View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a webcam that is connected to a tv tuner card via the rca input on the tuner card. I want to set that up so that i can view it remotely over the internet. I've seen you can use vlc to do this, but the problem is that I don't want to have the webcam's computer recording and streaming all the time. I want it to only do that when i want to view it from my remote computer. We don't view the camera at a regular time, so a set schedule wouldn't work.
I hope this all makes sense. Is this possible, and if so, what is recommended for getting this done.I'm hoping i can somehow control this with a remote control and we'd see it on our tv monitor (that'd make it easy for the non-computer people here), so if it could be done in a script that would be great cause i can have the remote run the script.
Our smart card readers stopped working with Firefox and Thunderbird after upgrading from Fedora 9 to 12. When I first opened it, Thunderbird warned that the "CAC Reader (DoD Configuration Extension)" is incompatible with the current version (3.0b4) and disabled the extention. Firefox (3.5.5) just doesn't work. The module listed in Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird [Security Devices] was "/usr/lib64/pkcs11/libcoolkeypk11.so" which is still there. To get it working in Fedora 9 I was able to run an installer from [URL]. That was before my VeriSign software certificate expired.
Now I can't even connect to forge.mil because they require a PKI cert to connect. I'm wondering how they expect someone to get a driver for their CAC reader if they need a working CAC reader to get the driver - seems like a "Catch 22" situation. I also still have the rpm's that I downloaded before from software.forge.mil. I tried installing those but that didn't help.

There is no module named "linux-vdso.so". It looks like there was a name change that broke the libccid.so dependencies. I tried creating links within "/lib/modules/2.6.31.6-166.fc12.x86_64/" named linux-vdso.so pointing to vdso.so but it still isn't working. I've unloaded the module within Firefox (and Thunderbird) preferences within the [Security Devices] manager. Then tried adding it back using the [Load] button and specifying the coolkey library again but it's still not working.
I have an HP Pavillion tx1410us and I cannot seem to get my wireless card working or recognized. I am not sure if I need another driver, or I need to start another service. I am running Fedora 12 64 bit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a relatively new F12 install (one week old) on which I got my wireless Broadcom card working using kmod-wl-PAE. It was a very easy process - not really a process just yum install kmod-wl-PAE.
After a few updates, I notice that the wireless card stopped working. I assumed maybe there was an update that conflicted, so I did a reinstall of kmod-wl-PAE and it worked again immediately.
Then I started installing compiz-fusion. Immediately after, wireless is broken again. So I yum erase kmod-wl-PAE and then yum install kmod-wl-PAE and it works again.
Now, only slightly later that same day, wireless stops working more or less randomly and I cannot get the reinstall of kmod-wl-PAE to fix it. So I uninstall, disable compiz-fusion, shut down, and restart the computer to try again. My thought is that maybe along the way my autostart compiz or something about compiz is causing the wireless not to configure properly. When I restart, wireless is working. Without kmod-wl-PAE installed:

One, how is this even possible, and two, what is going on with the wireless working, not working, working, not working?
I recently purchased an Acer eMachines E525 laptop, and currently have it dual booting Windows 7 and Fedora 12 x86_64 with the 2.6.31.5-127 kernel. I've been completely unable to get the wireless card working in Fedora (it works fine in windows).
lspci lists the following about the wireless card:

So far I have tried downloading the driver from [URL] and then trying to install it according to the accompanying readme file: [URL]. However, when I try to make the driver, I get the following message:

I realise there's the option of using ndiswrapper, but I gave that a shot with Fedora 11 on the same machine and had no luck, and I'd really like to see whether any of the other options work before going down that route.

With my Compaq CQ62 it seems I can either have a distro provide a working wifi or a working soundcard but not both. I would love to have Linux working properly. Wireless internet works great in Windows 7. The ethernet works perfectly when I plug directly into my router, but pressing the wireless button will not change the light on it from orange to white or do anything else. Yet a simple distro like crunchbang or kubuntu seems to make the wireless work fine.
They just cant make my soundcard work. Being that there is at least some sort of a protocol for installing wireless drivers, I figured I would go with the distro that gives me SOUND since installing a sound driver seems unheard of or impossible. I have a realtek wireless network card in my laptop that Fedora, one of the biggest names in Linux, seems oblivious to even recognize. When I click on the network icon and go to Manage Connections, the Wireless tab is greyed out and cannot be clicked on.
i have a creative sound card installed in my system. But it is not working. What I got is a mono sound output. I also check pulse audio volume control but only mono sound it displayed in the play back tab. i checked sound & volume control in
system-> preferences -> hardware ->sound
system-> preferences -> hardware ->volume control
But no avail it can only play analog front speaker, neither IEC958 centre nor left/right speakers.Actually in this,(F-10) there is no options to check a 5.1 surround sound(which is available in windows explicitly). Can anyone please help me to configure the sound card for a 5.1 surround system?
I have a PC with Fedora Core 5, and only command line available for this PC. I try to use the ALSA sample program to playback a simple sine wave, and I can't get any sound from the audio out. I suspect that the sound card is set as mute. I have a sata card in my RHEL5 server that is not working. It has a 1.5tb hard drive attached to it that I would like to use. It seems that the 2.6.18 kernel did not detect and use it by default. I was able to find some info about the

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135 with a built in Atheros 802.11 b/g wireless card. It worked perfectly up until i upgraded from Fedora 12 to 13 but now it quits working and when i go to the terminal and type service network restart I get this:

So after installing 11.3 for some reason I cleared all the widgets off my desktop. When I add the folder view widget to the desktop again so I can see my desktop iconsthe widget doesn't show my icons unless I click on it and they drop down. Without clicking on it, the widget shows the desktop icon (similar to the "show desktop" icon)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using a basic web cam, these are the specs on it equipped with an SD Drive and in order to see the contents of the SD drive, I would just have to switch the camera to MSDC in order for openSUSE 11.4 to load the SD drive on the camera. Well, for whatever reason, it stopped working! Just want to know if I did something wrong. This is the spec of the camera from the USB app.

When I load the disk I can view my backup drive properly but when I try to view my working drive it shows it as being empty. I also noticed that I had a 1 mg unallocated partition at the beginning followed by my ubuntu partition.
I then ran gparted in terminal and it did show the partition as having my system on it but I am not able to perform any tasks. No moving or resizing.
I had an Ubuntu Server 32 bit installation and everything was working fine. Now that I installed Ubuntu Server 64bit on a new drive in the same machine, the ethernet card is not working!! This is insane cause when I put the hard disk with the 32bit installation back and booting from it, the ethernet card is working without any problems but in the 64bits installation it is not shown at all using "ifconfig -a"

How can I check which module is being loaded in the 32bits installation to try to load it manually in the 64 bits installation?
I thought it was just a normal stuck pixel the first day I saw it, but then I noticed if I move opera around the screen they stay with opera. It doesn't occur with any other programs, only opera. These pixels also show up when I take a screenshot. Is there a way to get rid of these pixels (or whatever they are)?

I have designed images to use as panel backgrounds but they tile so it's like one consistent thing as I don't know the dimensions for the length of panels, only the 24 pixel height. I've attached a couple so try them out, they're pretty cool.
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my wife's old notebook, a Sony Vaio PCG-FX705, by wiping the HDD (i.e. no more Windows ). The problem is that there's some weird display error that reminds of a TFT with pixel errors, although that's no the cause. I got a screenshot of it here (made with a digicam), and here is a close-up of it.
One thing I've noticed is that this error starts at the mouse pointer's tip and goes right when the computer is booted. Also, when using Blank Screen as screensaver, the error disappears once the screen went blank until I press a key or move the mouse, at which point the error will re-appear at the mouse pointer's current location. The only way I found so far to temporarily fix this problem is to change display resolution. It doesn't matter which resolution I use, all that matters is that I change it.

Now I have pixelerrors in pictures and they are static for the pictures aka, the pixels are static in the picture even if I move a webpage for instance.
Any buggreport on this? Or how to fix it, its hard to make a screendump but I could take a picture of the screen with a cam if someone like to see it
