OpenSUSE Install :: KDE 4.6.0 - Older Packages Available In Update List

May 7, 2011

I was following this thread: Upgrade kde4.6>
But just before I clicked accept after saying switch system packages to kde4 repo (the one in that thread) I noticed loads of the packages were older than those installed. In the list it has installed (available) and lots of them were all highlighted in red, and the installed version numbers were higher than the available, yet I'm running kde 4.6.0.

Fedora :: Finding A List Of Renamed Packages?

Sep 1, 2011

I get annoyed sometimes that from one Fedora release to another, some programs get renamed or put into different packages. Examples:

* Gnome's volume control applet. Used to be provided by gnome-media, now it's moved to control-center. Worse, the command itself was renamed from gnome-volume-control-applet to gnome-sound-applet, so I couldn't even try a `yum provides` search to locate it.

* Gnome's Disk Usage Analyzer tool. Used to be in a package by itself, baobab. Now it's provided by gnome-utils.

Is there a wiki or something where the full list of all renamed/repackaged programs can be found? I'm not a Gnome desktop user, so, while I'm sure all the packages I like from Gnome are just there out-of-the-box for most users, it doesn't help me very much. The volume control applet for example is extremely useful for other desktop environments (and Gnome itself really doesn't have much need for it anyway, since they have their own built into the window shell).

Fedora Hardware :: 13 - Install No Disks Found

May 28, 2010

I've been trying to install Fedora 13 and have been running into an issue where the installer cannot find the single hard drive on the system.

I've been running Fedora 11 successfully since it came out, however, I've tried installing Fedora 12, Fedora 13 (i386 and x86_64), Red Hat 6 Beta, and all cannot see the disk.

Fdisk -l shows no devices

modinfo mptsas on the working (Fedora 11) install shows the following:

On Fedora 13 it shows a version of 3.04.13, not sure if that matters. Also, looking at the console messages I noticed some errors like:

WARNING - Issuing Reset from mpt_config!

Also, there is only ONE HD installed, and even though there's a raid controller in the system, raid is not configured. I've also tried every combination of raid setup in the bios setup and none have made a difference.

Fedora Installation :: Install Software RAID 1 On F11 With Two Disks

Jan 11, 2010

I just bought two 320GB SATA drives and would like to install F11 with software RAID 1 on them. I read an article which explains how to install RAID 1, but it used 3 disks: one for OS and two clones. Do I really need a third disk to install RAID 1 configuration? If 2 disks is enough, then should I select "Clone a drive to create a RAID device" during F11 installation as explained here?

Fedora Installation :: Yum Info Kernel-uname-r Produces "no Matching Packages To List"

Jun 25, 2009

Fedora 11 update released today creates a dependency issue in my x86-64 system: Processing Dependency: kernel-uname-r = 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64 for package: kmod-wl-2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64-5.10.91.9-3.fc11.1.x86_64 # yum info kernel-uname-r produces "no matching packages to list" the yum info pack tells me kmod-wl is: Metapackage which tracks in wl kernel module for newest kernel so it seems important to have it up to date. Fedora Installation :: Editing Fstab / Disks.txt And Mounts.txt After Live CD Install?

Jan 19, 2010

I have installed Fedora 12 i686 Live to a 200 mb partition on an external drive. Before the install I created a 6.7 GB ext3 partition and a 45 GB ext3 partition. The live cd copied the image to a 200 mb partition.

partition 2bce0f9d-53a6-4ec2-b5ad-1a6915c74260 is 45 GB
partition 4683EB23BED2EB34 is 102.6 GB NTFS
partition b7240ff1-0807-42ba-e172-bff5872519ad is 6.7 GB

[code]....

Will creating an entry in fstab sdb6 and sdb8 allow the fedora distrib dvd to install to the external hd? How do I create the entries?
I have a raid0 hd with windows xp pro. When i try to shrink the partition using anaconda, I get a disk error and the comper locks up. I have to shut off the ups to reboot.

Fedora Hardware :: Install Freezes After Disks Detections On Mobo Gigabyte G41M-ES2h

Mar 9, 2010

When I tried to run the fedora 12 disk setup (iso), instead of having the nice fedora logo I quickly get tetxt lines showing all my sata disks and USB card readers properly detected though... and the instal freezes. This PC is a mobo Gigabyte G41m-ES2h with 2x500 GB WD disk... Very basic config with a wolfdale 2.93 GHz + 4 GB DDR2 ram... I don't quite understand as Ubuntu 9.1 setup does the same thing whereas "superGRUB" launched from a CD detects my disks & partitions normally.

This fedora 12 disk is ok (fedora 12 installed on 2 other laptops in dual boot) and on the first satat disk there is a Vista. Really don't get it but isolinux has had sometimes issues with sata disks on some of my previous PCs.

General :: List The Removed Rpm Packages Used By Rpm -e ?

Jun 23, 2011

OS: RHEL / CentOS If I use "yum" to add / erase packages, OS will log the info to file /var/log/yum.log.

But if use "rpm -e" to remove a package, there is no related log file to show which rpm package got earsed. I have to run "rpm -qa > /tmp/$TIME", and then diff the /tmp/$TIME file to get the difference.

Is there is command to show the erased packages (erased by using rpm -e)?

Ubuntu :: Get A List Of Packages That I Installed Deliberately?

In MacPorts, the ports I would be looking for are the requested ports. They have a system so that when you install a port, that port is marked as requested. Also if you want to keep a port that was installed as a dependency, you can set it to be requested manually. Does the Debian system have the same functionality? It seems that there are some utilities that get that done..
