I have just installed VirtualBox under F15 and would like to start it from the applications window instead of from a terminal as I am now doing.How do I add it to the applications menu?

Last time I had both installed, the menu ended up being a bit of a mess.
Some minimized apps no longer appear in the top menu and by that are no longer accessible.For example firefox with the minimize addon or Jungel Disk backup service.How can I reach apps that minimized them self and are not shown in the top menu?

I want the Dutch hunspell dictionary, but you fill out the right language for the language support you want: # yum install hunspell-nl
This will install the dutch hunspell dictionary or the dictionary of your choice. After you installed this dictionary it will be immediately available in gnome apps and Evolution.
I've been mostly using XFCE for a long time, but I'm finally giving KDE4 a serious try. Overall I like it pretty well, but there's one thing I like in XFCE that I can't replicate in K: I want to be able to right-click on the desktop to bring up the full apps menu. On XFCE the default behaviour is that right-clicking anywhere on the desktop background (anywhere not on a window, basically) will bring up the full "Start" menu with all the app categories, preferences/settings, etc. (I put "Start" menu above in quotes because I know that's really Windows-specific terminology. So no need to give me crap about that, kids.) Right now, when I right-click on the desktop in K I get a small menu with Konsole, Run, Activities, and Desktop Settings. What I want to happen is a full launcher menu like I have on the panel.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed fedora 15, I haven't seen fedora since version 7 back in 2007, and I must say, it's very impressive.I can't however figure out how to add a downloaded application, like Intellij-Idea to the activities menu. With the old gnome, you could just create a task bar short cut to any .sh and give it a png icon, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do the same for activities. Searching online doesn't help, since all I seem to find is how to add or remove packages, with the UI, which I would never do to begin with, as I am a command line person. But for some reason, I am quite impressed with this activities menu thing, and I want to use it on the laptop
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Fedora 11 onto my computer on top of Linux Mint. Originally I was using Mint's bootloader, but I'm ditching Mint soon for another OS so I'm migrating to Fedora's bootloader to make the transition easier. For a while I couldn't get Mint to appear on Fedora's Grub menu, but during that time I could still access the internet on Fedora. However, once I successfully added Mint to Fedora's grub menu, the wireless suddenly stopped working on Fedora (though it still works on Mint.) I can connect to the network on Fedora but it gives me the awesome "host does not exist" message when I try to ping anything. Any insight as to why this might have happened after I managed to successfully boot Mint from the Fedora boot menu?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed GNAT GPS and would like it to display under Applications->Programming drop down menu. How does one do this? I have read about creating a .desktop file but tried that and it still does not appear under the menu I like. It does appear on the desktop but not because of the .desktop file.

When I try to open some file, including directories, "Open with..." window appears.
i am having a problem on Ubuntu 10.10. In system menu, there is no Administration or Preferences menu.Also, application menu does not show anything. I am using Ubuntu since 2 weeks and still not used to to the terminal commands for running applications and admin tools.
one more thing.When i booted my PC today it reported an error and process terminated before reaching the login window. So i restarted and chose recovery mode. it also reported some errors and tried to fix the problem. it deleted some files i think. and my system is working again but with above mentioned problem.
I am running FC12 x86_64 with KDE 4.3.3 using an NVidia GeForce 9600 graphics card. I installed the drivers followings leigh's procedure and everything works fine -- apart from the fact that clicking the the "f" button to bring up the K menu takes between 8 and 10 seconds. Same thing happens if I select anything from the K desktop pop-up menu, like the Konsole or the run command for example. I disabled desktop effects but this had no impact.

The multimedia hotkeys (play/pause, stop, volume up/down, volume mute, ecc) stop working when i open any menu (for example mintmenu, that i use, or any menu of firefox like bookmarks) or if i start an application, such as openarena. The major problem is for volumes keys, that stop working in these cases.
Any ideas? I tried to change keyboard model, disable hotkeys mapped in prefereces->keyboard shortcut (with this they just stop working), but nothing changed.

I can't seem to get the Menu - File - Send Link to work nothing happens.
Also for Preferred Applications the only thing available for the Mail Reader is the choice custom. I removed Evolution earlier.
I suspect that if I populate the Mail Reader with the proper command line it should fix my problem.
I am using CentOS LiveCD i386 without internet access. I would like to make the application sys_basher, but make is not installed and I cannot find how to add packages without yum.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI like Unity, and I appreciate Canonical's work in making the desktop cleaner-looking and more intuitive.I think that being able to customize the top/application(?) panel would be very powerful. By this, I mean both adding and removing indicators.I guess the developers are aware of this, and it's easier said than done. I don't know.Personally, I miss the weather and CPU temperature applets of the old Gnome layout.I tried to apply the best guide I've found to modifying the top panel, to no avail.
After I followed the instructions for the addition of three different indicators (weather, cpu frequency and CPU and RAM % usage), my top panel remained the same.I don't know whether the indicators should show up right away or only upon restart. Opensuse 11.3 with kde 4.4.xx
Having a problem with the menu font colour in GTK apps (firefox & thunderbird).
All menus in all other apps have the correct font colour (black) but as you can see in this screenshot the font colour is white for thunderbird.
The only way I can find to change the text to black is to change in Configure Desktop > Appearance > Colours The setting for "selected text" to black.
Now I could be wrong - but I am pretty sure this should not be the setting that effects the menu colour in GTK apps.

Using QTCurve window style Have also set GTK Style and Fonts to use QTcurve and KDE font settings.
I do remember QTCurve in Opensuse had a button to apply its settings to KDE3 & GTK apps but this is not present in the QTCurve version on 11.3
get a list of most used apps at the bottom of the application menu. Also documents, why not.
