I'm using Fedora 15, Gnome Shell. Standard window decoration (Adwaita).
Some applications use one set of colors for drop-down menus; other applications use another set of colors.
Nautilus, e.g., uses a white / bright blue combination. Quodlibet and Firefox both use a greyish blue. see attached screenshots.
Are your Gnome applications also doing this sort of thing in Fedora 15 and Gnome Shell?
this happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt just happened now, I didn't notice if was changed on reboot or now (most likely) but I should have black menus with orange selected area.SOMETIMES (2-3 times now) I get this silver color menus with blue selection.What is the deal there?? Anybody know. I like it black w/ orange!(Running in classic mode in Ubuntu 11.4) I checked my Compiz Icon and Iam still under Compiz in Window Manager. I didn't change anything. On my reboot it will be black menus with orange.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to 10.04, and now I can't figure out how to customize the color of the system drop-down menus (Applications > Accessories, etc.). After I made a change to the appearance, the colors became all washed out (as in the screenshot), and now I can't figure out how to darken the drop-down menus. Anybody have any tips? My ultimate goal is a darkened version of the new Ambiance theme (think XFCE Dusk colors with Ambiance buttons and layout).If it helps, I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04, and I've had KDE, XFCE, and GNOME all installed (and most of each set is still there, as I'm experimenting with each one).Also, the system tray is no longer home to a sound volume button, is it supposed to be that way? How to I get one back up there?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed with the recent version of Ubuntu, 10.10 that the drop down menus, when selected the sub menus doi not appear straight away. I have to repeatedly go up and down the menu until they appear. They often open a blank box and sometime once selected leave the menu on the screen. This happens on all my machines.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is a problem I had in Ubuntu some years ago that just seemed to go away; sporadically I will want to select a website by positioning the cursor over the drop-down arrow to the right side of the url box- after the list is displayed it will vanish immediately when I attempt to position the cursor over it to make a selection. Minimizing then maximizing Firefox resolves it.
A minor problem yes - but it would be nice to not have to deal with it.
The Update Manager told me to update my Firefox. Now the menus do not appear when I click on "File", "Edit" etc. They do not appear with the short-cut keys (Alt-F etc). Nor do the list boxes unroll for the address bar or to select different search engines.

I'm using Lucid lynx and the default FireFox browser that comes with it.
I guess I should note that I don't have problems with drop down menus on other websites.
I am running Lucid Lynx and find that when I look at a page on photobucket that I get different views on chromium 12.0.742.91 and firefox 3.6.18.

Has anyone seen anything like this? I assume that photobucket is using Flash - I have shockwave flash 10.3 r181 from the distro.
I've just scrubbed Windows 7 starter edition and installed Ubuntu 10.10 (netbook?) on an Asus EEE PC 1008HA. When I installed Adobe Reader(9.4.1-1_i486), I do not see any of the menus. It seems to work fine apart from that, but the main reason I want to use it is the "read aloud" functionality. The menus are visible at the top of the screen, "File Edit View Document Window Help" but as soon as I click any of these I just get a grey drop down, with grey writing, so I obviously can't read any of the menus.
I'm happy to use something other than Adobe Reader, but I've tried xpdf (very old) and kpdf (not maintained) and ePDFViewer, but none of these seem to have the "read aloud" functionality. As it happens, currently the read aloud doesn't even work with Adobe Reader, because when I right click and choose Page Display Preferences, all the options for read aloud are greyed out... but I'll probably be able to figure that one out myself if I can get the menus to appear.
fedora 13, Gnome, with the exception of Kdenlive... I need to change to match my gnome theme... I work in a dark environment so I use a dark theme... nearly impossible to use kdenlive as is...
If I remember correctly there was a utility in KDE to make gnome apps look nice, but can't find anything like that for gnome, can't find kcontrol in safe repos for some reason, maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing
In Fedora 14, the colors of the grub boot menu were changed. why, previous versions of the grub boot menu were always the same, that black bar on white letters.
Now suddenly in F14, it was changed to a white bar, on white letters, which is hard to see and looks stupid besides. How do I change those colors back to the old way? the black bar on white lettering?
I have been googling for this topic and I don't see anything in the docs listed for it so decided to ask here.

How do you get to the place to change the screen resolution through the menus in Fedora 13? When I couldn't find it, I ran gnome-display-properties, changed the resolution, restarted, and when it started back up the resolution was not changed!
What is the recommended way to change the screen resolution?
How do we go about changing the login page so that it is not a drop down listing all the users? I'm looking to configure the login to be like how RHEL 5 and below is. Where you have to type in the account name, then it prompts for the password. I don't want the system to show a user history.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on my Gateway LT3103u. I noticed shortly into using it that it has a graphics bug every so often. Especially when I change the background image. Everything will change to a warped mix of colors and pixels. Everything is affected. My mouse, the bar at the top of the screen, text and all. My netbook runs on an AMD Athlon 64-bit processor with ATI Radeon X1270 HyperMemory up to 256MB graphics.
So far I have tried reinstalling, and even the 64bit desktop edition which had the same problem. Ive noticed that it freaks out when i scroll too quick, when changing background images, and on certain websites. Then other times its completely random. When it happens it looks similar to these: [URL]
Now I know that in order to change the colors in your terminal you have to play around with ~/.bashrc But the effects don't stay in place after a change-root is taken affect. It just reverts to black. Is there any way I can change that too in .bashrc?

my problem is that the Applications menu is empty and Preferences and Administration no longer appear under the System menu.I'm running 11.04 and I use Ubuntu Classic because I prefer the GNOME interface. The other day I was trying out various audio/multimedia players so I was installing and uninstalling several programs with the Software Center.
I started to play a CD in Audacious when the system crashed. The screen went dark but the computer kept running. I ended up doing a hard reset. Everything booted up normally and everything seems to run fine except my GNOME menu is messed up. The Applications menu is empty and Preferences and Administration no longer appear under the System menu. (I realize I can get to these through System Settings but I want the menus back) Furthermore alacarte will not run so that I can edit the menu contents.
I've tried using one of the old menu versions in /home/dan/.config/menus but they are all outdated and I cannot edit them. It also doesn't bring back Preferences and Administration.I've tried reinstalling alacarte and that doesn't do anything.I've tried using other panel programs like Docky and AWN but I have the same menu problem.I also tried resetting the panels to defaults but that doesn't fix the problem.
I have opened dolphin and some other application (avidemux, dolphin, firefox,etc). in the first window (dolphin) i have a file. i drag it to another window/application and if i release the left-button of mouse, the window/application of the drag destination become active (raise). is it any way to make it to come in front/top (active) once mouse is over window while still dragging, before releasing the mouse? there is "focus" stings (focus under mouse/raise with the delay) in "windows Behavior". the focus under mouse is working fine, but is not working while dragging. it would be very handy to see where i drop the file, especially if i only see a small partition of the destination window, which is behind other windows.

There is a plethora of apps in the Debian distro -great stuff! Problem is, there is too much to display efficiently in the menus system as currently deployed. I'm thinking particularly of the Science section. Is there a way to rearrange the menus, so that there are sub-menus, such as Astronomy,Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc?

When I booted up from the Live CD before, the tops of the cube were green with a little chameleon. Now, their just cream colored...
In 10.04 Lucid my Nautilus scroll bars are white. The scroll bar slider (the icon that can be moved up and down with the cursor to scroll the window) is the exact same shade of white and the slider outline is pale grey. The lack of color contrast makes the slider hard to see. Is there a preference item somewhere that lets me change this color scheme?
I expected to find it in System >> Preferences >> Appearance >> Theme but I don't think there's anything there about the scroll bars. I think my monitor might be more contrasty than most, which is probably exacerbating the problem, but this is what I have to work with. I would rather fix it by changing a system setting than replacing the monitor.
