Fedora 12 live running from USB with persistence storage. My laptop has extra numeric key pad.But Fedora is not recognizing this keypad. Only number keys above the QWERTY working.---------- Post added at 04:55 PM CDT ---------- Previous post was at 08:16 AM CDT ----------Also, upon every restart my keyboard layout changes from UK to USA mode!
in order to select multiple items, shift key was hold for several seconds[sure > 8sec] and there after system is not taking any input from keyboard. however only the mouse works. i searched a lot and found some remedies like hold right and/or left shift keys for 8 sec and it will revert back. press shift key 5 times and hold ins key for 8 sec etc,. but i tried all these and none of it seems to be working. i even hold some alphabet key for 8 seconds to see if it takes input, but none of them seems to be working
i connected this keyboard to other machine and it works fine. this keyboard is USB dell keyboard. i tried logging in init level 3 and even with this i can not input anything from keyboard. i did reboot several times and unable to even login as it does not take any keyboard input. the only way i can access this system is to remote login from other system and work on command prompt!!is there a fix to it? accidentally if something is changed in which file it is saved? can i edit that file and restore to normal? am not sure if all these does not work i may have to reformat!! but this is the last thing i want to do
I'm having an issue installing Fedora 11. The install goes fine, but after restarting (when I get to the initial configuration screen) my keyboard and mouse don't work. I can boot into the Live CD without issue. My boot.log file is below:
boot.log: Code: Welcome to Fedora Press 'I' to enter interactive startup. Starting udev: [OK] Setting hostname Ste-PC: [OK] mdadm: failed to add /dev/sda1 to /dev/md/imsm0: No such device or address mdadm: Container /dev/md/imsm0 has been assembled with 2 drives mdadm: Started /dev/md126 with 2 devices .....
HAL is failing to start, could that be the issue? If so, how should I go about fixing it?
fvwm2 2.5.30 gnome-session 2.28.0 Fedora 12 64 bit
I have this setting in my .fvwm2rc: Key q A 4 Close The above works fine in fvwm without gnome, but when I execute gnome-session, seems the modifier is ignored. If I replace the '4' with 'A' and restart fvwm2 under gnome (fvwm2 --replace) the letter q will close the window. But with '4' or 'M' with gnome-session, the modifier is ignored. Also tried : xmodmap -e "add mod4 = Super_L"
I recently compiled a new kernel (2.6.38.8) but it seems I forgot something. Right after grub, when the new kernel is selected (by using the keyboard), the keyboard stops working (it's on usb). When I select the old kernel everything is working nicely.
I actually used the config of the old kernel to configure the new one but excluded some modules before I finally compiled it. Now I'm asking myself which modul did I erroneously throw out?
Edit: A somewhat related question: Is there a log somewhere in the kernel source folder (or someplace else) which shows the kernel compilation process?
I just installed F11 on my new laptop (Acer Timeline 3810T) and I have the following issue when adjusting volume. The keyboard shortcuts work, but they don't raise/lower the volume smoothly, instead they do it in 4 or 5 increments total. What's weird is that the notification that appears in the screen when I adjust the volume (the whitish square with a picture of a speaker, I think it's part of Compiz) shows the the volume changing in small increments, but when I get to the 3rd or 4th little increment from the right the volume is already muted. If I look at the alsa volume controls at the same time, I see it changing by the 4 or 5 big increments.
I installed Fedora 11 on an external usb HDD (StoreJet trascend) connected to my Acer AspireOne (110 L), and it has been working marvelous for over a month. Today, something really strange happened: After I choose the booting media (StoreJet trascend) Fedora 11 freezes on the loggin screen: Both, keyboard and mouse, stop working. I have no idea what services are shoot down or not recognized since the start screen starts with the blue and fedora logo one.
I have a problem with my keyboard. Im unable to type single or double quotes, at least not the regular sort that you need to write code in almost any programming language ever invented -which makes it pretty useless.A demonstration.Single left and right tilted quotes:Double quotes: m not able to type a single straight quote at all.I just want my keyboard layout to be standard US like everyone elses so I can get on with my work so does anybody know how to just reset it to a normal layout?
After upgrading F14 -> F15 bluetooth (mouse/keyboard) are not working. With F14 there was no problems.
lsusb gives:

I bought a Rock Mini keyboard with touchpad MSZ-KBTP. The touchpad is working with fedora 14 but some of the keys are not what they should be. I tried changing the keyboard layout under gnome keyboard settings but the keyboard is not listed.
I'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.
I have upgraded my laptop to 10.04 while having my usb-keyboard plugged in.f I boot the laptop without a plugged in keyboard, the laptop keyboard is not working. It starts working as soon as I plug a usb-keyboard in though.Quite annoying if I take my laptop with me and the first thing after booting is to find a usb-keyboard to plug in Does anyone know where can I reconfigure this? [edit]I just found out, that the laptop keyboar seems to be in numlock mode... meaning that the keys [j,k,l] is mapped to [1,2,3] etc
need to press each key for a second before it is seen but login does fine in password. I saw a sticky key warning but pressed "cancel" before this started.
I'm a huge keyboard shortcut fan. I can't stand mice. So this is a big one for me.
My Alt+F10 (maximize) and Alt+F9 (minimize) keyboard shortcuts work just fine. I read everywhere (i.e., [URL]) that the Alt+F5 combo should unmaximize a maximized window. But it's not working. Can't find anything that says Debian excludes that combo.
Is this to be expected or is something amiss? I think its meant to be a default shortcut, so don't want to start playing around with customizations prematurely.
Searched through the forum, couldn't find anything under the following search terms: Alt F5; Alt+F5: Alt +F5: Alt-F5: maximize: unmaximize. Did I miss the magic string?
I have a Dell Studio XPS desktop 435MT, with Ubuntu 9.1 64 bit version. There is no ps/2 port in this computer. It worked perfectly fine until yesterday I switched it on and my keyboard lights switch on, but no key pressed works from the very beginning Dell BIOS screen! I have tried to use LiveCD but keyboard doesn't work even there, so it automatically selects english and loads from cd... once it installs the livecd version and loads it, the keyboard starts working again (good thing as I recovered my data). I have also tried inserting norton ghost or other dell setup cds but don't work because a key needs to be pressed and so goes on loading grub (which doesn't work). I will try to fresh install from the terminal screen of the livecd ubuntu.
I don't think I could be much newer to Ubuntu (I only started using it properly an hour ago) and I'm having trouble with the keyboard shortcuts. Nothing happens when I press alt-f2 to run terminal, or ctrl-alt-tab to switch workspaces. I also cannot use the fn keys to dim the screen, change the volume etc
my keyboard has gone very strange, the shift key is not working, and when i press "t" i get rt. when i press "y" i get "uy" all was fine - have had ubuntu for several months, but last few weeks been strange. software centre no longer works, and cannot "unlock" on ubuntutweak. also my bluetooth dongle has stopped working are all these problems connected? i have reinsrtalled rthe sofrtware cenrtre and ubunrtu rtweak burt rto no avail
Ubuntu 9.04Dell desktop pcKeyboard stopped workingI was in the middle of an emailwhen my keyboard stopped working.I rebooted.Keyboard worked for Windows Vista.Keyboard worked for Ubuntu login. But once in Ubuntu no keyboard.Mouse works fine. think I may have accidentally touchedthe control key when doing the email
I can log into ubuntu using my keyboard and mouse but about 5 seconds after I hit enter my mouse quits working. Keyboard still works so I can open terminal and use all keyboard. But, if I hit the touchpad toggle button over and over again many many times in a row, the mouse will start to work and my keyboard stops. I don't know what my course of action is to fix this strange problem. It just started today.
So my computer was slow with Karmic Koala, so I tried upgrading my build to Lucid Lynx 10.04.
Now I can't login because neither my keyboard nor mouse (and touch-pad) work. However, I can access the command mode (terminal?) though through the grub boot menu.
how I can get my mouse (and touch-pad) and keyboard to work with Ubuntu 10.04? My machine is an Acer Aspire 4730Z. I dual boot with Windows 7, and I'd prefer not to have to clear out the partition for Linux and reinstall.
I messed up my xorg.conf and tried to put in a clean one, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure what went wrong. When X loads, the mouse cursor is not responding and my keyboard is dead too. I can't toggle to text mode either (Alt-Ctrl-F1).Hope the following files might explain what's wrong./var/log/Xorg.0.log
Code: [ 26.835] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Power Button (/dev/input/event2) [ 26.840] (II) No input driver/identifier specified (ignoring)
i recently installed ubuntu on my lenovo Y500 laptop and later found that my laptops keyboard is not working. But when i tried using ubuntu before installing it via my pendrive everything seemed to work perfectly.
When I boot up a few things are different than before the last update:
grub no longer does the 10 second countdown the ubuntu splash screen has changed to some wierd text version "Ubuntu 10.10" when the boot is finished nothing works on my laptop (keyboard, mouse, integrated touchpad mouse thing...). I am able to get the mouse to work by unpluging it from the usb port and plugging it back in.
applications seem to work fine, (thunderbird, firefox, etc) the ony ploblem is that I have no way of typing anything... Also i have a keyboard icon that was never there before that puts my keyboard in USA mode (it has always been set to french since my install.
I have a dual boot vista/maverick on an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop.
This is the first time I've got a major problem with Ubuntu (I started with version 5), and this one is particularly frustrating.I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on my old (2007) desktop PC.Occasionally, but more and more often now, the keyboard just stops working. The mouse is still fine. When I shut down, I would sometime notice that the "stop crash report generation" process fails. Then the shutdown sequence stops at some point, and I am forced to do a hard shutdown, power down for a while, and reboot. If I don't wait after power off, the keyboard freeze would occur again at any time during the start up sequence. I even had a keyboard freeze after manually switching to the Windows boot.
I have been using citrix to log into work for quite some time now. Recently I ran into a problem where the keyboard stops working after some time. The link below from a citirx forum describes the issue. The work-round is to edit the file config/module.ini below the client's installation directory (usually /usr/lib/ICAClient)ind the line "UseLocalIM=True" and change the value to "False".My issue is that this a root file and I don't want to compromise my system. So my question is should I try this and if so could somebody lead me by the hand as to how; using the sudo and I believe chmod command
After running the most-recent ubuntu update, several keys on my laptop stopped working when running ubuntu. The non-working keys are: J, K, L, M, N, O, I, U, P, 8, 9, and 0. (All the keys do work properly when the laptop is running Windows XP or PuppyLinux 4.2.1.) how to restore the keys? I am running ubuntu 10.10 on a Panasonic CF-W5 laptop.
I've a really strange problem with the auto-complete in midnight commander. I've linux installed in a laptop, and when I do Esc-TAB with the keyboard of the laptop, the autocomplete works. But, if a connect an USB keyboard to the laptop, the autocomplete of the mc doesn't work in the USB keyboard, but stills work in the laptop keyboard.
