too. I've Googled around for this, but maybe have missed something. Too often, at login I do NOT connect though the network is available. I suspect there's a way to lock this in that I have not yet discovered...

I have fedora12 installed on my old laptop. I would like to use it as a wireless router so that I can use my new laptop without wires. The old laptop will be wired connected to the internet. I have already tried creating a wireless ad-hoc connection with the Network Manager and I manage to connect to the internet with my new laptop but only if I don't use any protection. If I want that connection to use WPA or WEP-128 it doesn't work!

I decided to give linux a try on an old laptop I had at my house. It's a Dell Inspiron (don't remember the model, will update as soon as I get home). Installation was flawless and extremely fast, but I cannot connect to my house's wireless network. I had exactly the same problem with Ubuntu, which is why I tried Fedora. I had installed Ubuntu over a year back and it had worked flawleslly, but I had to loan the pc to a friend so I reinstalled Windows.
Wireless drivers are Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 which should be included in the kernel. I am a complete Linux/Fedora n00b, just want to start learning.

I am trying to setup a wireless connection between F10 and a HP J6480. I dnloaded the linux driver hplip-3.9.2, disabled the SELinux and ran the install. When I choose method of connecting - wireless it would not discover the device. The only way was to enable the USB descovery. Doing so, the computer found the printer and all is fine. What am I missing trying to enable the wireless connection. Note, that during this process, the USB was not connected. Also, I dual boot with Vista and I can run the printer wireless.

I had Fedora 7 which works fine with my PCI card Linksys WMP54G-EU (00:0b.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)).
It ran with ndiswrapper.1.51.
Yesterday I installed the live-CD Fedora 10 on a new partition in another hard drive and so I have Fedora 10 but WITHOUT Internet connection.
I tried to install Ndiswrapper but the 'make' command doesn't exist in my Fedora 10 !
What are all the things I need to download from Internet to ensure the several commands like 'make uninstall', 'make', 'make install'... and to ensure installing Ndiswrapper ?

I have a very strange problem with Fedora 12 and my wireless Broadcom 4311 card. After the installation of Fedora 12 the wireless card was visible but not activated. I did an extensive search in Internet and finally I got everything done. The card was visible and activated. I found my home network; the strength of the signal was nearly 100%.The problem is that although the card is visible and activated my browser is not working well. I can say that it is not working at all. Even now I am using other computer to write this message because Firefox cannot load any web page at all.
The strange part of the problem comes with the fact that when I open terminal window and when I am using yum everything looks OK. The speed is very low though.Does anybody have some ideas about the problem and its solution? When I use Windows on the very same computer everything is fine, the Internet speed is close to the maximum limits of my provider's speed which is 10 mbps.

I have a dual boot (XP Pro and F13) laptop. This laptop has a Ralink RT2501USB Wireless Adapter which works perfectly fine on XP. But when it comes to F13, adapter only works properly when I am physically next to my router. When I move few feet away the strength of the connection drops from 100% to around 40%. But even though 40% should be okay for slow connection to internet, I can't get any internet access at all. I have tried three different routers with same results on each.
When I boot same machine with windows XP, all works fine. I can move to any part of my house and I will still have the connection without any issues.I can see that RT73 driver is installed if I check in add remove program under system.I am not an expert but to me its seems that the drivers on F13 for RT2501USB are not as good as on windows?
