I used to install the fedora 12 is no problem at all. And last time I see fedora 13 come out, then I want to try it. I also try my different destop, it also coming the same thing. don't know what happen? Could any one answer my question. This is my first time here.

Trying to install Fedora 12 using the 6 CDs. Trying to install on an older x86 box.Problem is that when detecting my hard drive, Fedora 12 recognizes it as a sda hard drive instead of hda hard drive. I have no SCSI connected to my computer what so ever. It's an old fashion PATA Western Digital hard drive.If I proceed with the install, Fedora 12 only installs 200MB of the OS from the first CD only. No options for additional software or anything.

mini hp 2133 does not have a DVD or CD ROM. So i'm installing this form a USB.
I've tried installing Ubuntu from the installation disk, flash drive, and using windows installer. The drive and disk said I didn't have enough memory open to install (I have 160GB open)upon looking around in the demo, i noticed that it couldn't find my hard drive as it wasn't on the drive explorer. So i searched for answers and found a few possible ones but i wanted to find someone with my exact problem--Couldn't find any. So then I came upon the Windows Installer and Tried it out. All went well until i had to reboot, it said it couldn't find the installation.iso (which is indeed on my computer) and that i should run "Chkdsk /r" and i did. Nothing changed. I still believe that Ubuntu can't see my hard drive when windows can, why is this? Is there a way to fix it? EDIT: How could I forget to mention I'm on Windows 7?

I have a Desktop system using the Intel DG45ID motherboard with integrated graphics. I can't install from the 9.10 LiveCD. It can't find the Hard drive which is on the chipset's SATA controller.However, I can install 9.04 just fine. I can even do the 9.10 upgrade without a problem.Does anyone know if this bug has been reported. I'm hoping 10.4 has this fixed. I'll test the beta to see

I finally got it to install windows xp, but i really only want to put ubuntu on it (no need for windows on a net book)
When I start the Live CD I can see my harddrive and access it. But when I start the setup, it cant find the harddrive and I can not choose it. Ive tryed more than one cd's and another distro (built on Ubuntu). The hard drive works fine, Ive got Windows 7 already on it (help me change back to linux). I know the computer works fine as I once used another computer to install ubuntu on the harddrive and then moved the harddrive to my computer.

I am installing on an EVGA X58 motherboard with Intel ICH10 and I have AHCI enabled. Does Ubuntu support AHCI? Do I need drivers to install?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe Fedora installer won't display my two SATA hard drives. I've tried both the x86_64 live CD and DVD. On the live CD, fdisk -l displayed nothing. However, if I click "Specialized Storage Devices" a devices shows up as "BIOS RAID set (stripe)" with a capacity equal to both my hard drives. I don't even have RAID enabled in BIOS - it is set to AHCI. Other os installers display the hard drive correctly.

I've been trying to get Fedora 11 (x86_64, netinst) installed on my machine, but am having trouble with the hard drive selection and partitioning. This machine has 2 x 320GB hard drives. One for Windows, and one for Linux of course.
When I first tried the install, both hard drives were attached to the computer. I was expecting to see the drives seperately so that I could partition and install on only one of the drives, but device mapper kicked in and showed me a single 640GB long partition. Not very helpful in my case.
I decided to simply unplug the Windows drive so that fedora didn't see the two identical drives and so would not try to map them. However, with only the linux drive plugged in, the installer doesn't see it. There are no hard drives to select from in the installer.
As a test, I plugged in the windows drive solely and unplugged the linux drive, and low-and-behold, fedora sees the windows drive. This is getting slightly confusing at this point as both the hard drives are identical. I can't see why the installer would recognise one but not the other. Yet it recognises the extra 320GB of hard drive space if both drives are plugged in and device mapper tries to raid them. I tried the debian installer to see if it had the same problem, but it was able to see and install on this drive. I would have tried OpenSUSE as well but this computer doesn't have a DVD drive.
I haven't tried a "nodmraid" boot option yet, so I am going to try that tonight, but I'm interested to hear what the community thinks of this problem.

I've also had a 640GB plugged in that was detected fine (probably because dm didn't try to raid it being the odd hdd out) but has been removed while I'm troubleshooting the fedora install.
I cannot install F11/12 into Sata hard disk with AMD SB700 neither full installation image or live image in USB drive. It cannot find the hard disk in my machine. But all the things are working fine with F10 installation. Does anyone have the same issue

hda has Debian Lenny installed (with swap) and is to remain.
hdb1 has a linux distro on it.
hdb2 is a data partition and is to remain.
No other partitions on hdb.
HDD is data only (not really relevant but mentioned for completeness)
The system boots via Grub from MBR on hda.
I'm trying to install F10-i686-KDE-LiveCD on hdb1 but F10 won't allow it without modifying the partition tables which will, of course, wipe my data on hdb2. hdb seems to be a happy disk; e2fsck shows it clean and both partitions open properly in Konqueror within the LliveCD.
I just bought a brand new hard drive, installed fedora with no errors. However when I try to click on the hard drive i get this errorunable to mount physical volume, not a mountable file system, ( I only have 1 hard drive and fedora boots up fine so its got to be working)I installed hardware browser and no hard drives come up

What I would like to do is:- install Open Suse on the same drive, sharing the same swap, boot section but splitting or resizing the home partition, can this be done? I installed Fedora by booting up from a disc, plugging in my usb hard drive and then installing to that. Would I follow the same procedure for my 2nd installation, I think so but am open to correction. My laptop bios supports booting from disc and I have some 204 gig of free home space.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am upgrading my old 40G hard drive to a new 160G one and want to know the best way to set it for use with my system. I currently have a Windows partition which I want to keep & reinstate onto the new drive. Then I want to have another 3 partitions for different distros.
What should I do as a first step when I put the drive in boot off a live CD. I am assuming that I will need to do. If I do a, # grub-install, will this then format the MBR and then create a small partition for /boot. Following that, do I just restore the Windows partition immediately after the /boot partition, and then create new partitions for the distros accordingly.
I would also like to create a seperate swap partition and then install F10. Is there an option in Anaconda to not use LVM (can't remember).
I have this laptop that I just reformatted in hopes of doing a dual boot between XP and FC4. It is an Acer Aspire 5315-2153 (the Wal-Mart special). I reformatted the drive; the Windows partition is in NTFS and then I have a 10GB partition in FAT32 for Linux. When I try to install FC4, the disk boots into the installer, then it tells me that it does not recognize any hard drives (the disk in this laptop is a Hitachi HTS541680J9SA00). It asks me if I want to load any drivers, and I tried a few and still no success. Any way, after it goes through that, it tries to start anaconda and after that launches it goes to a black screen and nothing happens. So, did I do anything wrong in the Windows install that won't allow the disk to be found? The XP disk only allows a format in NTFS, otherwise I would have done FAT32 on the whole drive. Second, is the anaconda problem something related to the HDD issue, or does anyone think that it may be a separate issue?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm reasonably noob to Linux but now seriously confused Installing F11 onto a Dell Precision 490, 4GB RAM and 250GB WD2500YS. I get through to drive partitioning and there is no drive listed. Especially odd as the drive is running F10 quite happily. Reconnect a Seagate Barracuda 500GB and restart, this is seen and is the only drive listed even though it is SATA1 not SATA0. Boot the F10 installation DVD and that recognises both drives! I have tried both AHCI and ATA modes with the same results. Can anyone point me in the right direction or do I go out and get another Seagate drive, no I can't use the existing one.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI went through the Fedora 11 DVD setup process up to the partition screen, which does show my external SATA drive correct as; /dev/sda when connected by eSATA, but it shows the internal drive which is a standard IDE, as; /dev/sdf , when it should be as; sdb, why ? I did run that fdisk -l in a terminal from one of my other installed Linux, and it did show drives as correct, ( sda, sdb ). I think this may be a issue related to the digital media card reader built into this 2006 Gateway desktop computer being detected as drives like Windows does and assigns drive letters, or is this some bug in Fedora 11 ?

Can I simply move my hard drive to the new computers? I don't have to reinstall do I? Would I have to use a new kernel?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have purchased HP Pavilion e9280jp/CT which has two 1.5TB (SATA 7200rpm) hard drives. But during installation Fedora 11 and 12 (beta) did not detect my second hard drive. It only showed one hard drive in the list. I used the Fedora Live CD and still it only showed one hard disk.
Then , I partitions my first hard disk as follows:
[1TB - Windows (Primary) ][ 100Gb - Linux partion ][ Factory recovery Image] and installed Fedora 12 , and now giving me Grub errors. How can I force Fedora installer to detect my second hard disk?
I just installed Fedora 12 and grub is not working for me. I have 2 physical drives, and installed Fedora on sdb (win xp is on sda). I picked the option that the computer booted from sdb when I installed. I then went and switched the boot order in the bios so that the computer would boot from sdb. Now Fedora boots fine, but when I try to boot into windows I just get a blinking cursor. I tried booting to windows manually (via picking that drive from the bios options) and that works fine.
I tried to edit grub.conf, but wasn't sure how to address the appropriate hard drive. How do I know what to fill in? The linux drive is (hd0,0), and grub tried to make windows (hd1,0). How do I know what to put in (hdx,y) for the windows partition? Grub tells me I have a /boot partition so everything is relative to that.If I'm way off base, please let me know. Is there a way I can just re-run grub so that it looks for everything anew?
