Fedora :: After The Installation Of XFCE The Audio Does Not Work Anymore?
Jun 9, 2011I'm using Fedora 15, I have installed XFCE and now I do not have audio in both XFCE and Gnome. The external DAC is found but does not emit a sound.

View 2 RepliesAfter the last updates (in which there was also the 2.6.35.28 kernel) my audio isn't working anymore. When i open an audio file, it goes foreward with steps like 5 secondos and i can't listen nothing. Videos i can see, but with no audio, and ..... videos go at like 2x speed (and also here no audio). I tried booting with the 2.6.35.27 kernel, but doesn't change anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike for instance, if I have Ubuntu Lucid Lynx installed with XFCE, and it has an applications made for XFCE. will the applications also work on say some other distro like, Wolvix, that is an XFCE-based distro~????
What I am trying to say is: Do applications that are made for XFCE, work on ANY distro that has XFCE installed?
I don't know why this happen. In Slackware 13 it worked fine.
This is the output:
Code:

I've been using fedora for about 2 years, and i recently bought a new laptop. After using a usb mouse my toughpad no longer works? Now it works on login but after login touchpad input is gone.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI already had solved the problem [URL].. but after several yum updates it has appeared again. Within the script "/etc/ppp/ip-up" the sixth parameter isn't provided. But the sixth parameter should be "ppp0" (in this case). The script sets it into the variable $LOGDEVICE and passes it as first parameter to annother script. Successfully I had patched "/etc/ppp/ip-up". I would like to report a bug but I'm not sure if it is a wvdial or a ppp/pppd or a Fedora 14 bug.
Now (after several yum patch updates) my patched /etc/ppp/ip-up doesn't help anymore. The registration at the mobile phone provider seems to be ok but the internet connection isn't initialized.
According the man pages wvdial starts ppp or pppd and one of them seems to call /etc/ppp/ip-up. At which point in the subprocessed scripts (under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/) I didn't find out yet.
My network printer does not work anymore. What can I do now I have an Lexmark Z617 printer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust before Lucid was released, I installed karmic on a vanilla VM in 64-bit mode, and all was good. Did a desktop setup and afterwards installed Eclipse, and I was happy: A new system for coding on-the-go! Now, after upgrading to Lucid with do-release-upgrade -d, I can no longer enter my password on X login. The keyboard just doesn't work for some reason. When I enable the onscreen keyboard, and click my password, I can login. The strange thing is that my keyboard works like a charm after I've logged into my X session?

I partitioned it using the Acronis (proprietary) partitioning software. I've had to move these around a bit when I initially set it up and at one point grub didnt work anymore. It was after I had to expand my Windows (7) partition. However I'm told that most modern software dont use the same unit of measurement that fdisk still uses 'til this day. Should I even be concerned? I did have to reinstall grub after I initial set all my partitions up. This post is merely a double-check to make sure.
I recently installed Fedora 15 x86_64 on my new AMD Machine and I'm quite pleased with things thus far. Here's where my problem comes. I mainly bought that machine to help me with Development. More specifically, Virtual Machines for testing purposes. I have installed Fedora 15 x86_64 as a qemu-kvm Virtual Machine and it's working.. for the most part. I am having a whole lot of trouble getting it to connect to the Internet.
My guess is the only way I'm going to reliably do that is to setup a Bridge. Yes/no? However, in order to setup a Bridge I need to disable NetworkManager and that where the fun happens. It completely disables my network connection. I'm probably missing something small, but I can't figure out what I'm missing. I've double checked my ifcfg-em1 multiple times(I've been trying for ~24 hours so far) and all the settings are as they should be.
I've turned NetworkManager off and stopped it(chkconfig and service) and turned network on(chkconfig and service). Theoretically I should simply need to turn off NM and turn on network and things should be fine. no?
Well, aside from adding:
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLED=no
to ifcfg-em1.
I was wondering what most xubuntu users use to play audio CDs in XFCE. My wife's laptop runs XFCE, and I had a time this last weekend getting it to actually play a CD correctly. It had been configured to load CDs in "listen" audio player, but as far as I can tell listen doesn't even play CD audio. There was nothing in the menu that allowed loading a disc.I tried setting it to Totem, which worked ok until the first track ended. It then stopped, and there was no way to make it continue and play the second track, or get a track listing. Odd, since it has an option for audio CD in the menu.Next I tried mplayer, which worked for a while, but had to be started from the command line since I couldn't get a disc to load from the GUI. After a couple of attempts at this, mplayer locked up the whole desktop.
Next I tried VLC, since it usually sweeps in and saves the day when all else fails. Aside from the annoyance of having to make about six to eight clicks to get an audio CD playing, it did work except that the audio skipped badly and after a few minutes it just died and wouldn't play any more.I finally found a program that worked: KSCD. It's a KDE application designed solely for the purpose of playing audio CDs, and it worked flawlessly.I don't have a problem running KDE apps on XFCE if I have to, but I just think it's odd I had so much trouble getting a program that would reliably do something so straightforward and standard, and wondered if I'd missed something obvious that would have been a better solution.
Operating system : OpenSuse 11.2
Desktop environment : Xfce 4.6
Kernel : Default
All other CD's do get detected on the above mentioned platform on my laptop, but the 4 new Audio CD's I've brought do not get detected there.
By detection I mean:
i. No icon is shown on the desktop.
ii. ls -R /media/ shows nothing.
Those Audio CD's do get detected on a different laptop with OpenSuse 10.3 with Kde 3.5.7 on it !!
Kindly let me know if I need to give more information regarding the above problem.
During my two previous installation, I almost never try to include or exclude package during the process. I want to know if I only want to install XFCE as my only DE, how can i do it during the installation progress (I Know i can install both, or even with KDE, but I also know that i can do it later should I change my mind)?
Second question is, if I install only XFCE, what will I miss ?(no, not the gnome feature, but maybe fedora distro(gnome) specific tool or something). Last word, no I'm not asking what feature of gnome is absent in xfce nor which DE is better, so don't start it.
I've a rented dedicated server with (presumably) no window manager installed. How would I go on about installing Xfce? (the ultimate goal is being able to VNC into it)I checked but that seems to assume you already have a window manager, so I was a bit wary of just trying it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I log in, I get the following notification from Phonon: The audio playback device does not work. Falling back to RV635 Audio device [Radeon HD 3600 Series] Digital Stereo (HDMI) and of course, I get no sound.
Sound is integrated Intel HD "82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller" (courtesy of lshw), and it did work before, it just seems to have appeared suddenly out of nowhere, I can't even tell when and whether it's connected to any updates or other configuration changes.
I am trying to split up partition between Windows and Linux...I'm trying out a few distros for my wife's laptop. I have Live CD's of the latest Fedora and Xubuntu. Started off with Xubuntu and the live CD detected everything very well so I installed it a split up the drive between it and vista using the install manager.
Windows is fine, but after logging into the default Kernel (generic etc..) it doesn't load the actual Xfce desktop, but just leaves me at the command promp ttyl I think. I tried to run "startxfce4" and got an error that no drivers were detected.
There's also a error when I first boot up that something couldn't be mounted. I'll re-post the error info in full when I get back, but where should I get started? How do I get into the actual desktop environment? I also can't get into root, as I don't know what the default password is, so I can't install anything.
I am not having a lot of good fortune with Xfce, this time. The LiveCD had a kernal error, and after doing an install, the update chokes on dependency errors. I tried unchecking the problem update files, but then I ended up in a loop that I couldn't find what else was causing these problems. This doesn't seem to be a big problem listed in this forum, so how do I resolve this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Karmic since November and standby/sleep has always worked fine. Some weeks ago, it stopped working fine.
After a reboot, I can put the system in standby only once. If I try standby after that, the system seems to do a normal standby, but it resumes at the moment the fans would normally stop working.
I tried different things like the s2ram program, pmi action sleep, etc. I went to the BIOS and tried a number of things, one was succesfull: disable USB. When USB is disabled I can go into standby every time. When I enable USB again (even with no devices connected), standby only works once again.
So, how can I disable USB at the moment I go into standby?
I can't get my SAT card to work anymore for I'm installed 10.04.It worked fine under 9.10.Any idea how I can debug or solve the issue.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIf i use my Ubuntu some times per week, there isn't any problem. But if i don't use it for a short time (a week), when i want use it again and select it on GRUB.. after the first loading screen (on Ubuntu 10.04 the purple screen with Ubuntu in white and some points under), my screen is black. The computer screen is receiving signal because the led is green and not brown/orange like when is on standby mode. On Windows i haven't any problem.
First time it happened with Ubuntu 9.10. I didn't got solution for it and i format the partition and install the 10.04. But now it happen again with 10.04. I have an ATI 5770 and i have tried drivers since 9.12 till 10.4 (last ones the best i have had) On versions before 9.10 i had no problem, but i can't confirm that, because i had other graphic card (NVIDIA 9800GT). But the 5770 didn't work well on previous version so i updated to 9.10 and after this problem, updated to 10.04.
At spanish forum, people don't know solution for this problem, they never read about a similar problem. I hope you know a solution for it, because the only one i found and work is.. format and reinstall.
without any warning, mouse clicks stopped having any effect. I can move the cursor without a problem. No apps are frozen and I can type at the command line. But mouse clicks have no effect. The same mouse was working fine before and it works fine in Windows. When I look in /var/log/messages, I see:ondemand governor failed, too long transition latency of HWfallback to performance governor [OK]I don't know if this is significant or not. The mouse is connected via USB. I'm running Lucid Lynx with all of the latest updates.
