I've just installed ubuntu 9.04 (had the disc from before) and I'm upgrading to 9.10 of course but I have a question. How do I check that I have the latest drivers installed for everything in my laptop? I'm the kind of person that has that nagging feeling in the back of my head telling me that everything isn't installed perfectly and I need to install my drivers properly (or at least ask).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'd love to know how to check the original configuration of a self-installed package? For example, I would like to install the package XXXXX. I did:
./configure
make
make install
After the installation, I would like to know what the configuration I used for XXXXX's installation. Maybe some dependencies (for example, A,B,C...) were not found so that XXXXX was installed without depending on A,B,C.... However, now, I would like XXXXX depend on A,B,C... How to check whether the current installed XXXXX's original configuration?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes you get more than you ask for and in this case, I did: I had no idea (had the computer for a few years now) that I was running a dual core 64 bit machine. The silly thing is that I have 32bit Fedora 11 on it, 32 bit versions of all my installed software...etc., etc. Am I able at this point to salvage anything or is it best to just back up the home directory and then do a reinstall?

I am trying to install Wheezy testing i386 using netinstall .iso disk.
After the disk partition stage and while in the 'Install the base system' stage I get the message;
Debootstrap error:
The following error occurred: The bzcat is not available on the system Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 the details.
I have over the past couple of months downloaded three daily builds of testing and the md5sums are good on all of them yet I have the same problem with each disk.
I've just upgraded to Natty. During the upgrade no errors showed. However, when I now boot ubuntu (either recovery mode or normal), the boot process hangs at:
'checking battery state'
I searched for similair problems in this forum, but the solutions in other posts(sudo apt-get update & upgrade etc.) did not help. I'm not sure if it is related or important, but when it hangs, it also shows something like:
'starting automatic crash reporter [fail]'
'not starting jetty'
'saned disabled'
(I can't copy there of course, so it is probably not exactly like this, or in this order...) What can I do to get my ubuntu boot again?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using the default CVS available in Fedora 9. I initiated the CVS server by
cvs -d /usr/local/cvsproj init
To check-in and check-out the following exports commands are used
export CVS_RSH=ssh
export CVSROOT=:ext:swathi@SERVER:/usr/local/cvsproj
I shall explain problem by taking an example. A project was checked in long before (for example the checkin date is 25 Feb 2010). And today (i.e. 21 June 2011) I checked out the project from the repository. After checkout, the date of the project in the repository is changed from 25 Feb 2010 to 21 June 2011. This date is set to all the subfolders in that project. But the files in the project retains the checking date i.e. 25 Feb 2010. Why the check-in dates are getting updated/changed to the system time after doing check-out.
I'd like to know if there is a script that can check and see if an application has been closed (I don't know a great deal about bash programming).I'm running an organ programme with this script.

Running solo Ubuntu 9.1 on current AMD-965/MSI_gd70 desktop. Recently I upgraded hardware ( new ram/2nd hdd/temp-probe ) on this kit. All function appeared nominal and all hardware appeared in BIOS. After adding a new line in /etc/fstab to conjure-up my new 650-G sata I rebooted. I can access **nothing** on my system .except FireFox and THAT because I have a FF_icon on my desktop. The system boots, and std Gnome GUI appears, but excepting *LOGIN* none of the tool-bars have any function whatsoever.I cannot reach the command-line.

How does one access a Virtual Box installed Fedora system? I'd like to be able to ssh into this system (locally) but I've no idea how to do this. There is an ip address of 10.0.2.15. Ping doesn't work (ping 10.0.2.15). Should I just go ahead and assign a 192. address to this box before I go any further? It would seem that at this point the system isn't actually a part of my local network and I don't imagine it would be unless it has a 192 address.
