Fedora :: Lost Nautilus And Can't Log On Now

Nov 5, 2009

Following a smaller problem I uninstalled Nautilus (bad idea) hoping a reinstall would fix the problem. I now get to the log on screen but can't log on, not as user or root. I can boot from CD and run the anaconda repair utility but this is where I have absolutely no idea what to do. I'm running F9 and the Gnome desktop environment.

Ubuntu :: Lost Top And Side Bars In Nautilus?

Mar 4, 2010

After starting up today, I noticed that nautilus has suddenly become quite minimalistic (see screenshot). Additionally, each folder opens in a new window (didn't before) and turns gray when it is opened. It looks the same running as root (except not themed, of course).

I've already done

Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge nautilus
sudo apt-get install nautilus nautilus-share gnome-session

Also, gksu no longer works properly. It always reports incorrect password, even when the password is correct. Luckily, gksudo does work. I don't know if this is related.

Ubuntu :: Lost Backgrounds & Emblems In Nautilus?

Oct 17, 2010

Well I was curious to try Nautilus Elementary from its PPA. The install was fine, but the search function was broken. After having issues removing the PPA and my package manager having errors I have old Nautilus back, but without its old Backgrounds and Emblems in the Edit menu. I tried doing remove completely of Nautilus and its related packages but I don't have the old nautilus back as I need it.

I don't want to have to reinstall everything just for one application, as it means configuring settings and installing the rest of my apps all over again.

Ubuntu :: Lost Default Icon Size In Nautilus?

May 28, 2011

some reason I lost my default icon sizes in Nautilus. This only appears to affect any graphic files like .jpg, .png, etc. that I keep in my "Pictures" folder. I also have this issue with video files that I keep in my "Video" folder.Currently I am running Ubuntu Natty and using the Ambiance theme that is customized with Faenznt icons. Nautilus is customized with Nautilus Elementary. Changing themes has no effect. The folders all appear normal and other icon file types appear normal, it's just my graphic d video files that are appearing small.Running dconf editor shows my icon setting is set to normal. I am enclosing a pic so you can see the folders display at a normal size, but the graphic files do not.

Ubuntu :: Shortcut To Access Sudo Nautilus (gksudo Nautilus) From The Current Window

It may be lazy but if it takes a lot of navigation then it would be handy to somehow activate sudo from the open window without the terminal command (gksudo nautilus) which always begins at root.

Ubuntu :: Move Nautilus Location Bar In Nautilus Up By Toolbar?

Apr 11, 2010

Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic:
http://i39.tinypic.com/2qdsyll.jpg

I'd rather not have to download the source of nautilus and edit the code / compile it myself.

By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.

I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.

Fedora :: How To Use 14 And Nautilus

Jan 18, 2011

I installed easytag via yum and it installed and worked fine. Then shortly after that I went to "Places" > "Home Folder" and when I clicked on Home Folder, instead of nautilus loading easytag loads.I removed easytag and the problem went away.

Then yesterday I went to play an mp3 in totem and got the message about the codec being missing. I used the automatic search that tries to find the right packages and solve the problem and installed the required packages to get the mp3's to play. Then when I click on "Home Folder" it launches totem and tries to open all files in my home directory.

Fedora :: Can Nautilus 2.3 Be Installed On Fc12?

Sep 21, 2010

I was at school today, where one of the computers had Ubuntu installed (for an advanced Operating Systems class). I happened to notice that the newest version of Ubuntu, happens to have a version of Nautilus that fixes the ONLY problem I have with it: instead of opening a new freakin window for every file you open, it opens it in a new tab of sorts; anyway, I decided that I REALLY want this, so I took a look at the version of Nautilus, and saw it was version 2.3.1 I downloaded the source files for it, but in poking around online, I have discovered absolutely no mention of Nautilus 2.3.1 on any Fedora Cores other than 13, and 14; and even those are usually in association w/ Gnome 2.3 which I've learned from a different thread, is not available for FC12. So I just want to know, before I dive into something potentially overwhelming, whether or not it can even be done. Has anyone successfully installed Nautilus 2.3 onto FC12? how did you go about it?

Fedora :: How To Create New Folder In Nautilus

Oct 18, 2010

In re of Fedora 13. I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to create a new folder with nautilus. Yes - I know about doing a right click in the background of the window to use the pop up menu to create a folder. BUT - ALAS - When the folder is full of files, there is no blank background space to click in so I cannot get the pop up menu to appear. Hence, I cannot create a new folder. Seems to me that the constant tinkering with Nautilus is leaving essential features missing or totally not-obvious to locate. Argh!!! Since the main menus are also missing (as compared to prior Fedora releases), I seem to be left with little choice other than to open a terminal window and do a mkdir command.
