Fedora Networking :: 10 DNS Information Gets Lost After Changing IP Address To Static

Feb 21, 2009

I am using Fedora 10 and when I first installed my machine, I had a DHCP assigned address to my network card. Later on I decided that I wanted to give my machine more of a server role, so I switched to static IP using the system-config-network utility. What happened after that was that I did change the IP address and routing information, but DNS information gets lost at every reboot, so I need to type it back again.

Fedora :: Changing Mount Point Of Automatically Recognized Devices (IPod)

Feb 24, 2010

When I attach my ipod it gets automatically recognised and mounted to "/media/user's ipod". This is great but I would like to change the mount point to just "/media/ipod/" as it easier to use with gnupod (command driven ipod access oh yes!!) I've had a look around and I know how to mount devices but I'm at a lose as to how things in fedora are automatically mounted... I use gnome so from what I've read hal, dbus, and udev yeah? but I'm not sure what configuration files need to be changed. At the moment I'm just wanting to change the ipods mount point but I would like know more so any technical how-to or articles, or things to look at (I'm thinking X), to understand auto mounting would be nice too.

Ubuntu :: Fstab Mount Not Working/visible?

May 5, 2010

I have a problem with one of my partitions, that used to be automounted trough fstab, before my upgrade to Lucid.

The partitions is used for storing all things related to virtualization. It's purpose is not relevant to the error, I think.

The affected part of the fstab file looks as follows:

Code:
# backuppartition on sdb
UUID=b623c9a2-8d4a-4399-be07-b8b1c74d23fd /backup ext4 defaults 1 3
# Virtualization Partition

P.S. I tried editing the fstab for the virtual parition, to

UUID=a56a9445-d375-45b4-abb5-d3512da0a3e6 /home/***/virtual ext4 defaults,auto 1 3

Ubuntu :: Mount NTFS Harddrive Not Visible In Fdisk?

Jul 7, 2010

I have a ntfs hard drive (my "C" drive in Windows) and it has some very important data (baby pictures) on it. The drive is, for some reason, very fail-prone. Last time it went out, I used ubuntu to make a windows disk (I have the key, nothing illegal!) and it went to the error fixing part or what have you and fixed it all up. That was a few days ago, and I was working on backing up the picturs but hadn't finished, and it failed again. Now I can't get it to fix the current windows installation, even though it's doing the same thing (making a clicking noise and stalling on boot before eventually giving up and booting to the ubuntu "d" drive.), it will only take me to the part about installing a new copy of windows, which I don't want to do because that would wipe the drive.

So my next idea was to try and get at the pictures through ubuntu, but when I use sudo fdisk -l, it only shows me my ubuntu hard drive.. Is there anything I can do to find and mount the other drive? I really can't afford to take it in to a professional for data recovery, and I've had them charge me an arm and a leg and do nothing but wipe my drive in the past, so I want to do everything I can to try and get my pictures back myself.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Mount Points And Disk Drives Not Visible?

Jul 29, 2010

Since I installed 11.3 I have noticed the /srv and /local mount points are empty! I also can no longer see my hard drives that have no mount points. I couldn't mount any hot plug media either but now have that fixed. I won't go into the mess I have with my video card and getting the x server started....

I did have Xampp installed to /srv/www but don't even know where it is now!

fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 36.4 GB, 36401479680 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4425 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

[Code]....

I had no problems with this in 11.1 until a month ago when I updated and it seemed to keep losing the permissions for these drives as once I accessed them via Dolphin they would be accessible. Now they are not even visible in a file manager!

Ubuntu Networking :: Shared Folder Not Visible / Error: Failed To Mount Windows Share?

Jan 2, 2010

I have two computers running Ubuntu 9.10, both have one shared folder. These were set up via Nautilus.

On computer 1 I can see and use the shared folder of computer 2 just fine.

On computer 2 I can NOT see the shared folder of computer 1 anymore since recently. I has worked in the past.

Some more information: the name of computer 1 is "daniel", the share name is "gedeeld". So the address of the shared folder of computer 1 would be smb://daniel/gedeeld/
Opening this address in Nautilus works fine on computer 1 (that shares the folder), but results in an error on computer 2.

Error: failed to mount Windows share. Please select another viewer and try again.

Ubuntu :: Mounting Partitions - Get NFTS Configuration To Run

Nov 22, 2010

This is my first time using Ubuntu (though I've been interested in it for about a year). I decided to dual-boot my Acer AspireOne netbook running Windows 7 starter with Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook version. I am in the process of looking through all of the information in terms of getting use to the system, but right now I am trying to figure out how to access my files on the Windows half of the computer. I've been following the instructions here: [URL] but I am unable to get NFTS configuration to run, so I moved onto PySDM which appeared to work just fine except now when I boot up it gives me the error: "Unable to mount media/sda3" Press S to skip mounting process or M for manual recovery

Since I am still very much a newbie when it comes to terminal commands, I stayed away from the manual recovery and pressing S just puts me back into the welcome screen so I can log in. I've been searching the forums and I can't find much on it. Maybe I am missing a really important factor here? Also, in some version of the instructions, the other partitions are supposed to become viewable once mounted. I went into looking through the files using PySDM, but what I saw was mostly greyed out files...

Ubuntu :: Reformat Read-only NFTS External Drive?

Aug 30, 2010

Short version: How do I reformat an external hard-drive (read-only, NFTS) so that I can rw to it.

Long version: I had a self-built Ubuntu desktop that is now dead. I have pulled out the hard-drives and have bought one of the connector's to convert the SATA cable to USB so I can put the data on my Mac. Unfortunately, my Mac is not able to read the hard-drive for some reason... So, I've decided to boot my old Ubuntu laptop to pull the files from the SATA drive to an external drive then hopefully connect that external drive to transfer the files to the Mac. The external drive is currently formatted as NFTS and I'm unable to reformat it with gparted--I'm guessing that's because it's read-only mode...?

I successfully installed the latest itunes and can run it with Wine, but the ipod doesn't show up on the devices menu on the left. I can see an Ipod touch icon on my desktop and in nautilus, and I can drag files into the ipod via nautilus, but they don't show up on the ipod's music menu. There's an option to open the ipod w/ Rhythmbox, but when I do, it isn't there (in rhythmbox). I'd rather not resort to jailbreaking. I guess I wouldn't mind using virtualbox, but I don't have a copy of XP handy. Mediachest looks like garbage to me, and I don't know how to work it.

Ubuntu :: Can't Open Synaptic Package Manager And Can't Play Mp4 Vids With Video Player

I don't understand because I will have no other program running and I make sure of it.

Then when I try playing mp4 with video player I get this message: The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file?

The search will also include software which is not officially supported.

So I happily click search, it finds the required software and asks if i want to install, I click to install, put in my password, but nothing ever gets installed. It's just idle. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04
