Problem is to boot fedora. On my system I have 3 HDD
on 1st - 2 partition (1)XP (2) free space for data NTFS
on 2d - 1 partition (1) Win Serv 2003
on 3d - 3 partitions (1) free space for data NTFS (2) /boot (3) Fedora 12
After installation boot manager doesn't see fedora! Only give me option to run XP or 2003. Another problem Fedora 12 Live CD doesn't work for my graphic. I see some quick text after lanch and then black screen but still understand that there going some processes under that black screen, than it looks like stop and w8 for my decision which I cant make cause don't see what is there going on. So there no chance to get under linux after instalation and no chance using live CD to install GRUB and I need some how edit boot.ini in windows to make it appear fedora in boot menu.
My current boot.ini looks like that:
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition" /noexecute=optout /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
how should looks 3d line?
Code:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(3)Linux="Fedora 12" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
like this?

I turned my home PC running Ubuntu 10.04 into a server, and so i am so lost, after reading like a 10-20 different guides and/or official docs, I am totally lost.
All I wanted was to create a custom 404 error page...i read about how people edited .htaccess files to customize error pages, i tried and failed also, editing apache2.conf, I got lost and i dont wanna mess up everything and also, how you're supposed to not touch either of those as its not how it should be done and instead you need to edit httpd.conf and i did and FAILED! again...
Also how do I make it so that I can make subdomain(s) on my site? and wth is a name server and where do I get one?

Anyone succeed with f11 install on netbook (/ on SDHC, /boot on primary SSD/HDD drive)?
My netbook (AAO) works just fine with f11 Live-on-usb-sick (created with live-usb-creator), but fails to boot fedora from SDHC.

I have sevral older machines that cannot boot from usb. Until now I have installed fedora using the provided boot.iso on a CD and an external USB dvd drive with the full install DVD.
With Fedora 11, this fails. It gets as far as "finding storage devices" and fails, telling me that an unhandled exception has occured. It offers to save the details, but freezes looking for a suitable location. I have no such problems with the same DVD/external rw drive on systems that can boot directly from usb.

I started preupgrade with a 200M /boot partition 50% full. According to the instructions, it is supposed to give me the option of downloading the stage2 installer later. It doesn't, and crashes horribly (see below).This worked from FC12 to FC13. Reparititioning will take a day because the FC12 kindly made the root file system LVM and nothing will resize it. (I tried this with FC11 -> 12 and ended up losing everything and rebuilding the 1T disk).
Code:
$ sudo preupgrade
Loaded plugins: blacklist, whiteout

Finally updates are broken - I've been able to use my upgraded F12 system for some time, faithfully keeping up with f10, then f11. Just yesterday it finally broke:
Test Transaction Errors: installing package kernel-2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686 needs 10MB on the /boot filesystem
It would appear that the most recent kernel update has broken the 10MB barrier initially set by the version I first installed (for the boot partition). Needless to say, I have quite an investment in this machine, and of course no time to back it all up and do a fresh F12 install. I am hoping someone out there can give me a bulletproof way to steal some space and expand the boot partition...

I used to be a pro at editing Grub's menu.lst file so I could have my menu look clean, simple, and easy to read. Now that I have set up 10.04 (Working beautifully now after a couple setbacks) the menu.lst file is no longer where it used to be (/boot/grub/menu.lst)
How do I edit my boot menu now?

I've had Fedora 14 installed for some time now, but decided I needed dual boot for some things I have that are built only for windows and need usb support.
I installed windows to hd0,4 but when I edit a windows 7 entry in grub, as:
title windoze 7
root (hd0,4)
then boot it, it doesn't find it.
It was actually the 4th partition, so hd0,3 not hd0,4 I apparently also needed to put in "Chainloader +1" too... what ever that does...

I'm running into this issue after installing Fedora Core 11 off DVD. Anaconda install the first part of the installation, then after reboot it goes into run level 3 (I think, where you have to login as root) I noticed that it said xserver failed to load before it actually boots Anaconda.
Maybe I should pull a graphic's card? I have logged in as root after the base install and did a lspci, and you can see the two Nvidia Quadro FX1700's and you can tell it is an intel board with the Intel Corp 6311ESB/6321ESB PCI Express ports. Also you can navigate through the linux directories via ls \. I tried YUM to find/install the graphics drivers but it says something about metadata not being configured. I checked the IP address with ifconfig and had to manually assign an ip.

I am a new Ubuntu user, and I am attempting to set Windows 7 64 bit as my default OS in the boot loader instead of Ubuntu 10.10. I have entered the command gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst into terminal, and the menu.lst file does open. However, this file appears to be completely blank, which does not seem to make sense and is preventing me from changing the boot order.

I have an old laptop that I installed EasyPeasy Lucid on. I have never used Grub2 as my other Ubuntu installs still use Grub Legacy. I have studied all the tutorials which instruct that the grub.cfg file should not be edited directly.This old laptop has one of the dreaded Intel graphics chips for which the kernel automatically loads the i915 module. Of course (like a multitude of others with Intel graphics and Lucid) I booted into a black screen but knew the workaround was to enable mode setting through grubI used the
Code:
i915.modeset=1
and added it to /etc/default/grub line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, just after "quite splash", just

My old computer started randomly rebooting so I went out yesterday and bought a new one. It's a standard Intel 64 architecture with 2gb ram etc.The old computer was running Lenny however I'm happy to upgrade, so I just went to the main Debian download site and downloaded:debian-6.0.1a-ia64.netinst.iso (this didn't work, apparently ia64 is for itanium and my machine is definitely not that), so I downloaded: debian-6.0.1a-amd64-netinst.iso, burnt the CD and ran the install. First time through I had a power failure.
Second time through (a complete fresh start - new partition and everything) it went all the way through to completion and reboot.Clicked 'Continue' to reboot and the machine reset as it would normally and the Grub loader started okay, prompted for the "Debian amd64" standard boot image, selected that and the first 6 lines appeared normal, then the messages wizzed by so fast that only superman could read them. Then they stop - here is some of the content...
[3.816673] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to killl init!
Call trace:
get_empty_filp
panic
[code].....
Running it again I get similar stack stuff but it's a different place: [3.541816], [3.427502] And sometimes if I wait for a minute or two it will continue on further but appear to crash again. Hardware details (everything is onboard - no added cards):
G41M-S3
Intel G41 + ICH7 chipsets
CPU: LGA 775 for Intel Core 2 Extreme
[code]......
Is the amd64 the wrong image? Should I try i386? Is it a blip and I should just rerun the entire install again?

I have a 2TB file-system and when the machine reboots it fails the fsck, halts and goes into maintenance mode.Stats: I have have RHEL 5, 2.6.18 kernel, the file-system is an ext3. The file-system is on an EMC AX4 connected with fiber channel HBA.So far my reading tells me this should work because under 2.6 4TB is OK. Any ideas why this fails?If I take it out of the fstab file and mount it manually the boot is OK and the file-system behaves well. I can change the fsck check option in the fstab to 0 but I don't think I should have too. Everything I read says that 2TB ext3 file-systems are OK.

I have three hard disks in my PC , hda is used for /, /home, /boot and swap. Everything seems to setup fine here I then have partitions sdb1 and sdc1. On the edit partion options for these hard drives I can set the mount point. I have never seen this before with the other distros I have used and usually have to mess around with fstab after install to mount these disks, so was pleased to see this option.
Under my previous install (Debian, which I didn't use for long) I had these drives mounted under /media/store1 and /media/store2. This is reflected in the "Edit Parition: /dev/s***" options where the "Original File System Label" is shown as store1 and store2 for each disk

I am trying to upgrade RH9 to F10. I have downloaded dvd iso image i386. The SHA1 integrity check passes. The installer fails media check due to "errors". I did an independent verification of the DVD and zero errors found. Download was from Fedora's own torrent, so files should be verified anyway. If I bypass the media check I get the message : Running anaconda 11.4.1.62 the Fedora system installer - please wait.....

I'm trying to install ubuntu on a laptop (Acer Aspire 6530), and duel boot with windows vista. However, when starting up the computer with the CD in the drive, the installer fails to load, showing only a picture at the bottom of the screen showing a square and a circle with a person in it... This persists for as long as I have cared to wait (hours) and pressing keys at first results in nothing, then after sufficient key presses just produces beeps...
Anyone know what's wrong there?

I have installed Fedora 12 i686 Live to a 200 mb partition on an external drive. Before the install I created a 6.7 GB ext3 partition and a 45 GB ext3 partition. The live cd copied the image to a 200 mb partition.
partition 2bce0f9d-53a6-4ec2-b5ad-1a6915c74260 is 45 GB
partition 4683EB23BED2EB34 is 102.6 GB NTFS
partition b7240ff1-0807-42ba-e172-bff5872519ad is 6.7 GB

Will creating an entry in fstab sdb6 and sdb8 allow the fedora distrib dvd to install to the external hd? How do I create the entries?
I have a raid0 hd with windows xp pro. When i try to shrink the partition using anaconda, I get a disk error and the comper locks up. I have to shut off the ups to reboot.

on my Fedora box, updates have caused some major issues. Since kernel 2.6.30, the boot sequence goes through my BIOS boot, then to Grub, and then just flashes colours repeatedly. Red, green, white, black, blue, over and over again. This happens for 2.6.32 also. I have to boot into 2.6.27 in order for it to work properly.
I'm using a Dell XPS M1730 with (I believe) an NVidiao 9800M GTX graphics card. I'm using the "Gallium 0.4 on NV84" graphics adapter.

Installed v9 a couple of weeks back and have been causally mucking about with it since. I managed to get XP and ubuntu running as a dual boot system (which was an achievement ).
Anyway, i've upgraded to 10.04 - and already loving it. However... my XP o/s no longer boots. It use to prior to the upgrade. Now, when the XP o/s is selected from GRUB2, I just get a series of bleeps and a flashing _.
Now, I am a complete novice. I actually have no idea where to even begin trouble shooting GRUB2 (and i'm assuming its a problem with GRUB).

Dual boot Windows XP SP3 & Ubuntu 9.10 on a single hdd, w/2 partitions. Booted to Ubuntu and upgraded online. XP boots fine, but Ubuntu, not so much; a msg about /dev not found, followed by a shell login prompt. I suspect a grub problem, but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Since I can at least boot XP, I do not want to do anything that would screw that up and leave me with no bootable OS. I did the "upgrade" shortly after 10.04 was released. Is there a way to reliably fix this w/o possibly screwing up my ability to boot XP, the only OS I can boot? I have no Ubuntu 10.04 disk, as I used their upgrade online option.
