Ubuntu :: Can't Access Apache From The Internet

Feb 15, 2011

I can access dirac.org from inside my network; I can't access it from outside my home network. Apache is running on a Ubuntu box named "satan": 192.168.0.2 and I'm testing it from a MS Windows machine named "lucifer": 192.168.0.3. My ISP is optimum online, which does not filter port 80.

0. router
The router is a Netgear WNDR3700. All computers on my LAN receive their IP addresses via DHCP, but I've reserved all the IP addresses, so they are essentially static (satan is always 192.168.0.2, lucifer is always 192.168.0.3, etc). The router is set up to pass packets destined for port 80 to satan (192.168.0.2), which is where Apache runs.

1. tcpdump
Using tcpdump when accessing dirac.org from within the LAN (this is what works):
# tcpdump -i eth0 host ool-18bda2d2.dyn.optonline.net and tcp port 80
ool-18bda2d2.dyn.optonline.net.2826 > satan.www: Flags [S], seq 3934453911, win 65535, options [mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK], length 0

Server :: Can't Get On Internet / Apache Is Running / Httpd Is Not

Feb 11, 2011

When I do " ps aux | grep apache " I can see that apache2 is running. But when I do the same thing for http or httpd there is nothing. I looked for this question in the forums but couldn't find it. I probably don't know just what to look for.I'm using the new Debian Squeeze, and was fooling around heavily with new software installations and modifications, and just noticed all of a sudden that I couldn't get on the internet - so I know I did something but don't know what.I can plug in a thumb drive with a bitnami joomla stack on it and run, " ~/tmp/joomla-1.6.0-0/./ctlscript.sh start "and that gets things going for the joomla stuff (apache, http, mysql, php), but that stuff is pretty self contained and does not effect the browser's attempt to reach the web.

CentOS 5 Server :: Allow Apache To Access The Internet?

Apr 21, 2009

We have Apache installed on CentOS 5.3 in our laboratory. Indeed the server is running fine for almost two years since it is actually the first CentOS 5 that was released just regularly updated. Now, most of our applications are custom made PHP applications and until now we somehow managed to avoid using PHP to fetch files that are on the internet itself. But now we are desperate because we need to allow PHP to fetch files through Apache but it seems as if Apache is not allowed to make a connection to the outer world. Additionally we use a proxy server to connect to the outer world so right at the beginning http_proxy is used to set that environmental variable. And for the root user it all works fine after that but it seems as if the apache user is not allowed to access the internet. Just to make a remark our web server can be accessed from the outer world so its a one way street for now.

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache -> Squirrelmail Not Accessible From Internet

May 4, 2010

I set up a mail server today. Everything works except I can't access the damn squirrelmail web interface from the internet.

I followed this guide here: [URL]

I can access http://192.168.0.50/squirrelmail just fine from a computer on my local network.

*BUT*

When I access http://mywanip/squirrelmail, i get a connection timeout.

When I access http://mywanip, I get the standard Apache "IT WORKS!" Page. (Rules out port forwarding)

According to the guide, that should allow me to access squirrelmail from the internet on my server. Its as if Squirrelmail is only available on my local interface and not on my wan interface? How do I check?

Ubuntu Networking :: No Internet Connectivity - Cannot Access Pages In Apache

Nov 9, 2010

I can connect to anything locally, I can SSH in locally but nothing works from outside my network (can't access pages in apache, can SSH, etc.) I've checked the logs I can think of, but what should I be looking for? The last thing I did today was add a FW rule to log and drop from an IP, saved my iptables to a file in /etc. (this was at 10:45am). The last time I successfully logged in remotely 1:03pm. I connected multiple times in between. I've rebooted remotely once or twice. That's it. I've already flushed iptables.

Ubuntu Networking :: Using Network Manager PPTP Client While Accessing SSH / Apache From Public Internet

Oct 27, 2010

I've searched the forums (250 thread limit) for a fix on this, but all the questions seem unanswered or unrelated. My situation is this: I'm running Ubuntu x64 10.10 'Maverick'. I have a cablemodem connection for my Internet access. I have home network running on DD-WRT with the dreadful Linksys WRT54G series router.

My DD-WRT router is 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0.
My Linux box is 192.168.1.61, subnet 255.255.255.0.

I have a VyprVPN connection set up successfully on Linux. Mostly everything works great, speed's fine, latency is what I expect it to be. Except... I also run an SSH server to remotely admin the box at port 22, an Apache server running over SSL at port 7001, and a Transmission web client at port 7002 (only secured by basic HTTP realms auth). All of these things worked before I got the VPN working, I'm of course using NAT at the DD-WRT router.

The endresult I am looking for, is to have the security and protection of the VPN (even if it's only perceived) for everything I do on this machine -- EXCEPT on Apache, the Transmission web panel, and the SSH server, which I want to access from the outside world. I have no firewalls running or configured, not even iptables, not even the SPI firewall on DD-WRT. All connections to the aforementioned services from the outside world timeout coming in to the Linux box. They all work from inside my home network (182.168.1.0/24). In case it's needed, he's my routing:

Server :: Tunnel Apache Virtual Host To An Internal Apache?

Jan 24, 2010

I am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.

However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?

This only happens when I run code associated with acid the IDS Console I am trying to setup. The apache test page is okay and so is the php test page.

Fedora Servers :: CentOS 5.2 - Apache And New PHP

Feb 7, 2009

I've installed a server (CentOS5.2) - and I need a new(er) PHP, so, I get me one. This is what I did:
- unzipped the bundle in the root's home
- of course, I entered the folder
- entered "./configure"
- entered "make" - the compile didn't come back with errors
- entered "make test" - there was a _possible_ fail...
- entered "make install"

I noticed there's nothing in the /libs, where I'd expect a module (lib5php5.so) to exist. there is one, but it belongs to the older PHP. It's located in ets/httpd/modules (a link BTW - but I think that's normal). At the console I type:
"which php" and get a path to PHP /usr/local/bin/php
"php --version" and get 5.2.8 and some extra info
in the server I entered "<?php phpinfo(); .>" in a PHP page, as I call that page, I get ... 5.1.6 as version.

Of course, I suspect Apache to have the OLD PHP in its config, (the old lib5php.so) and that I may have to overwrite the old one with the newly compiled one, if I had it. I ran a locate on the system, but no other lib5php.so files exist. Where did I loose track?

Fedora :: Php Apache Superglobals 403 Forbidden?

Jan 3, 2010

I am trying to get an internal webserver running and I am having issues with php. When I make a file (index.php) it runs perfectly. I can use PHP superglobals for the most part but the minute I use 'name' (ex: 'index.php?name=someone') I get a 403 forbidden. I thought for a while that it was something with all superglobals but if i change the code to use another variable it works fine.

works: ('index.php?person=fedora')
Code:
<?php
echo 'Hello ' . $_GET['person'] . '!';
?>
403 forbidden: ('index.php?name=fedora')

[Code]...

I have no idea if this is a apache issue, a php issue or something else random. I disabled SElinix in attempts to fix this, changed the owner and group to me and root and nothing seemed to have any effect. I also checked the document permissions in the httpd.conf and they all look correct.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Downgrading Apache From 2.2 To 2.0 On CentOS 5

Apr 15, 2009

I'm attempting the lovely task of uninstalling Apache 2.2 and installing Apache 2.0 on CentOS 5. This is because of my original task of installing RSA web agent which only works with Apache 2.0. I also am not allowed to just install CentOS 4. I uninstalled Apache 2.2. Attempted to install Apache 2.0 (with rpm) and got multiple dependency errors. I installed the dependencies (and sometimes their dependencies including a little dance around some circular dependencies). Then I installed Apache 2.0 with no errors. However Apache failed to start.

Here is the error:
httpd: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libaprutil-0.so.0: undefined symbol: gdbm_errno.
Please don't tell me it "seems like you're missing your gdbm libraries." I'm not. I'm assuming I'm having a version incompatibility issue between gdbm and libaprutil. I just don't know what version of which I need to make Apache 2.0 happy. I tried uninstalling gdbm and installing an older version but I still have the same problem. Another option is to uninstall my openldap package (2.3.13-2) which I just installed and install an older version of that but again don't know which version is right.
