I was looking up how to change my login screen to something pretty cool, and I kept seeing GDM pop up. So i have been looking all over my machine to find it, and found a bunch of GDM stuff, but have no idea how to set it up? How can I change my login screen theme??
View 5 RepliesSo, here's the story: I did some messing about with the ambiance-maverick-beta theme and it worked fine, but the login screen, missing the default Ambiance theme, defaulted to Clearlooks. Clearlooks. So, I tried upgrading to Maverick, thinking it would default the login screen to the new themes. No such luck.

i had also added vbox users(i ticked vboxusers) under yast-security and users-user and group management-edit-details to make virtual box work.
i want to check that installed theme so i restarted my laptop.after the restart opensuse taking too long time to boot
note:the login theme also not working.
after the boot i restored defaults in login screen themes.it is also not working.
i don't know which cause this problem(vboxusers or login theme).i am also seeing a root user has been added in my login area.i tried opensuse failsafe also.
I updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?

Does anyone know how I can do this?

openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4 release 2.I can change the desktop theme and the splash theme, but I can not change the KDM login manager theme.First, I changed th setting /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME from suse to nothing in Yast -> /etc/sysconfig editor in order to get rid of the ugly Suse login theme.That resulted in having the traditional KDM login theme with the clock.I go to Personal Settings -> Advanced tab -> System: Login Manager (I enter the root password).In tab "General" I checked "Use themed greeter". Gui style and color scheme are set to default.In tab "Theme" I select a theme, click apply, then clikc ok.I log out and log in again. Nothing has changed. I still have the oldstyle KDM login theme.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI've tried to change the log-in screen on Fedora 15 (gnome3) to have a custom background, however none of the guides I've found have worked - I'm now left with a blue background with no image. They all follow the same instructions as this guide. (I did change the address and PID to my own ones, although the PID was always increasing everytime I typed it) If I type this into the terminal logged in as my user I just get my desktop background changing, although I'm assuming this is correct.

I know that you can change it by going to yast and editing the /etc/sysconfig thinghich I actually tried doing, and failing, which is odd because I changed it once a ltime ago to glassified, but can't manage to do now...) I don't want to use a theme, though, but actually use my current wallpaper and set the settings in the login manager to something of my preference.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter trying to personalize GDM's login screen, I have been able to change the background (If anyone know how to personalize GDM's login screen, Sometimes when I go on the login screen, I see a gray box without anything on it (I try ALT+CTRL+F# and ALT+CTRL+BACKSPACE) but nothing is shown. With the new changes to RHEL 6, and it being more inline with Fedora, how do you change the login screen background? I'm talking about the main login screen, not after you have logged in and need to change the desktop background. We use a custom background for machines in our lab, and need to implement this on 6.

I have 2 questions:
1. How do I edit the fedora/Gnome main menu? When I left click on Applications, etc. I am not given that option.
2. How do I change the login screen?
I tried applying an emerald theme yesterday, and when I did, it somehow affected the login screen, now it looks old and crappy like win98. I tried disabling emerald and even uninstalling it, but the login screen remains crappy, how do I get it back to the way it was?

Ubuntu changed something and I don't what it is (I cant even figure what to search for)
- The first screen is my desktop system->admin->login screen
- The 2nd is what should be there. system->admin->login screen
i used to have 9.10 but now upgraded to the latest version. Back then I changed the background to full black for both the preboot screen and login screen.Now after upgrading it changed it to the purple color screen. I am wondering how I can change back the background color?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.
