Some one hacked my router and change Firmware Version.And user name and password also got change to just admin.
Well now I got a pop up from my Kaspersky saying network attack scan.generic.TCP 74.63.245.168

Some strang things have been happing to my computer in past 4 months and is getting worse.
I have no firewall or router now.And have not gone to the store and get new router yet and I'm thinking of formatting my computer and putting linux and get good firewall like zone-alarm.
my computer has been surely hacked for at least more than two months; my private information are being hacked and spread around! I initally used Windows Vista and I had the firewall off and no antivirus software. When I realized that my OS had been hacked, I began turning my firewall on and installing security softwares, but nothing stopped the hack.
Yesterday, I erased all my partitions and installed Ubuntu 10.10. I installed rkhunter and a firewall. I changed my static IP adress, at least for the sake of knowledge, to another one, then I got disconnected since my router only allows my old IP.
When I'm about to write my admin password, I disconnect from the network. I've scanned my system using rkhunter, and the result is a list of 30 suspicious files!
Can I adjust my router in a way that it can allow any IP adress? If yes, can I have a non-static IP adress? How to prevent the hacking in the first place? However, I believe, I don't know yet, that my Ubuntu has also been hacked...
If I can't get rid of the hacker(s), then I should permanently disconnect from internet and find another way to receive information anonymously through the internet.
tell me the default runlevels in the firewall for the netfs service. I messed with it and rather than enable it, I would like to set it back to default.

Previous to this i had tried installing KDM but it didnt appear to do anything (as in change any of the display management settings) The guide that i was reading to install MAC4LIN just uses GDM so i decided not to pursue KDM anymore. I Get the following read out:

1. /dev/parport0 is not found by sane unless you reset permissions after each boot
2. hplip udev rules only seem to support usb devices.
3. there are no/dev/parport[0-9] rules in udev/rules.d anymore
4. Did I read something about these ports being handled by HAL ACLs? If so, how do you do it?

I have already had Vista installed on another drive and from what i've read on the webs you get to dualboot if you install ubuntu after vista. when i did install it (i installed on a blank hdd with no partitions, choosing the "erase entire disk" option since for some reason default option was attempting to eat a part of my windows 1 gb drive instead of using disk i specially made for it) and the grub 2 loaded for the first time, there was NO option to run vista. only 2 linux (normal and recovery) and 2 memtests. I've ran linux and went to google this. I found that i should add something to some config files in /etc/grub.d/From reading the readme file i understood i could add my own files that are named like NUMBER_SOMENAME and insert code into them. I set up a dhcp server in the lan and assigned static ips to two computers, computer A and B, according to their mac address. Everything was running fine. But when I turned off computer A, connected computer C to the network, and assigned computer A's static ip to computer C without changing dhcp setting. Computer C was able to access the internet. When I turned on computer A, dhcp couldn't assign an ip address to it, and computer C showed an error message of ip conflict and failed to use internet. I wonder if dhcp server is able to prevent other computer from using the same static ip that is already assigned to a computer according to its mac address.

Does someone know if CentOS comes with a firewall by default that would allow SSH connections but nothing else? "ps aux" returned nothing that looked like a firewall process.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 Server on an older desktop with the intent of making it into a firewall box. What I would like to do is hook one nic into the modem, and the other nic into my router. I'm not sure if I want to setup the 2 nics as bridged.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a little trouble setting up a NAT firewall using iptables. I have 1 PC dedicated to being the firewall running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. There are 2 NICs in this PC. One NIC is connected to the modem & the other is hooked into my router, sharing the connection through to the other PC on my LAN. Thing is that I am having troubles setting this up using iptables. I have it sharing the connection, but can't seem to make it forward 2 ports through to my webserver on the LAN. I am also wanting to setup init.d to control iptables. I have been trying to google this, but haven't found anything useful to get this accomplished. I put the following into rc.local to make the forwarding work:

I want to lock down my server to allow only certain ip addresses and ports in. I was thinking of doing this through the iptables but someone sugguested I used the hosts.allow and deny files to allow who can access the system. What do people suggest? If I"m trying to ensure no ip's can access my system except the ones I want, how would I do this with just the allow and deny files?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am behind a university http proxy (squid) server and all of my internet connections have to go through it. I haven't been able to find any setting in Evolution that allows me to specify my proxy settings.
Searching on Google, it suggested that evolution can't work behind proxies and works only with direct connections to the internet.
I wanted to know if there is any way round this problem. I tried posting the same question on gnome list and gnome hacking list and no reply has come so far.

I'm trying to setup my ubuntu sys as a router and firewall... Internet -> Ubuntu (Router) -> Switch (no DHCP on it) -> Computers I've already setup bind and dhcp3 and got those working perfectly... I've also setup Squid3 and Dansguardian for content filtering (blocking ads and such) and got them working too... I want to set it all up to be transparent, and allow the system itself to function as a powerful firewall router, giving absolutely NO issues to client computers connected, and no speed reduction at all.... I want to setup the firewall to allow all outgoing connections, but block everything incoming (stealth the network)... Forcing all http/s traffic to pass through dansguardian, then to squid...
But am very confused on how to pull this off... The system is running Ubuntu 10.10 Server 64-bit, with 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB SSD, and two 1Gb NIC cards... Sorry if I'm not very clear, I do speak english perfectly, but just kinda new to the "Linux world", I was using SONICWALL but that's getting a little too costly to my network and wanna do a free alternative... Something completely CUSTOM, not using some network security distro.
So what I want to do is setup a gateway(or router, idk what Ubuntu refers to it as.). So my set up would be Modem>Server>Switch>Router. I know that I need to set up it up as a DHCP server as well. I would also like to setup it up as a firewall too. I already have two Gbit cards that are already configured. So how do I do this? I already tried one tutorial, but it was old and was for Debian. When I have tried installing mysql it keeps coming up with the same fault yet again segment fault. I even get this stupid error when trying to install postgresql:

Its got nothing to do with my connection at all keeps happening at home, work when I use my vmWare server, I have a netinstall of FC10 so I am going back to that.
If anyone can help me in using a better method of making yum work, then thats brilliant but one final try and one error I am going back, this is a major rant as I am working for clients now and this just isnt suitable, if FC10 does this then I am going to a different dist like CentOS or something more robust as this is just rediculous!

I have Linux computers that are often on client networks inside firewalls . They have access to the internet but I can't access them directly. I don't want to have to get the client to mess with NATing , etc . I have written a system that uses XMPP to allow me to send commands to the computers and run simple console commands which often time is enough. These are things like run a report and ftp up to server, restart a process, give me a process list. It works OK, but some networks even block this (Googletalk is not universally loved for some reason)
I am wondering if there is a prebuilt system that allows me a computer inside one firewall (say a standard adsl modem created one) communicate in some way with a computer inside a network created by another adsl modem. I could see some sort of console like logmein or pc anywhere but as much as I have looked I can't find anything. I have considered writing a cheap and cheerful system in http or even a TCP system using asyncore in python but there must be something existent. I have a server on the web that could be used as an intermediary, relay type thing. Basically some sort of chat server for consoles is what I am thinking about. Is there some sort of SSH voodoo that I could bridge/tunnel/vpn through.
I have a computer which has a public IP.My ISP has allowed only port 22 for my machine to be accessed outside from internet.I want rest of my computers which are connected to this machine be accessible via SSH on internet.I can configure IPTABLES to route different ports to internal machines but since ISP has given only one port for the gateway how can I go for it any guesses. I came across some thing reverse SSH tunneling but that has to keep the connection alive all the time at gateway I want my trusted people to be directly able to access the machines on LAN to which they have account to login in this scenario.
