View 2 RepliesToday I download a gdm login window theme package, but I don't know how to install it. Results by google searching shows it is very easy on ubuntu by entering System-> Administration -> login window. But I don't find that way on fedora now. The theme package I download is named GDM-BrasillinuxEye.tar.gz . I download it from official web [URL] .

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Debian/GNOME, and I'm running Squeeze and GNOME 2 and I have some questions. How exactly do I change the background image for the login window? I've looked up various suggestions but none of them seem to work - the appearances window does not ever seem to change the background image for the login screen. Also, whenever I log out or when I close the lid on my laptop and it suspends, I am unable to log back in - all I see is a black screen and my cursor, which I can move.

I have a problem with my Fedora 14, only on Fedora 15. Been out of my home for a week, when I arrived home and turned the PC on first thing I made was the update, as usual. But when I reboot or shutdown the PC and when I go to do login, the Fedora get's stuck and doesn't show me the login window to insert my login. Made a clean install and it worked fine, until I made the last updates and it became again, stuck before the login window appears. Is there any update making this? What could be? It must be some update, because when I made the clean install it worked fine, and with the first update also worked fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 on my laptop (Dell Studio model). I have installed fedora 12 onto my machine in the unallocated space, the installation went smoothly. If I login to the fedora directly then every thing works fine. but if I login to Window 7 and again try to re-login into fedora 12 after shutting down the winows 7 then the booting screen will become black (almost invisible) even though I can be able to login and can go to the desktop (which is also very least visible) if i click on suspend and then click on the power button then the screen will become properly visible.

How do I change the window manager? At the moment when my laptop finishes booting I'm presented with a username prompt. There are no other controls of any kind. After logging in I'm using the twm window manager. I would rather be using fvwm. I've tried putting "fvwm" in the files .xinitrc, .xsession, and .Xclients, to no avail.
I have googled this and all the answers involve doing something in Gnome (don't have it), KDE (don't have it), or the clicking a button in the session manager (no buttons). There must be some configuration or script somewhere that it is telling xdm to run twm, but so far I haven't found it.
I tried to install Compiz on F9 Gnome and I added a startup entry (system, preferences, personal, session, startup programs). Now I can't log in to the gnome window manager, it logs in and then logs out again. I would like to remove the entry that I created in the startup programs, but I don't know which file to edit. Where the settings to the System > Preferences > Personal > Session > Startup Programs are stored.

have been trying to figure out the .basrhc files and decided to change some of the permission of those files. The outcome is that, when i restarted the computer, i try to log in as a user but once i typed the name and login only a black screen can be seen, and can not do anything. I restart the computer and try to log in as a root, the same thing.
Next time I restarted the computer and press ctrl+spack+backspace, and for less than 2 seconds i am shown the console windows and then automaticaly comes back to the X windows. It seems that console is crashing too. I am using fedora core 8 and i ve got information that i would not like to loose.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used Ubuntu since 7-4; I now have 10.4. However, in the last week I have been taken to the login screen three times. This could be potentially calamitous. Ctrl+Alt +Backspace have by default been disable since 9-4. There is no way I am pressing atl+Prtscr +K. I wonder if there is a new zap command in 10.4, and if so, how to disable it. I have never found the need to go back back to the login window. I am generally using the command line when doing this.
