General :: How To Make Emacs Stop Trapping Scroll Lock

Aug 29, 2011

I am using a Linux machine with a KVM switch at work, and I commonly use emacs while switching between that machine and my other machine. I typically use the keyboard shortcut to swap between machines on the KVM, which is the key sequence: Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Up or Down. If I have an emacs window on top on Linux and hit these buttons, it will trap the Scroll Lock key presses and trigger a system beep from the CPU speaker. The KVM still switches, but on occasion, after the switch, it will register Scroll Lock as being stuck pressed, and so I'll be treated to an earful of system beeping. I have to switch back to the computer to get it to stop.Is there something I can put in the .emacs file that will prevent the program from beeping when I hit Scroll Lock with the window on top?

Ubuntu :: Load Live CD / Caps Lock/scroll Lock Flash?

May 27, 2010

I have just burned the latest CD using infraRecorder, as per the instructions on this site, however when I boot from this CD, it spends about 5 minutes moving the red balls across my screen, then all of the sudden it just freezes, and my caps and scroll lock lights start to blink. I've had a look in the forums already but there's nothing about this happening on Boot of the live CD.

Fedora :: Emacs - Error "make: *** No Targets Specified And No Makefile Found. Stop"

Aug 5, 2010

I recently switched over to Fedora 13 but I'm having a bit of trouble. I've tried writing simple programs in Emacs and Eclipse but neither will compile. It always gives the error, "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop."

I've looked around at a couple of forums, but people with the same issue can't install software, but I can. I got Fedora from the Fedora website so I know its complete, but I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm just missing a file or something.

Ubuntu :: How To Scroll Down Other Window In Emacs

I like emacs very much, and especially like using C-M-v and C-M-S-V to scroll other window up and down. It is cool, especially when I am coding and referring documents. The problem is, using C-M-v to scroll down is OK in both terminal and X,but using C-M-S-V to scroll up just works well in X, if I use it in terminal, it behaves scrolling down too.

Ubuntu :: Shift+Alt Triggers Scroll Lock

Aug 4, 2010

I`ve recently bought a Genius Slim Star 220 USB keyboard. The problem is that when I switch between keyboard layouts with shift+alt this also triggers scroll lock. I`m running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 kernel 2.6.32-24 EDIT As I`ve just found out it`s not shift+alt that trigger scroll lock, but the fact of changing the keyboard layout. I`ve tried several other hotkey combinations as well as changing layout with the taskbar applet. All the same.

Ubuntu :: Cap And Scroll Lock LED Blink Endless During Logout?

Jun 3, 2010

Cannot log out of Lucid Lynx. Cap and Scroll lock LED blink and nothing defeats them. I have to shutdown the computer by switching it off.

I removed xorg.conf (which I had installed for screen resolution). After removing it, the shutdown worked well. No more blinking and hangup during shutdown.
But I lost the screen resolution.

I need the screen resolution. how to solve the blink issue. Does it have to do with something in the xorg.conf file causing this?

Can anyone at least clue me in as to what causes the "kernel panic"?

CentOS 5 :: Kernel OOPS - Scroll Lock Keys Start Blinking

Apr 25, 2009

I'm trying to install CentOS 5.3 on a VMWare virtual machine running VMWareServe 1.0.4 build-56528. I have 8 virtual machines that are running some older kernel (RH FedoraCore 4) without any trouble. My system has an AMD Athlon XP 1800 processor and has 1G RAM. Every time during the installation after choosing skip media (I have already checked that the media is OK) I get a kernel OOPS and the capslock and scroll lock keys start blinking. My first guess was that this could be a ACPI issue, so I have disabled ACPI using the acpi=no boot option. The problem persists with the acpi=no option set. During the boot install process, I have seen some messages like this one

ACPI Exception (processor_core-xxxx): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is not present [xxxxxxxxx]

I have searched for this issue and found a RedHat Bug 435653 that reports this same issue, but this report is somewhat old, so i think that this issue as already been fixed and reflected to upstream. I have tried also to install using the text mode installation, but the same problem. To further isolate this problem, i have avoided the hardware detection and this was the first time that i have overcome the first screen (test media screen), as i have choosen with the success the language and the keybord layout. After choosing the beyboard layout, the kernel OOPS shows up again. On the screen 4 (debug screen) I don't see any relevant messages.

Ubuntu :: Scroll Click Stop Working / What To Do?

Jul 4, 2010

Until yesterday, I used the scroll key, middle click, to open/close tabs at Firfox and chrome, today for some reason is not working any more.

I can roll pages up and down, but at Firefox and chrome i cant open/close the tabs with scroll/middle click.

I checked online and the only fix I found was the safe mode solution, which I don't know how to do this on Ubuntu.

I reinstall Firefox and chrome but same thing happens.

I think its something at about:config. I mess around with it, tried all combination, seems nothing happened there for me, no reaction at any changes.

Kinda noob at Linux so if you could explain any solution like talking to 5yo kid would be appreciated.

Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox fully updated.
