Fedora :: Nautilus Background Not Appearing Correctly?

Jan 22, 2010

I installed google-earth (newest) and when it failed to work I tried adding the /usr/google-earth dir to the library path via /etc/ld.so.conf.d/google-earth.conf ( i made this file and added the /usr/google-earth dir to it) this didn't work and I found the correct work around to remove the included libs in the /usr/google-earth dir forgetting to remove the first workaround i did.

now it gets weird... a little while after I ran gthumb and it crashed... run it in a terminal and I see it complaining about the same files as google earth was before ... uh oh i thought and removed my fix and rebooted... well X wouldn't start after that and I thought maybe I have to rebuild /etc/ld.so.cache so I ran ldconfig and reboot and now everythign works great EXCEPT when I open the "Computer" or Trash Icon from the desktop or menu the background is white (normally black) until i click view->compact or view->icon and it goes back to black... this repeats everytime I open the window and all newly open windowsI created a new user to test to see it it was profile related and the new user has the same behaviour.Fedora 12 (upgraded since fc7)Edit: I see this in ~/.xsession-errors

Code:
(nautilus:445): Eel-WARNING **: "nautilus-directory.c: directories" hash table s

Fedora :: Samba Shares Not Appearing In Some Nautilus Windows

Nov 23, 2010

I am in the process of migrating my small workplace to a basic spin i've created of f14. Everything is suave but some file browser windows eg: file upload in gmail, hotmail etc, does not show my samba shortcuts i've created nor even the option to browse the network in the "places" section. It shows other locally created shortcuts but no samba ones. Just to test it, even creating an ftp:// shoftcut yeilds no dice. I had a quick search through the forums and I couldn't find anything. I have a feeling this has an easy solution that my inferior brain cannot comprehend! Loving F14 on my macbook pro and so are my employees in my office! Feels much less bloated than Ubuntu IMHO.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Transparent Background Patch?

Mar 4, 2011

Nautilus transparent background patch by pr3ddi Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:10 pm here you go. a nautilus transparent background patch for everone who is not afraid to compile nautilus from source

new version available here --- http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1814132

what you will get: - a transparent nautilus desktop window in compiz, which has the usual desktop integration (icons and context menu) - a working wallpaper plugin, that can be set to show a different wallpaper on every screen - you can even use mplayer to play a video on your background

how it's done: - the nautilus desktop window is modified to render a transpart background, if a composited screen is detected - window type is changed from _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DESKTOP to _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_NOTIFICATION - window is set to be keept below all other windows and the mouse wheel event is proxied to the root window the patch was developed for nautilus 2.28.1 (Ubuntu 9.10) first and then applied to nautilus 2.30.1 (Ubuntu 10.04) the only difference in 2.28.1 is that there is one more row (below set_image_properties) in the original eel-background.c

Ubuntu :: Changed Background Image And Nautilus Crashes

I've been messing with settings of nautilus via
Code:

and selected a background image.
And from that moment on, nautilus crashes (reloads) on almost every right click, menu opening, and almost any action, nautilus should do (as a file manager). Running Nautilus from Terminal and observing the output left me with a blank output ... no errors, no warnings, just reset.

Sadly, that's the only view I ever use, and so I always have the boring white background. I would love a brushed metal look or something.

I had tried many distros over the years but settled on Ubuntu for the last two or three, unfortunately the new version of Ubuntu (Natty) has prompted me to make the change again. To keep access to all my Ubuntu docs e.t.c. I installed Fedora 14 on a seperate partition and hey presto, there's the Ubuntu partition for me to read from, problem is that my laptop still just boots straight into Fedora, this is ok on my laptop but I wanted to make the switch on my desktop as well which has the wife's Windows partition on it, not being able to boot into that would cause eruptions! On advice I typed this:-

it can be a result of this bug:[URL] but my glitches look different than the ones in there.

I have a Mobility Radeon HD 5650 video card. Should I just update my system regularly and hope it gets fixed, or is there some way to fix it by tweaking some settings or stuff? Maybe by installing the official ATI drivers? I'm not sure, but I've read somewhere that the official drivers don't work well with Gnome 3, is that true?

Restarted gnome shell, even tried logging out and back in, but they still appear there. Previously, in gnome2, desktop files under the home dir superceded the global directory. Do I need to edit them directly as root to effect the changes, or could this be a selinux problem?

I had success on that front, however, in the process of installing it, the option to connect to any wireless network disappeared. It isn't that there is no wireless network in range, rather, the entire wireless option itself has vanished.
