trying to understand the two underlined sentences below I got to ask Step by step. I created a new group called usb. I inserted a usb printer and scanner. I tried to find the file usbfs and there is where get stuck already. I only can find a folder with that name. The sentence (3 -) makes almost no sense to me.
a) modify file /etc/fstab clear open terminal, go to etc, su gedit fstab
b) inserting a line yes I understand that!
c) the right path and the number corresponding the "usb" group :
none /sys/bus/usb/drivers usbfs devgid=503,devmode=664 0 0
2 - locate file usbfs: in my case is /sys/bus/usb/drivers (I suggest to find the file with a usb device inserted;
3 - modify file /etc/fstab inserting a line containing the right path and the number corresponding the "usb" group :
none /sys/bus/usb/drivers usbfs devgid=503,devmode=664 0 0

I followed this tutorial [URL] to enable my TRIM support and now my fstab looks like this:
Quote:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
# devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
[Code].....
but when I follow the second half of the tutorial http://lightrush.ndoytchev.com/rando...bledandworking to check and make sure it's working I don't get all zeros like I'm supposed. I tried waiting a while like I saw in another tutorial as well and check it again.. Still random numbers and no zeros.

first, sorry for my bad english, I am german I have a problem enabling IOMMU on my MSI 970A-G45 mainboard. I need the IOMMU support for PCI passthrough in KVM ( I need my DVB pci cards in the virtual machine).
I have installed Ubuntu server 11.04 and enabled IOMMU in bios. The first strange thing is, that when iommu is enabled in the bios i cant access network or USB devices in ubuntu. Only when its disabled in bios.
Well, i tried the tutorial from here: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/How_to...th_VT-d_in_KVM and compiled a new kernel with "Support for DMA Remapping Devices", "Enable DMA Remapping Devices" and "PCI Stub driver" enabled and installed it (based on description in wiki)

I think I have finally arrived at an insolvable equation:
Chromium v.7 + Ubuntu 10.04 + Sun Java 6 + Webcam + Facebook + Flash 10 = non-functional
All of those items listed above are potential points of failure in this situation, and any help narrowing them down would be fantastic. I am simply trying to enable webcame support directly through Facebooks website.
Forum searches and the usual googling turn up few posts related to this specific equation. Two of the major suggestions include:
1) Installing the Sun (I refuse to say oracle sob)-provided Java implementation instead of the OpenJDK normally installed in Ubuntu. And yes, after installing it, I did update all my default supports to use the sun commands over the openjdk.
2) Somehow enabling Facebook as a permitted site to access my webcam using Flash settings.
I have not been able to explore option 2 because I cannot find a way to adjust the Flash settings in chromium 7.

I have tried many ways to enable vdpau support in my machine but for no avail. A member here helped me very much but I couldn't manage to succeed. My system has Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, Nvidia 8500GT 512mb, Intel Core 2 duo. I have installed Nvidia driver version 195 currently available from their site. I tried compiling mplayer with vdpau support from various tutorials thread here around in Ubuntu forums.
Is there anyone in this forum with Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit with the same other system requirements as mine who have successfully managed to make the VDPAU work?

I had the elrepo kmod-r8168 driver running smooth for a while on my development box.
Yesterday, I did a clean install on it and when I tried to install the latest kmod-r8168 rpm, it failed to enable the networking support:
# yum --enablerepo=elrepo install kmod-r8168
The install performed all proper steps to disable the 8169 driver, I double checked to be sure. This is not a connectivity issue. If I remove the kmod-r8168 rpm, reboot the server and run the ifconfig eth0 up to activate the interface, everything works as expected. I use the latest kernel (2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 x86_64).
First, I performed a clean install, activated the eth0 and did a yum update, then installed the kmod-r8168 with yum. Then, I reinstalled the OS again, activated the eth0 and installed the kmod-r8168 on a 5.5 CD based kernel, same fail results. The only hiccup is: every time I start the box, I have to activate the eth0 interface (with default CentOS 8169 driver):
# ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.3
# ping -c 3 192.168.1.1 (no packets lost)
# ifconfig eth0 up
Once I do this, I have network connectivity.

I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

I'm looking to dual-boot Windows 7 and Debian 6 upon its release on my sister's laptop. I want to share a partition between the two of them so that /home points to this directory and the Windows equivalent also points to it (C:Users).
Anyway, I've heard good and bad things about the NTFSMount driver (I think it's NTFS-3G now) and the NTFSprogs project and so I am not so certain what I should believe. I do know that NTFS has relatively high overhead, though I do not recall the source of this assertion, so I am considering the use of EXFAT. An open source EXFAT project is hosted on Google Code at [url] and it utilizes the kernel module FUSE.
I'm quite certain that I've got everything covered on the Windows side -- that is, I know that both NTFS and EXFAT will be suitable filesystems for my required usage.
My issue is that I'm curious which will have superior performance and stability in Debian. I planned on building the package from source and mounting the device in my FSTAB but I have also found a PPA for Ubuntu on Launchpad at [url] that I could borrow the debian/rules from and make a .deb package from.
What do you guys think? Should I go at it with the EXFAT or NTFS partitioning? Is NTFS-3G actually fairly supported at this point? Or perhaps should I consider some alternate method?
I have also considered that the only files she will be sharing are those of music, videos, and pictures so it could be better to just link /home/xxxx/Pictures (Music and Videos, too) to the new partition instead of all of /home.

I liked the feel that I got from KDE from my short experiment with Arch. So I decided to use KDE with Fedora, and I like the results.
The only problem I'm finding with it is that I can't find a way to get mp3s to play with KDE apps. I can get Banshee to play them with gstreamer. The problem is that no matter what method I use to get KDE apps to play the files (like Amarok), they won't work.
I've tried the following commands.
Code:
su -c 'yum -y install kdemultimedia-extras-nonfree id3v2'
Gives me an error saying that kdemultimedia-extras-nonfree doesn't exist.
Code:
su -c 'yum install xine-lib-extras-nonfree id3v2'
This installed perfectly, but mp3 playback still does not work.

I know this can be a touchy subject but I would like to find MP3 support for K3b & Xmms, I am a big fan of the Banshee music player and have used it with MP3 support provided by FLUENDO [url] in many Linux distro's. I can play mp3s in Banshee thanks to FLUENDO, however when I open k3d or Xmms I am presented with an opening message that an mp3 plug-in for those apps cannot be found. Can anyone suggest any packages that will enable mp3 support in these applications?

Just how old of hardware DOES Fedora support? They have to draw the line SOMEWHERE.
As an example, would it be the stuff on a PII? PIII? 486? Or what?
IOW; if I were to take the latest release (F12 in this case) how far back in "hardware history" could I expect to go w/o support issues.
