View 3 RepliesI have upgraded my laptop to 10.04 while having my usb-keyboard plugged in.f I boot the laptop without a plugged in keyboard, the laptop keyboard is not working. It starts working as soon as I plug a usb-keyboard in though.Quite annoying if I take my laptop with me and the first thing after booting is to find a usb-keyboard to plug in Does anyone know where can I reconfigure this? [edit]I just found out, that the laptop keyboar seems to be in numlock mode... meaning that the keys [j,k,l] is mapped to [1,2,3] etc
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Studio XPS desktop 435MT, with Ubuntu 9.1 64 bit version. There is no ps/2 port in this computer. It worked perfectly fine until yesterday I switched it on and my keyboard lights switch on, but no key pressed works from the very beginning Dell BIOS screen! I have tried to use LiveCD but keyboard doesn't work even there, so it automatically selects english and loads from cd... once it installs the livecd version and loads it, the keyboard starts working again (good thing as I recovered my data). I have also tried inserting norton ghost or other dell setup cds but don't work because a key needs to be pressed and so goes on loading grub (which doesn't work). I will try to fresh install from the terminal screen of the livecd ubuntu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't think I could be much newer to Ubuntu (I only started using it properly an hour ago) and I'm having trouble with the keyboard shortcuts. Nothing happens when I press alt-f2 to run terminal, or ctrl-alt-tab to switch workspaces. I also cannot use the fn keys to dim the screen, change the volume etc

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can log into ubuntu using my keyboard and mouse but about 5 seconds after I hit enter my mouse quits working. Keyboard still works so I can open terminal and use all keyboard. But, if I hit the touchpad toggle button over and over again many many times in a row, the mouse will start to work and my keyboard stops. I don't know what my course of action is to fix this strange problem. It just started today.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my computer was slow with Karmic Koala, so I tried upgrading my build to Lucid Lynx 10.04.
Now I can't login because neither my keyboard nor mouse (and touch-pad) work. However, I can access the command mode (terminal?) though through the grub boot menu.
how I can get my mouse (and touch-pad) and keyboard to work with Ubuntu 10.04? My machine is an Acer Aspire 4730Z. I dual boot with Windows 7, and I'd prefer not to have to clear out the partition for Linux and reinstall.
I messed up my xorg.conf and tried to put in a clean one, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure what went wrong. When X loads, the mouse cursor is not responding and my keyboard is dead too. I can't toggle to text mode either (Alt-Ctrl-F1).Hope the following files might explain what's wrong./var/log/Xorg.0.log

applications seem to work fine, (thunderbird, firefox, etc) the ony ploblem is that I have no way of typing anything... Also i have a keyboard icon that was never there before that puts my keyboard in USA mode (it has always been set to french since my install.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is the first time I've got a major problem with Ubuntu (I started with version 5), and this one is particularly frustrating.I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on my old (2007) desktop PC.Occasionally, but more and more often now, the keyboard just stops working. The mouse is still fine. When I shut down, I would sometime notice that the "stop crash report generation" process fails. Then the shutdown sequence stops at some point, and I am forced to do a hard shutdown, power down for a while, and reboot. If I don't wait after power off, the keyboard freeze would occur again at any time during the start up sequence. I even had a keyboard freeze after manually switching to the Windows boot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using citrix to log into work for quite some time now. Recently I ran into a problem where the keyboard stops working after some time. The link below from a citirx forum describes the issue.The work-round is to edit the file config/module.ini below the client's installation directory (usually /usr/lib/ICAClient)ind the line "UseLocalIM=True" and change the value to "False".My issue is that this a root file and I don't want to compromise my system.So my question is should I try this and if so could somebody lead me by the hand as to how; using the sudo and I believe chmod command

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a dell d630 laptop and tried to connect an external ps2 keyboard and mouse using USB connectors to the laptop's USB ports. However, they are not detected by the system.

I have thinkpad sl510 and want to have keyboard shortcut "alt"+"y" to show me desktop. View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a generic USB keyboard (not wireless) that works perfectly on WinXP, the BIOS and the GRUB boot menu. As soon as Ubuntu 10.04 loads, however,he keyboard stops working. Tried different ports, still nothing. I haven't tested on previous versions of Ubuntu or other Linux distros. A PS/2 keyboard works great on Ubuntu except the one I have is broken, hence why I'm using this USB keyboard. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm running 10.04, typically using the default gnome session. I locked my screen overnight, and when I came back the keyboard wasn't working. Before anyone asks, yes it is still plugged in. Here's where it gets weird. I logged out using the mouse, and switched to another user on the system, and it works fine. I have keyboard input on the gdm log on screen and for other users. I've tried about every possible combination of logging on/off and rebooting and nothing seems to work. Is this an Xorg thing or a gnome thing? Any ideas what to do from here? I can still get to a terminal through another user and then "su" to my user so I can run "sudo" commands. So in other words, no need to bring in a live CD or a clean install at this point, but I don't really know where to start with this one.
UPDATE: I switched session types to LXDE, and the keyboard DOES work for my user. However, when going back to gnome it still doesn't work. I guess that seems to point towards it being a gnome thing, not Xorg.
I was having a problem with the mouse and keyboard randomly failing to work after upgrading to version 10.04. I tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions. The problem went away after I edited the file /etc/default/grub and changed the following line:
from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash noapic nolapic"
If you are unable to open a terminal window, try doing the following
Ctrl+Alt+F1
Log into you account.
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
After saving your changes and exiting nano you can reboot by using the halt command.(FYI Ctrl+Alt+F7 gets you back into X server -- but you need to reboot for the change to take effect) Update: problem recurred. I had to do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to log into a console. I executed 'ps aux | more' to find the PID for X.Using the PID I restart X with 'sudo kill -S SIGTERM <PID>'.Once it started up again it was fine.

When I start the computer everything is fine until the login prompt where my password contains certain letters that don't work. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 10.04 since several months and I randomly have problems with the keyboard (PS2). Maybe 2-4 times per week the keyboard stops working all in a sudden. The symptoms related to this can be- the keyboard simply does not react any more to key press- during typing the keyboard gets crazy and fills the lines with the last typed character- opened windows move to the left when touching them at the top bar, keyboard does not react any more. When clicking on a panel menu the focus line is running permanently quickly through all items, and it's practically impossible to click on any of those (so even shutdown is difficult to achieve, and I might need to use a hard reset).
In nearly all cases the problem only disappears after reboot, just very rarely a logout is sufficient to get the keyboard working again. I googled for similar problems and found quite some people having problems with keyboard (and/or mouse) not working correctly under Ubuntu, but I have not stumbled over a similar error description as I have.Just some config parameters on my box: amd64, XOrg uses an Nvidia driver, 3D and Compiz are activated
