I'm trying to send the results of a command line $du --max-depth=1 to a zenity message box.I want to create a .sh script that I can run as a Nautilus script that will open a zenity message box with a listing of sub-folders/sizes. $DU with options, will provide the results in a terminal window, but I can't seem to get it into a zenity message box. I've tried gxmessage also, but no go.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a client and server program in C. in that program server is requesting some parameters from client (like systems up time, total memory, no of process running etc).for this i used switch statements. but the problem i am having with this is that,
1. it is always going in default case on client side.2. and i also want my program to send requests/messages to client periodically. means after some interval (say after every 2,3 mins) server sends next request to client.

I am trying to create a server on my laptop. I have a windows 7 OS. I have downloaded Apache HTTP Server, MySQL Server and PHP. My Apache seems to be working well at one point i.e., when I use the http://localhost "It Works" does show in the browser. When I attempt to sign on the MySQL Server with my password the command prompt shuts off so quick I can't even read what the window says. The MySQL server seems to be running in the task manager under mysqld.exe.
End goal: have mysql running and adn communicating with php on apache.
I've setup DHCP and a DRBL server on my box running Lucid, and everything is working fine except TFTP.TFTP is configured, but when I try to start it with:Quote:service tftpd-hpa startThe following is returned:Quote:

I want to send something through the serial port, for example
[code]...
the point here is send some numbers to a couple of 7 seg displays, so I will wire a RS232 chip on a protoboard, the logic after the RS232 is not an issue, but how can I assure the data is being sent right from my linux box to the RS232 chip, the one on the protoboard? Do I have to write a C program to read the strings and then send them to the serial port?For example if I wanted to send this to the displays:
[code]...
So I guess the simplest way is (Supposing I can deal with the stream so it is filtered and only display the number array) $ ifstat > /dev/ttyS0 But, how do I know if the RS232 will take them as the right characters?
I'm running Red Hat Linux 5.4 on HP DL580 server with 16 processors and 64 GB of RAM. I'm connecting to the server remotely through SSH. after entering the password, it takes time to return the command line, if I click ctrl+c during this time, I'll have the command line prompt but not the correct bash prompt (I have to run bash to pass to my correct prompt).I tried to install Apache on the server, ./configure took 4 hours to finish instead of 1 or two minutes, Oracle installation same behavior. Server Disks are mirrored using RAID controller.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've installed openMPI-1.4.1 on my laptop and I'm trying to compile some fortran code I've written using MPI. I downloaded the openMPI-1.4.1 file from the openMPI website and used the shell script they provide to install it. This is the shell script:
shell$ cd openmpi-1.4.1
shell$ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local
shell$ make all install
There was an additional line extracting the tar file, but I did this by hand. The first time I ran this script there was an error on the final stage saying that a directory couldn't be created because of lack of permission. I decided to run the script again this time as a sudo.
Having run the script again everything appeared to install properly, however when I went to compile some fairly simple code I got a message saying that the compiler couldn't find MPI. I was using this command: gfortran messages.f90 -o messages I looked on the openMPI website where it recommends compiling with a compiler called mpif. However when I type mpif messages.f90 -o messages I get an error message saying mpif isn't a recognized command......
in the middle of script, i need to send the output of (send command on line 8) to a file
#!/usr/bin/expect
spawn telnet 172.20.64.133
expect "ENTER USERNAM <"
[cod]....
i treid the below on line 8 :
1- send "show command;
" > logfile.txt : gives an error extra character after the "
2- logsave logfile.txt 'send "show command;
" ': error invalid command
3- i simply tried to send the output of the whole script to file logsave /home/logfile ./script : seems that logsave work under root only
4- ./script > logfile : the problem with this is that the output of echo or (read "enter your id") command will not be displayed on the screen (actually nothing will be displayed, i have to open the log file to see the output). is there any way to save the log of the "send" ? or to save the log of the complete script without hiding the output on the screen?
Here is the block of code : (The red part is the code that doesn't work) The file is not created and see the output after the code. # i loop create environment structure and k loop create std procedure sub structure.

eval mkdir $"acsayul02501_${i}"

View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the logon prompt, after logging on, Slackware always gives me some sort of little humorous saying, of no particular consequence and is of no value except some entertainment. Today, upon logging on I got this message upon logging on:
Dsk crisis, please clean up
What is the significance of this? If a fun thing, then explain the joke, or if a real system type of message, what is it talking about? I presume if it is a real system type message, and I do nothing, then I will get it the next time I log on also, but you never know. I am inclined to think it is just a joke I don't understand.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to send some messages from my Debian GNU/Linux to my Canaima GNU/Linux, i have tried with write: write user@host
But it says user is not logged in, apparently the write daemon have to be running in both machines to do this.
And i wanted to use talk, but i should install it in both machines ¿?
The thing is that i have like 10 machines i wanted to send messages to, but i cant find an easy way to do this.
Is there any other way i am missing? or it has to be the "hard" way
