View 2 RepliesI basically am hoping for a line of bash script I can put into "Open With" for folders so I can get a terminal with the right path. I hate manually typing in paths to places when I am looking right at them in nautilus. "gnome-terminal" doesn't work - it just opens a terminal to ~.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay,so I successfully created a right click menu in Nautilus Actions Configuration,But when I right click on a file it doesn't show that menu! I did not really create it,I just imported XML document,I clicked save when I done that,I still can't see the menus(I restarted and stuff)

but needs following input on this one
how can i create a simple right click menu entry on desktop so that i can rotate wall papers by clicking on that entry.
I am using GNOME and nautilus.
even a wall paper rotation shortcut key might help me at this movement,
at this point the only option i find is through right click on the icon placed in panel and then selecting next photo.
I installed nautilus-actions in order to edit the right-click menu when I click on pictures. All tutorials I read deal with adding custom entries to the right-click menu. But what I want to do, is to edit the present nautilus right click menu. In particular, I have installed nautilus-batch-rename, which comes in english. I want to translate the right-click entry "Rename files..." to German, since my system language is German, too. I already managed to translate the batch-rename pop-up program entries after clicking "rename files..." by editing nautilus-batch-rename.glade but I would love to translate "rename files..." as well.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI uninstalled xmms player quite a long time ago. I think when I had hardy heron. Currently I'm on 10.04. When I right click a .mp3 file I still have the option to play with xmms player showing up. Even if I choose an "other application" the xmms player option remains stickied to the top.Does anyone know how I can remove this entry? I did a lot of searching but couldn't find a solution.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn windows when I install gvim/vim, it automatically installs a context menu in explorer that lets me edit a file in gvim by simply right clicking and pressing v. For someone who edits a lot of files and is really used to vim, it is super-convenient. I want to do the same thing in nautilus. So I installed nautilus-actions and added to the context menu of editing with gvim. That wasn't hard. The hard part is getting that keyboard key to bind to that context menu item. Currently when I right click and press v, it sends the item to trash. I want it such that when I right click a file and press v, it edits the file in gvim. How can I do that? I want a good solution, and am willing to switch file managers/window managers if need be. This particular shortcut key is very important to my user experience.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a way to auto-mount a couple of NTFS volumes at login (or even earlier if possible), not by editingfstab or running the (currently buggy for Maverick) ntfs-config tool, but by simulating the way that Nautilus mounts volumes when you click or double click on one. The reasons for this are not important(just to make things a little mysterious). So, I checked the output of syslog when I click on an unmounted volume in Nautilus. It seems very useful, but I can't make much out of it. So I need your help I need to make something like a script to do this thing at startup.

I try to configure mouse click interval since a single click is recognized as double click by doing it from KDE mouse configuration in system settings; but my attempt doesn't work even (I set the click interval to 2 sec, but doesn't change anything). What is the best way to do this in slackware?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was transferring data from one computer to my laptop and crash error came up on my laptop...
Error 1:

Error 2:
Openoffice.Org-Brand Crash
Reason: Process/usr/lib/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin was killed by signal (SIGABRT)
What could be the problem? Is it serious issue? I have been having security issues with Windows and are those issues begun once again? I have been under targeted attack since 2005.
My system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.

i have problem with my nautilus and may this sounding silly question.

I couldnt find any relevant threads so I created a new oneI am at my wits end sudden my encryption password is being rejected. It has worked before and it is written down I even tried loading a LiveCD hoping maybe an update screwed it up but even in the LiveCD the password isnt working. This wouldnt be such a big deal if I havent changed all my passwords and stored them in KeePass and havent got a chance to back it up yet

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an encrypted /home partition but would like to set up a guest account for my brother. Obviously, encryption doesn't work so well when you give out the key so what I'd like to do is specify a different, unencrypted location as a home directory for the guest account so he doesn't need access to that partition. Is there a way of doing this?
I've got fedora 10, dual boot with windows, 2 hard drives, 1st is NTFS windows. 2nd is split into a swap, ext3 for the OS, and an encrypted partition for /home.
When I installed Fedora selected the option to encrypt the hard drive. I want to change the passphrase, is there a way to change the passphrase, or do I have to re-install Fedora?
View 3 Replies View Related1.) I am wondering how to enable the lock to an encrypted partition which has been unlocked, using luks? On boot, I am been asked automatically for the pass phrase to unlock my partitions. After doing a back up, I want lock the encrypted partition again, but I don't know the command?! I umounted the partition but after mounting it again, I was not asked for the pass phrase but had access to my data.
2.) How secure is the default fedora version of luks? Is truecrypt better?
1. Fedora 14 has a user friendly disk encryption setup. However, there doesn't seem to be an option to change the encryption parameters during setup. Since I can handle the overhead, I would like to change the encryption algorithm and the key length for the default install.
2. I have created an additional encrypted drive (the entire HD) which claims to have its own encryption functionality (Seagate Constellation 1TB). Does Fedora use the built-in encryption mechanism by default? Is there any way to tell?
3. I can't seem to find any utility to tell me what the actual key size is for different HD's I have encrypted. "cryptsetup --help" seems to print out only the information for the default encrypted O/S which is the default 256 bit.
My problem is whether the -s option work when set to a 2,048 bit key length? Or, does it fall back to a 256 bit key length if it fails to do so? Or, does it automatically use the built-in encryption of the hardware? If the -s option doesn't work with a 2,048 bit key setting, can the kernel be recompiled to do so?
where can I change the single click into a double click (because I'm a windows user (sorry!))? The mouse model does not support this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm newish to the forum, but have been using ubuntu for the past few months.I recently upgraded from eeebuntu (a 9.04 derivative) to 10.04, and found that two finger tapping my touchpad has gone from middle click to right click, (and 3 fingers is now middle instead of right).
From what I've seen, this has been changed since 9.10, but I haven't been able to find a permanent solution yet. Most fixes have been from before and use hal, or other things that don't exist anymore. The one thing I've found does work is using xinput and the command
Code:
xinput set-prop "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" "Synaptics Tap Action" 2, 3, 0, 0, 1, 2, 3
But that has to be run every time I start up, and it occasionally reverts while I'm using the computer. I've tried making a script that runs at startup, but neither adding it to the list of startup programs, or autostart folder has worked, but running the script file manually does work. I'm a bit at wits end with this, it's the only issue I've had with 10.04, and I've spent many many hours trying to get it to work (I've also tried gsynaptics and the newer version whose name escapes me right now). Hopefully there's a permanent fix out there.
when i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.
I was trying to install Fedora 9 on my new laptop that came with Win XP. I have selected the option to wipe out all partition and create a default layout with the Encryption option selected. But that installation got stopped on the middle, therefore I have started the installation again. This time it asked for the encryption password as expected but don't know why, its not accepting my password. I am 100% sure that the password is correct but it is not allowing me to enter into the hard disk partition section.
My question is, how do I remove encryption from my hard disk? I don't need to preserve the data, I just need to use my hard disk again. Is there any boot CD that allow us to format encrypted disks without prompting for a password?
I have currently a file server that runs on Fedora 9, and all other PCs (mostly running Windows XP) access the file server via SAMBA. Everything works perfectly! However, lately a home invasion in my neighborhood got me thinking. If they take my file server, my data is not protected. So, I would like to implement the LUKS partition encryption (/home) which sits on a separate disk. However, I don't quite like the decryption process at boot time. In other words, I would like to wake up the file server (WOL) remotely, and when it's done booting, I would like to log-in using the other PCs and enter the passphrase remotely to decrypt /home. Is this possible using LUKS encryption (i.e., cryptsetup)? If not, what would be another alternative to what I am trying to do using a secure encryption (so that the data is safe from thieves)?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Fedora 13, with emacs 23.1. Now when I edit a .gpg (encrypted) file, emacs doesn't cache the passphrase, so when I save the file emacs demands that I repeat the passphrase twice.Previously, the following line in .emacs made it cache the passphrase:
Code:
(setq epa-file-cache-passphrase-for-symmetric-encryption t) This is supposed to work, according to the documentation [URL], but in Fedora 13 emacs it seems to have stopped working.
I'm planning a fresh F13 install, with separate partitions for /boot, /home, /tmp, /, and swap. All but /boot will be logical volumes, and I'd like to encrypt all but boot. If I encrypt the underlying partitions, is there any reason to also encrypt the logical volumes themselves?
my system will be:
HP dv6-3040us Pavillion laptop
AMD Phenon II
4GB DDR3
I have a computer running Fedora 14 and when I installed it, I chose to encrypt the drive.
I've recently changed the way I have things set up and don't want the encryption any more. From what I've read there is no way to simply and easily remove the encryption, so what I would like to do is input the pass phrase remotely.
so, Is there anyway I can type in the pass phrase remotely, or remove the encryption?
I have been trying to setup IPSEC encryption between two linux boxes. I have a server application which runs on Linux Box A and a client application which runs on Linux Box B. The client sends the data to server. I have captured wireshark logs at both server and client end. In the wireshark logs I can see that the Box B send ESP packets to the Box A.
But the server Application running at Box A is is not able to get any packets. If I turn the policy off at Box B, Box B sends normal UDP data packets to Box A, but still the Server Application running at box A doesn't get any packets.( Expected behavior since policy at Box A enforces that all packets coming from Box B should be encrypted.)
If I turn the policy off at Box A and Box B both, the server application receives the unencrypted data which is also expected behavior. But when the policy is turned on at both the boxes the encrypted packets reach the Box A but are not delivered to the server application. If anyone has faced such issue please help me to debug this issue. I have attached the ifconfig and policy settings at Box A and Box B for your reference.
About a week ago I installed some updates. What they were I don't remember. After I did that my mouse started acting up. Now about half the time when I single click it registers as a double click. Also when I click and drag to select text anywhere it'll randomly do another click screwing up that process.
So far I think the problem is when I press the left mouse button it registers the left click and then when I release, it randomly registers another left click.
The mouse itself works fine if I take it to another PC that's using windows.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 64bit
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0
mouse menu different in 10.10, is there a way to make the mouse single click instead of double click?
