Fedora Networking :: Unable To See Other Wireless Machines - Destination Host Unreachable

Feb 17, 2009

I've got a problem with 'seeing' other machines on my Network. I have two laptops both with F10 on them however I can't ping either of them. They can connect fine to the internet and ping the router, they are both on the same subnet with Firewalls disabled on both machines. When I try to ping it says: "Destination Host Unreachable". I've tried firing up Wireshark to see if that will give me any clue but even that doesn't show any packets whatsoever from the other machine across the Network. It's like they are completely invisible to each other.

Fedora Networking :: OpenVPN Configuration - Destination Host Unreachable

Mar 6, 2010

I have a problem with the Fedora 12 Network Manager - OpenVPN configuration. If I use the same configuration and manually start openvpn (as client) I get connected to the OpenVPN server and I can ping the network that I am accessing. With Network Manager - I get connected but when I try to ping is giving me "Destination host unreachable". The routing table looks similar except that when connecting with network manager is giving me on more route in table

Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 wlan0
192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 2 0 0 wlan0
192.168.171.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 tap0
0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 wlan0

Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of the OpenVPN server. When connecting "manually" I this routing table

Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 2 0 0 wlan0
192.168.171.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 tap0
0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 wlan0

What I do wrong in Network Manager? If I try to delete the route with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is disconnecting the vpn connection.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Dell1955 - Get Destination Host Unreachable?

Jul 30, 2010

I have 5 1955 blades in an enclosure for an custom application cluster. All were running Centos 4.4 no problem. We wanted to start upgrading them cleanly to 5.5 so two of them got fresh installs of 5.5.The installs went well enough, no glaring errors. However they can only ping each other! The network settings are fine, no firewall or selinux. I'd run the info script but I can neither download it to them nor paste it in via kvm.Standard static entries, virtually identical to their 4.4 brethren. They ping each other so network drivers are fine, no built in switch configuration changes. It has to be some kind of network configuration issue that i'm just not seeing.

Edit* When i try and ping anything else, including the other blades, I get Destination Host Unreachable.

Programming :: Raw UDP Socket And ICMP Destination (Port) Unreachable?

Oct 26, 2009

I'm using a single raw socket to read UDP packets from local test network with 1024 ports. Each UDP src and dest port is unique and I need access to IP and UDP header fields. I can stream and process data (in and out) at 100 mbps in linux-rt kernel with very low jitter < 250 usec, 10 usec nominal.

I'd like to prevent kernel from issuing ICMP port unreachable errors back to the sending host, however, I don't want to create 1024 vanilla UDP sockets and bind to each one because of resource constraints. Currently, I'm using iptables to drop the outbound port unreachable messages. Does anyone know of a way (programmatic using C code) to prevent the ICMP unreachable traffic? Perhaps an IOCTL or socket option? I also tried changing /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_ratelimit but that seemed to have no effect. By default the ratemask is set for dest unreachables and a variety of ratelimit values did not change any behavior that I could see.

Networking :: Fedora 10 - Unable To Ssh Out From Box To Remote Host?

Apr 10, 2009

I have a box (boell) running Fedora 10 sitting behind a firewall at school. I am able to freely ssh to and from this box to other computers (minion) within that lan. Outside of this network I cannot directly ssh to boell - I must ssh first to minion, then I can ssh to boell. I've spoken with the sysadmin and he's verified that the firewall permits ssh freely - i haven't had any issues like this with other boxes of mine there, so this isn't any surprise.

I have verified that the hosts.deny file is blank, iptables permits ports 22 (and 80) and I didn't see anything obvious in the sshd_config. I tried a tcp dump on the external host and boell while attempting to ssh from the former to boell. The packets appear to be acknowledged by boell, but this fails to lead to a connection. I've tried this process with external hosts in different locations with the same result. I have made few modifications to the default installation for F10, so perhaps there is some default somewhere I have to change. In any case, below I have attached excerpts of germane files.

======== ssh from boell =======
[root@boell log]# ssh -vvv 71.189.5.67
OpenSSH_5.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007

Fedora Networking :: F13 Unable To Ping External Host From Behind Proxy

I can ping a host on my LAN successfully, but I cannot ping [URL]... for example. I have disabled the firewall and set http_proxy and can browse the internet with "Use system proxy settings" checked in Firefox. I am unable to update with yum either, but I am not sure if this is a side effect or not. I have run a trace on my ip address as I am browsing the internet and I can see the sites I am visiting on our web appliance. However, if I try to ping or update no requests are hitting the proxy so I don't think that is the issue.

Fedora Networking :: Upgraded Etherenet Cards / Unable To Access VPN And Web Host

Oct 5, 2009

I'm running a Fedora 10 box behind a Comcast cable modem that provides squid and mail services to 15 XP and Vista workstations. I upgraded the ethernet cards on our Fedora box to support our new 1 gigabyte network. I kept the same device configuration eth0 and eth2 by updating the /etc/udev/net persistent file and changing the ethernet hardware address in the respective ifcfg-eht files in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. The box booted to the new cards, the route and ifgonfig shows the new cards and their hardware addresses, the configuration looks as how the old cards looked (eth0 and eth2 respectfully). I was able to browse the local network and have access to the internet as before from inside the network . However I cannot get access to our web server that serves our web host and our VPN services from ouside our network. I tried stopping the firewall and still could nor connect from outside the network.Could my old ethernet hardware address be hard coded somewherel?

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Networks And Unable To Configure Network

Jul 27, 2010

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.

Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network

However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.

Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

Ubuntu Networking :: File And Printer Sharing Between Wired And Wireless Machines

Apr 28, 2011

I have:
1) A desktop PC running Ubuntu 10.04 and a Virtualbox guest, Windows XP. My printer is connected and operates via XP. Yep, its a Windows-only printer, but the VB file-sharing allows me to print Ubuntu files.
2.) Another desktop running Puppy Linux.
3.) A netbook running XP as a native install.

No. 1 and 2 are connected to a Level One router by ethernet cable. No. 3 is wireless. All 3 machines work fine independently, with no problems accessing the internet. Getting these machines to "see" each other seems to be harder than falling off a log! How to share files and the printer, especially on how to configure the router. The manual that came with it doesn't seem to explain how to do this. It assumes that all your devices are either wired or wireless, with no hints about how to network wired and wireless machines together.
