how to compress files by using the right button and selecting something like "Compress to zip". This feature is present in Thunar and most file managers but I can't find how to enable it in Nautilus.

I am mighty annoyed that I have to dive into the file menue to create a new folder.So I googled and found something that supposedly fixes it.:

So I tried that, for starters I only added the line
<toolitem name="Cut" action="Cut"/>
and saved nautilus-navigation-window-ui.xml again. However this has NO effect.
On all the previous versions of Ubuntu there was a button I'd press to change between button navigation like this and text navigation like this but I can't find this button anymore so now all I have is button navigation. Theres no reason they'd get rid of that feature so I'm guessing its in there somewhere, I just can't find it.

Is there a way to get this back? I found you can use CTRL+L or use gconf-editor to switch but I used that button quite a bit and want to find a way to get it back.

But whatever image I try (some PNG or even SVG files) I can't get them to be displayed. It seems there is a very special format, size, type to match the Gnome/GTK+/Nautilus icon requirements...
Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic:

By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.
I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.
i was so happy using the window buttons applet in gnome panel. it was working fine in maximize window , now suddenly i find the close button has vanished i tried to remove and re install, changed theme and all the jugglery within my limits... have absolutely no idea what went wrong, any clue ? to get back the "CLOSE" button ? its funny with just the minimize and restore button visible in maximised mode... its the close button i use most in maximise mode

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a F10 machine set up as a media center (with mythtv...mythdora to be precise) and I love that it's based on fedora since I'm most familiar with it..I would like to map the power button press to a command "pkill X" since sometimes the frontend freezes and running this command kills X (I'm running ratpoison for the speed and simplicity...it just gets the job done and doesn't get in the way).Any help in mapping a single button press to "pkill X" would be greatly appreciated. I also need some help adding this command to the sudo list so the regular "mythtv" user will be able to run it...no password can be entered since the machine has no keyboard. Currently I log in via ssh to get this done but it would be nice to not have to boot up a laptop just to do this.

I'm running SuSe 11.2 32 bit. I noticed today that what ever program, window, or what have you I open there is no close "X" button or resize button in the top right corner.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to install lFedora 10 from a live cd. I already finished the installation process. But when I reboot to finish the post installation information I can't click the forward button to continue because the screen resolution is to low on my LCD. I can't see the forward button to click in the lower right hand corner. I found out if I just hit the enter button I got through the "Welcome" and "License Information" part but when I get to the "Create User" part after I Confirm my password the pressing the enter button doesn't work. And of course I can't see the "Forward" button to click. Is there some way to go in text mode?

Thanks to leigh for the fantastic nvidia and compiz installation tips, and to bbfuller for getting the BroadCom wireless working.I do notice, however, that when I press the F button (KDE) there is about a 20-30 second pause before the window pops up. I see the same thing when I start a terminal window.

The problem that I am having is that the OS will randomly think that I am holding down the left mouse button, which I am clearly not. I only installed the base system (development pack), and did not add any of ther other repositories. I would really like to be able to use Fedora 13, and not just have it sitting there on my HDD, and also use it as a server operating system (because of the configuration tools)
