Ubuntu :: NTFS Not Visible, Unable To Mount?

Dec 10, 2010

Earlier i had windows 7 in my hard disk, somehow it got corrupted. Over that i installed ubuntu linux 10.04. I am having a live CD, before installation during the live mode, i was able to see all the NTFS data (windows 7) available in my hard disk. Then i installed Ubuntu 10.04 on the same hard disc. Now under the menu places->Network->windows network. When i double click on this icon, Linux is throwing an error "Unable to mount location failed to retrieve share list from server" and not showing any files. Am having 320GB capacity hard disk. I tried using Getparted to find NTFS partitions, but i could see only the following, where NTFS is missing

Ubuntu :: Mount NTFS Harddrive Not Visible In Fdisk?

Jul 7, 2010

I have a ntfs hard drive (my "C" drive in Windows) and it has some very important data (baby pictures) on it. The drive is, for some reason, very fail-prone. Last time it went out, I used ubuntu to make a windows disk (I have the key, nothing illegal!) and it went to the error fixing part or what have you and fixed it all up. That was a few days ago, and I was working on backing up the picturs but hadn't finished, and it failed again. Now I can't get it to fix the current windows installation, even though it's doing the same thing (making a clicking noise and stalling on boot before eventually giving up and booting to the ubuntu "d" drive.), it will only take me to the part about installing a new copy of windows, which I don't want to do because that would wipe the drive.

So my next idea was to try and get at the pictures through ubuntu, but when I use sudo fdisk -l, it only shows me my ubuntu hard drive.. Is there anything I can do to find and mount the other drive? I really can't afford to take it in to a professional for data recovery, and I've had them charge me an arm and a leg and do nothing but wipe my drive in the past, so I want to do everything I can to try and get my pictures back myself.

Debian Multimedia :: KDE 4.6.4 - Unable To Mount NTFS

Jun 27, 2011

Recently updated KDE to the last version available, v4.6.4. Apparently Dolphin lost the ability to mount ntfs/fat32 volumes. It was working great with 4.6.3. I'm getting this error while trying to mount an external HDD formatted as NTFS:

An error occurred while accessing 'LaCie', the system responded: org.freedesktop.UDisks.Error.Failed: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so

OpenSUSE :: Unable To Mount NTFS Partitions?

Jun 24, 2011

I first noted a few weeks ago I couldn't mount my NTFS partitions using dolphin. At the time I was having problems with windows, so I thought - naturally, they are marked as dirty, no biggie-

However, I still can't mount them and I know they are clean. I get the error: "filesystem is neither well know nor in /proc/filesystem nor in /etc/filesystems" which is strange since I can mount just fine in the console using mount -t ntfs-3g.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Install Firefox Extension If Profile Is On NTFS (NTFS-3g) Volume?

Jul 16, 2010

Reproducible with Firefox 3.6.6 (installed from Ubuntu 10.04 repository), on Dell D620, Ubuntu 10.04 Steps to reproduce:

1) start Firefox from command line "firefox -P"

2) create new Firefox profile on NTFS volume (mounted with NTFS-3g)

3) add NoScript extension (through extension manager Get Add-ons), restart Firefox as suggested

4) extension is not added to Firefox In case at step 2) profile is created on Linux volume, at 4) extension is added to firefox.I'm not 100% sure, but I think this bug is related to Firefox 3.6 update (no problems with Firefox 3.5). I did not make proper investigation, but I have feeling same problem applies to Thunderbird 3.1.This issue does not allow to share Firefox/Thunderbird profile on dual boot machine (Ubuntu/WindowsXP).

Ubuntu :: Fstab Mount Not Working/visible?

May 5, 2010

I have a problem with one of my partitions, that used to be automounted trough fstab, before my upgrade to Lucid.

The partitions is used for storing all things related to virtualization. It's purpose is not relevant to the error, I think.

The affected part of the fstab file looks as follows:

Code:
# backuppartition on sdb
UUID=b623c9a2-8d4a-4399-be07-b8b1c74d23fd /backup ext4 defaults 1 3
# Virtualization Partition

[Code].....

P.S. I tried editing the fstab for the virtual parition, to

UUID=a56a9445-d375-45b4-abb5-d3512da0a3e6 /home/***/virtual ext4 defaults,auto 1 3

1) Can this permission be set in the fstab file? If so what is the syntax of the fstab entry?

2) If not, is there a tool i.e. GUI to set the mount permissions?

Debian Installation :: Critical Bug Of "mount -t Ntfs" Cause NTFS Partition Broken

May 2, 2010

About dual boot system with winxp and lenny.

Storage information:
1st primary:SG 160G ATA 100
1st secondary:WD 160 ATA 133
SATA:WD 1000
2nd primary:DVD
2nd secondary:DVD±RW

Winxp in 1st primary.I did a fresh install of lenny on 1st secondary.

info about lenny setup:
1.Partition list:/boot,/,/home,swap
2.Every partition is XFS except swap.

At the end of installion, lenny installed grub on (hd0) that is 1st primary.

Everything seems OK.Lenny runs OK.

But when I switch back to windows xp,the diskmgmt can not detect hdd's info and the system meets a problem of shutting down.

After many times of trying.
I solved the problem by the following way.
1.Boot with windows xp's install CD and use fixmbr on (hd0).
2.Boot with lenny's install DVD , do a grub>root (1,0)>setup (hd1)
After that,edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and change (hd0,0) to (hd1,0) and also (hd1,0) to (hd0,0).
3.Reboot and Press F8 for a boot menu then I can select which disk to boot.
windows boot from 1st primary's mbr, lenny boot from lenny's grub.

The problem is caused by a bug between GRUB and windows' mbr and maybe more about GRUB and XFS.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Mount Points And Disk Drives Not Visible?

Jul 29, 2010

Since I installed 11.3 I have noticed the /srv and /local mount points are empty! I also can no longer see my hard drives that have no mount points. I couldn't mount any hot plug media either but now have that fixed. I won't go into the mess I have with my video card and getting the x server started....

I did have Xampp installed to /srv/www but don't even know where it is now!

fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 36.4 GB, 36401479680 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4425 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

[Code]....

I had no problems with this in 11.1 until a month ago when I updated and it seemed to keep losing the permissions for these drives as once I accessed them via Dolphin they would be accessible. Now they are not even visible in a file manager!

Ubuntu Networking :: Shared Folder Not Visible / Error: Failed To Mount Windows Share?

Jan 2, 2010

I have two computers running Ubuntu 9.10, both have one shared folder. These were set up via Nautilus.

On computer 1 I can see and use the shared folder of computer 2 just fine.

On computer 2 I can NOT see the shared folder of computer 1 anymore since recently. I has worked in the past.

Some more information: the name of computer 1 is "daniel", the share name is "gedeeld". So the address of the shared folder of computer 1 would be smb://daniel/gedeeld/
Opening this address in Nautilus works fine on computer 1 (that shares the folder), but results in an error on computer 2.

Error: failed to mount Windows share. Please select another viewer and try again.

Ubuntu :: HPFS/NTFS Won't Mount

Oct 20, 2010

Recently installed ubuntu 10.10 and rather like it but been trying to setup and configure everything so its a feasible alternate OS.

I have a problem where one of my hard drives doesnt show up in places.

The drive works fine in windows.

The information provided to me by Disk Utility says:

Model: ATA WDC WD 10EADS-00L5B1
Partitioning: Master Boot Record
Device: /dev/sdb
Partition Type: HPFS/NTFS (0x07)

Now i have a total of 4 drives, windows 7 on one, linux on one, and 2 storage. Linux recognizes my main windows drive and my 2 TB storage drive, but not this one for some reason. I assume it has to do with the partition type? Disk utility just shows its parition bar image as 'unknown' so yeah. Now there is one error during boot related to this but i can't read it fast enough to remember it all, all i see is the sdb label real quick.
