I am trying to get samba going on Fedora 12 ( a virtual machine...).When I use system-config-samba I get a crash when I try to addme as a user...Is there a basic tutorial for getting a samba server properly configured
I have successfully deploy/configured the Ubuntu PDC and connected Windows XP too. Its all working fine.. but now I wana to connnect Ubuntu Desktop to same Ubuntu PDC. I have changes in SAMBA, as per required for joining Domain and execute the <net join MyDomain -u root> to its all fine. No error. But How to Login? On startup there is nothing like option for selecting Domain or Workgroup..
After installatiion, if you find that you can't connect to your box over ssh, you might find that the service has not been started. Start it with the following from a root prompt: /etc/init.d/sshd startIt will then proceed to create the needed keys forecuring connections and proceed to start the service allowing connections.
I am using F14 installed from DVD, updated to the latest bugfixes for all packages; I also have the nvidia proprietary drivers installed.I have configured my gnome-screensaver using gnome-screensaver-preferences to have a delay of one hour before it blanks the screen. However, no matter the settings I choose (even testing with only a 1 minute delay) the screensaver always kicks in at the 10 minute mark. This persists no matter the graphics driver I use.The only means by which I can stop the screen from locking while watching videos online is to kill the gnome-screensaver daemon. What information should I provide to assist in determining why this is happening? It's very aggravating. I'll include my current xorg.conf in the event that it may help.
This problem has been there since I upgraded to FC12 from FC11 (I use Gnome). There are two applications that launch automaticaly when I logon:A nautilus window pointed at computer:////RythmBox minimized to notification panel. And they aren't in System/preferences/startup applications
fedora.local = F14 default mingisapsycho.local = Mac OS X 10.6.4
I want to be able to ssh/scp between these two machines using:
ssh -l login fedora.local and ssh -l login mingisapsycho.local
rather than using IP addresses. Neither of these works, from either of the two machines. This does work between Mac OS machines. And I can ssh if I use IPs. So it seems that by default Avahi is not configured even though it is running? I really don't understand. By "does not work" I mean I get on both machines: ssh: Could not resolve hostname blah.local: Name or service not known
I'm having problems with my route rule in Firewall, I have two links that are working, and set the firewall to use multiple links at once. What has happened is that when i look the IPs of the clients, (its have for default the route to Link 2), they are changing or losing the rule route for link 2 and have in Explorer the Link 1 in any site for show me ip address, then after some seconds back to normal. And the firewall is not configured to do routing load balancing. What can be? Exist some configuration of kernel to accept this configuration ? Like ip route source or anything ?
I wish to prevent the samba messages (mainly nmbd and winbindd) from appearing in the system log (/var/log/messages). I want to allow samba logging to the standard samba logfiles, but prevent the syslog getting clogged up by samba. I added syslog = 0 to smb.conf and reloaded the config but the messages were still appearing. I also tried the following (and restarted the syslog via /sbin/service syslog restart) # Suppress messages from samba.
For interests sake the messages I'm getting are below (I'm not concerned about the messages themselves, I can chase them up at my leisure via the samba logs) Mar 18 09:58:29 SERVER nmbd[3808]: query_name_response: Multiple (2) responses received for a query on subnet xx.yy.z.zz for name DOMAIN<1d>. Mar 18 09:58:29 SERVER nmbd[3808]: This response was from IP xx.yy.z.zz, reporting an IP address of xx.yy.z.zz.
I want to use samba for file sharing like on a Windows home network. Actually they are all Linux machines but nfs is too complicated. On my host machine I installed samba and system-config-samba. I created a new share for /home, check marked writable and visible and put access to everybody. For preferences-->server settings--> security the "authentication mode" is set to user, encrypt passwords is no, and guest account is no guest account. Under preferences-->samba users I added myself as a user with the same windows user name as my Linux user name and the same password.
My client is a virtualbox fedora (used for testing purposes but actual clients will be real computers on my home network). I entered the address smb://192.168.1.184. When asked for the user name and password I put my regular user name and password since that was what I set in samba users. However, the password dialog keeps coming up and won't let met into my own computer. If I quit it says something like access is denied. How can I get my home network back? I liked this feature when my home computers ran XP but I switched them to Fedora 12.
I seem to be missing some step(s) for getting an interface to appear in the output of ifconfig and iwconfig for a RT2870 wireless USB 802.11n adapter (made by Panda Wifi). Let me step you through what's I've done thus far.
After plugging the device in, it's low-level identification is as follows (see bold):
root@xps720# lsusb Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:0b06 Logitech, Inc. Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870 Wireless Adapter Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Just installed the LXDE spin of 13 onto my acer aspire netbook. Couldn't make a usb boot stick, finally succeeded with an external card reader and unetbootin. Anyway, GXine isn't working, though it says its configured correctly. I'm very new to fedora and linux in general, played a bit with ubuntu 9.10.
I've been trying to update Fedora 15 for weeks. I always end up with a transaction error and the update stalls. The error reads: GPG keys listed for RPM Fusion for Fedora Rawhide-free repository are installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key urls are configured for this repository. This is far too involved for a linux newbie, I think my only option is to reformat and reinstall. This is so frustrating, there are 250 MB of updates available that I can't access.
OK I've figured out to to set up a VPN, by clicking on the Networking Icon and clicking VPN Connections->Configure VPN and setting up the details... but how to I actually USE the VPN I set up??? I thought it would appear in the VPN Connections but no the only things in there are Configure VPN and Disconnect VPN!
UPDATE: Nevermind.. I rebooted and it appeared in the VPN Connections as expected
We recently upgraded our Samba server from Fedora 10 to Fedora 12. After the upgrade, when users connect to a Samba share from their Windows PCs, they can no longer see the symlinks in the share like they used to under Fedora 10.We are using the same smb.conf file as under Fedora 10, so I'm not sure what has changed.
I have update my linux server from mandriva 9 to mandriva 2010
I was working using samba 2.2.8 and now I have samba 3.5.3.I have transfer all passwd and smbpasswd to new linux.I have convert smbpasswd to tdbsam
when i am using win xp to logon on samba domain the windows XP does not load profiles from samba. I think that the problem is NTUSER.DAT storing in /home/user/profile
The same profile is working using samba 2.2.8 but not working in samba 3.5.3..
I have to rename a group of machines in my little samba domain (tbd backend) but there is an ugly bug that makes this impossible. have set 'rename user script' variable corectly, also checked all configurations. When i change computer name in my windows box, it shows an error saying something like "Error calling remote procedure"Looking on server side, username for the machine gets correctly changed in /usr/passwd, and also in samba database. But samba log says:
=============================================================== [2009/10/08 11:10:32, 0] lib/fault.c:fault_report(42) INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 11052 (3.0.33-3.7.el5_3.1)
can KMail be configured to have two different accounts and keep one tree of folders for each, like Seamonkey?

I have an ARM system that has been pre-loaded with some variant of Linux. I don't know the distribution; I can only see the kernel number in dmesg.
In /etc/network/interfaces, I set eth0 to auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp
After I save and reboot (or run ifdown eth0 followed by ifup eth0), I can see that the networking system is searching for a DHCP server and actually obtains a lease on a valid IP address, but when I run ifconfig, the interface has not been assigned the address that it pulled down from DHCP. It has been assigned a 192.168.. address.
I noticed in dmesg that a variable "ip" is passed to the kernel at boot with the same address that is overriding my DHCP address. How can I disable this overriding behavior? I noticed a dynamic environment variable in u-boot called ip. I set it dhcp and saved it to nv storage, but the problem persisted. I tried to set the u-boot environment variable ipaddr to dhcp, but was informed that this wasn't a valid value for the variable. How can I get the interface to be configured through DHCP?
I installed envyng using Synaptic Package Manager and when it finished I used CTRL+ALT+F1 and went through the steps on setting up the ATI driver, there was only 1 driver for my card in the list to choose from so I went for that, I then rebooted when prompted me to do so.
Just before It's about to goto the login window my screen flashes a couple of times then it throws me an error:
Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode
The following error was encounted. You may need to update your configuration to solve this.(EE) No devices detected.
What would you like to do?
* Run ubuntu in low-graphics mode for just one session * Reconfigure graphics * Troubleshoot the error * Exit to console login
My card is a Radeon 7000 AGP (Yes very old hehe) anyone know the the fix for this?
I just did an 11.04 install onto a thinkpad w520 with 16 GB RAM. free - m shows 3.5GB (as does top)
browsing help/forums it seems the 11.04 installer should have detected my RAM and installed the proper kernel.
everything functionally seems great, just missing most of my RAM. I went with 32 bit ubuntu because most people (including canonical on their download page), recommend it. I may move to 64 bit, but would like to solve this for 32 bit first.
