On Fedora 14 KDE 64 there is no show desktop widget enabled by default, listed as available widgets, or listed in get hot new stuff as being available for download. How can I enable this basic functionality?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running KDE on Fedora 13 and was trying to alter some display settings so that the windows wouldn't maximize when dragged to the edge of the screen. I did that, but at one point "Kwin" crashed, and now there's some odd things happening.
1. I get the "drag me" palm when I'm mousing over the desktop and if I click, I can drag the background around as if it were a window.
2. My "maximize" "minimize" and "close" buttons don't work.
3. It appears nothing in the titlebar of windows works: can't drag them, can't shade or do anything "clickable" -- close, min, max, nothing works.
I tried returning the settings to their original state but it didn't help.I tried restarting the computer too, and that didn't help. I'm guessing something crashed and a setting got hard set that shouldn't be. I'm also guessing that if I rename a .kde/something folder it will reset to defaults. What .kde folder should I play with?
I'm trying to write a program which would get information from a webpage and display the information on my desktop sort of like a widget. I kind of remember there being something like this already made, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's calledDoes anyone know?

My question: Do any of the desktop widget systems out there support fixed, transparent overlay of the screen? My idea was something like this: I want, for example, my desktop clock widget not to be stuck in some dock taking up screen space; but instead, it would overlay the screen in one corner, with its background transparent. That way I could always see it, but it wouldn't gobble up screen space in a separate menu bar.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to natty last night, and everything is working fine except for the network manager. I can enable and configure the wireless card via bash, but the network manager widget will not manage the wireless card.
When I first boot up, the "Enable wireless" check box is greyed out. After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Check, uncheck, Check, uncheck.. "Slaps face repeatedly."

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running F 13 with Gnome and Compiz-fusion on my laptop. I've disabled Show Desktop in the Compiz settings. I've checked with the Configuration Editor, and that shows it to be disabled. However, every, single time my mouse slips up to the top left corner, it activates. Not only that, when it does it, all of my screenlets Go Away, and the only way to get them back is to restart them. how to tell Compiz that I Really Mean It when I say that I don't want it to show the desktop?

When I try to enable it, my screen flickers then returns simply "unable to enable effects".I don't know where to go from here, I tried to google this but the 15 billions hits made me weep.One link seemed to provide some hope but after following the instructions, things went totally wrong and screwed up my X server; this could be because at first I didn't realise but a default install of F11 puts the PAE kernel on.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used the rpmfusion nvidia drivers for my Fedora installation up until a day ago when all of sudden my display turned black after an update. Also, I am using a sony laptop with Nvidia GT230M (with proprietary drivers there are some huge problems like not detecting display, i had to use custom edid file to get it working).After fresh install, things just worked and everything is fine. But the only problem is it is not letting me enable Desktop Effects. I am very much used to Scale to switch my windows and I am kinda missing that functionality. This brings to my question, which driver is being used with my installation now?

I just installed Fedora 11, and am trying to install my video card drivers. I have an Nvidia geforce gtx 260m. So far I have installed both the kmod-nvidia and akmod-nvidia packages, and I still cannot enable desktop effects. After i installed the akmod package, I sometimes see the nvidia logo for a split second when I log out, but my drivers are still not correctly installed.

(As a solution to not being able login after checking the box I found that deleting kwinrc in .kde/share/config/ should help and it worked, so this is not a problem).

The problem is that if I logon from computer 1 and open some programs, I don't see these programs when I logon from computer 2.I logon with the same user, so I find this strange.
