Software :: Can't Find Out How To Install Downloaded Programmes?
Jan 27, 2010I've just got this PC with originally SLED SP1 installed. After hours, it seems that it has updated to SP2, but I'm still lost! I can't open help files, and I can't find out how to install downloaded programmes. For example, I would prefer to use Google Chrome as browser, and I can download Chrome for Linux, it shows up on the desktop, but that's it!I have no idea how to install it - it doesn't show up on "new installation.

Sep 24, 2009I am using Mepis 8 and ever since the upgrade I have noticed that the screen saver takes over the screen even if a programme is running. This happens even whether the programme is in a window or the full screen.
Now I am quite sure this did not happen before the OS upgrade when it was underneath the running programme. At the moment the only solution I have is to active the screen saver at something like 120 minutes!
Incidentally I also notice that you cannot not have a screen saver. The minimum is a blank screen.
Do anyone know if it is possible to make the screen saver run in the background? Of course this may be a KDE problem.
OpenSUSE :: Gnome Minimised Apps

I'm using Gnome 2.3 under 11.3 x64.
Whenever I minimise an app, it disapperas from the taskbar. I've fixed it by installing the window selector; however, it only works for apps running in my main monitor. Anything on the external monitor doesn't show.
How do I fix this?

Feb 22, 2010A google search on this problem (minimised windows disappear) shows a number of simple solutions. None of them work on my system: KK, Kubuntu, 64 bit.
The most often given advice is:" expect your taskbar is missing the "Window List" applet.To add it: Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, choose "Add to panel", scroll down and add "Window List". "When I click on an empty area of the taskbar I see no option to 'Add to panel' The options are:
Add widgets (meaning unknown to me)Add Panel (which is NOT 'Add to panel'). This option does not appear to have any visible or useful result.

SUSE :: Panel To Display Minimised Window
Feb 5, 2010I've been experimenting with the system and as these things go I've done something and I can't undo it through lack of understanding. I've managed to disable the display of minimised windows in the panel at the bottom of the screen. To compensate I'm using a Widget which allows me to get back to the window as I need it. But I'd prefer to be able to simply click on the panel.

May 7, 2011Is there any way to prevent the Unity Launcher from auto hiding as I maximise a window? It takes a few seconds for the launcher to reappear when I point the cursor in the left corner of the screen which is a bit of a delay when I quickly want to multitask between multiple applications.

Apr 2, 2010I have a Samsung N130 with a Realtek 8192 wifi card (possibly 8192e, I'm not sure) and I am trying to run Fedora 12 on it. I used to run Ubuntu until trying their latest beta and realizing it's not very good, so I looked for something else. Ubuntu was at least easy to get the wifi working with just a few quick commands that were written out, word for word, in order, on the Ubuntu forums. I tried openSUSE on here and it didn't have wifi working out of the box either but people on their forums refused to give me actual instructions and just kept bumping me from thread to thread with people giving vague advice or else just telling me I was looking in the wrong place. I'm hoping that someone can give me clear and detailed instructions on how to get this wifi card working. Keep in mind that I am coming from Ubuntu and so I'm not super comfortable in CLI, if I need to do some CL stuff I will need clear and detailed instructions on how to do that.

My next step is to get some networking statistics such delay, throughput, etc. So, I need traffic to flow through the network for both multimedia traffic and bulk data traffic. How to send files between nodes on the network (I found commands ftp, rcp but do not know whether they are the correct choice for this). ID their any application to perform this?
Also, I want to perform some video streaming between two nodes to study the behavior of real time data transfer. Is thier any application to perform this?

Sep 13, 2010My laptop is currently running on Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a 320 GB HDD, which I have partitioned as follows. C: Drive as Windows 40 GB capacity and successively partitioned the rest of the drives for 50 GB capacity and left an unallocated space of 67 GB for fedora 13 x64 installation. The problem that I am facing is, that I am unable to install fedora on this unallocated space..even though I am checking the option for "Creating custom Layout". When I check the option for "Creating Custom Layout" Ive been shown with the only option to install fedora on the unused space on the HDD which is around 265 GB. I am also attaching a screen shot of my disk management. how I can install Fedora on this unallocated space of 67 GB?

Jun 3, 2011This post is for an HP parallel printer but I think it should work for at least "some" other parallel printers.I am sure that someone smarter than me will follow up this post with a "well, just do this and that" and you will have your HP Laserjet 6P printer ready to go, but since questions litter the forums of MANY distros on how to get "at least" an HP parallel printer to work, I'll post this anyway.This may or may not work for you if you do not have an HP but you can try it.The install printer box will let you do an install for an HP Parallel and it asks for how it is to talk to it, through CUPS sock or "local host'. When we get through what I recommend you should chose "local host".

Sep 28, 2009I have a Western Digital Pasport 320 GB hard drive. I wanted to create a live installation on it like a USB stick. I wanted it to serve as a portable OS that I could use to boot any other computer off of, and use it for diagnostics and anti-virus scanning on Windows based computers. The additional space is for my own personal use, kind of like having a mobile desktop where I have all of my documents in one place.What I need to know is how to set up Fedora 11 so that the hard drive will boot on most PCs regardless of their architecture. I also need to know what's a good Anti-virus to install onto it for the sake of fixing Windows hard drives.
Please keep in mind I'm a noob when it comes down to a lot of things, so if there's an antivirus I have to install manually, please included a step by step.
