Anyway - When I try to get some kind of Desktop Effects, I get the error prompt "Accelerated 3d Graphics is not available." One reason why I think it might be doing this is because I may be using the VESA driver instead of intel, i830, or i810, etc. But again, I dont know how to check this.
I am new to fedora and cant find how to install the graphics card on fedora14. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using Fedora 14, last month I installed ATI graphics driver on fedora 14, as I have 256 MB integrated graphics card on motherboard and now I uninstalled that graphics driver because that was'nt working properly. Now whenever I try to open Desktop Effects from System --> Preferences --> Desktop Effects it shows me the error "Accelerated 3D graphics is not available" Desktop effects require hardware 3D support.
Now please help me to solve this issue so that I can again able to run Desktop Effects.
I am a Ubuntu and LINUX newbie. Install goes easy but I can not get 3D accelerated graphics to work. So I am stuck with poor and slow graphics. I tried and tried with the ATI card and went back to make onboard the primary. Neither seems to allow for visual effects upgrade nor 3d graphics in games.

I use a program that has 3D graphics everything has a 'laggy' appearance and freezes for short seconds. These programs included any of the games from Ubuntu Software Center, along with other applications such as games ran through Wine(seperate problem).
Things to keep in mind:
-I've downloaded the automatic updates through Ubuntu Software Center.
-I'm fairly new to Ubuntu(still learning).
-Provide as many details in, if, you post a possible solution.
-I'm only using Ubuntu 10.10 as my OS, no dual-boots with Windows or any other OS.

Have a system that previously had F9 and F10 on it, with video hardware:
Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
xorg.conf is using
Driver "intel"
F9 and F10 would pass MPEG to the video card for accelerated decoding and playback and it worked just great in VLC, MPLAYER, etc.
F11 installed (fresh install, not upgrade) and the accelerated path seems to be gone. CPU utilization goes very high when playing back any MPEG video.
Additionally, the following information is observed coming out of MPLAYER:
MPEG-ES file format detected.
VIDEO: MPEG2 1920x1080 (aspect 1) 59.940 fps 15000.0 kbps (1875.0 kbyte/s)

It looks to me like the video driver is being queried whether it supports Mpeg PES colorspace, and the answer seems to be no, so then it falls back to software decoding.

I know that this laptop (Asus UL30A) does support playing HD material with the help of the GPU on windows. The question is how can I do this under linux? The CPU load as is implies that this is not activated. I assume that it's limited to a handful of codecs. But which player supports this, if its even supported at all?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest 10.10 and loving it, former Windows user I noticed just shortly after installing 10.4, that a few select applications would open and I would see "Starting (application name)" and then it would close and nothing else would happen. I suspect this is related to the fact that I recently took my Video Card out of my PC and Ubuntu is not detecting my Intel Chip?

(9.10) However as it happened, it was actually incompatible with the usb on my computer an Acer AM5641 desktop. So I opted for 8.10 which works like a charm except for the fact that the restricted drivers for my graphics card (an Nvidia 7900 GS that I installed) don't work. After clicking "enable driver" everything appears to go as normal. Except for the fact that when I restart it, it automatically goes into safe mode, and i can't save it at a higher resolution than 800x600.

Total Linux & Ubuntu noob here Have setup my Dell Dimension 9200 Tower (Pentium 4, 3.2Ghz, 3GB RAM, Nvidea GEForce 9600) with Lucid 32 bit. I'd like to be able to play my 1080p mkv (.264) video library on my Ubuntu system that I use as a media centre.
What is the easiest method to get GPU accelerated video playback for above please ? I have tried the built-in Movie Player, Boxee (which I use for other videos anyway) and VLC - all of which play but with a small amount of stutter - enough to be annoying. As far as I can tell these apps do not use NVidea GPU acceleration. In all cases I have used the defaults provided either by Ubuntu/Boxee/VLC.
Is MPlayer the answer ? BTW I'm a relatively "non-tech-enthusiast" coming from the Microsoft environment. I'm comfortable with DOS command line but have never used Linux command line,
I've loaded 11.04 with Unity on a Dell GX260 test machine (2.4 GHz P4, 1 GB of RAM, 40 GB HD, GeForce 6200 video card). I've tried installing both accelerated video drivers, but Compiz won't start and the Additional Drivers program informs me that the driver is loaded but "This driver is activated but not currently in use." How do I put it into use? There seems to be no switch for that effect in the system controls, and I haven't found any informative posts.

Just installed Ubuntu 11.04, and everything is perfect, except my video card. Ubuntu 11.04 refuses to run my labtops integrated Intel 855GM video card in OpenGL hardware accelerated mode. Everything is really slow/unresponsive compared to earlier versions, windows are rendering painfully slow etc. From what I can gather, problem is, 11.04/newest Compiz is OpenGL 1.4, and my video card only supports 1.3 (?). Now, I have tried downgrading Compiz following this link: [url]
No luck so far.. OpenGL is still software only. Do I need to edit some ini-file or xorg.conf, or am I missing something here?
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
Integrated graphics
PCI graphics
PCI-Express graphics (PEG)
I set the BIOS on PEG, but
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says

There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power.It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector.The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?
I have just installed Ubuntu (9.10) and noted that in order to successfully run the trial off the CD I had to test in "safe graphics" mode. I have an NVIDIA GEforce 6600 GT card - which was discovered by Ubuntu in the first few minutes of the trial and so I activated the recommended driver and continued to test. After a successful trial I installed Ubuntu (dual partition Ubuntu / Windows XP), however, it seems the install didn't activate the required driver (as part of the process) and so I'm unable to get into my newly-installed Ubuntu at all. All I get is a flashing tty screen asking for my username and password - however it's erratic and won't recognise what I type. So - I'm stuck in a catch-22 as there doesn't seems to be a safe graphics mode option via the start (GRUB?) menu list.

The only one I found so far is the AOPEN i45GMt-HD which has the " Intel GMA X4500MHD" for graphics. Apparently this card does support Intel Clear Video under Windows Vista, but not under XP so I fear the Linux support might not be optimal either. Can anyone confirm that hardware accelerated video playback works under Linux with the Intel GMA X4500MHD? No review I found about it seems to mention it.

Well I just got the system installed, and apart from no flash (which I will investigate later) I have an issue with my monitor. It is not detected and has settings as such:
Monitor: Unknown
Resolution: 1280x1024
Refresh rate: 0 Hz
I know my Monitor wich is 19 inches was detected in ubuntu and had a much higher resolution. I'd like to know if this is an all or nothing thing. Meaning if my monitor shows the above settings I am stuck with it or if there is hope. I am at Fedora to lean so I am ready for a fight, but there is just no way I could use the computer as it is...
So where do I begin? Is there any way to manually in some config file put my settings which I am pretty sure I can get from the manufactures site? Or is there some type of hardware detection tool that I can download and run?

Im experiencing choppy graphics on my new F14 install in KDE -- things like scrolling in Firefox, showing/hiding windows, and the equalizer bars in Audacious all being a bit laggy. The card is some kind of onboard intel; the laptop is a Lenovo g550. Here's what lspci says:

View 10 Replies View Related2 days ago I upgraded my f12 system to get the latest updates including the latest kernel (as of Xmas day).When I rebooted it appeared that my graphics drivers didn't work and I was restricted to an 800 by 600 res, but otherwise my system worked okI followed the tutorial in the signature of leigh who often posts on here for installing nvidia drivers, but now when I boot up I just get a black screenduring boot up I get that blue screen with the White fedora logo in the middle, but after that instead of going to the login page; I just get a black screen. There is a cursor where I can type but it's not a command prompt by the look of itis there some way I can boot into safe mode, or to reset the graphics driver so I can get back in?
