When using firefox, if I use my arrow keys in the keyboard to scroll through the Window, it works only if the mouse pointer is inside the window. Otherwise, the scroll doesn't work. Is there any way to solve this problem?
It's not just the arrow keys, even the TouchPad scroll on my laptop also.
This is a weird problem I am facing right now. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) Firefox 3.6.3. The tab key, the arrow keys and the page down / up keys dont work anymore. They're working fine in any other application, like Chrome.
The keys were fine till yesterday and suddenly they have stopped responding.
I'm using rxvt-unicode version 9.06 at Ubuntu 9.10. I was used to aterm, where you can use SHIFT + up/down arrow to scroll the printed output with a line up or down. You can also use SHIFT + pgup/pgdown to scroll one screen up or down.In urxvt I can use the pgup/pgdown combination as well, but can't use the up/down arrow combination. It is very useful to be able to scroll by single lines. Do you have any idea how to enable the up/down arrow scrolling?

I am having a lot of problems with hitting the arrow keys while typing. At least, I think that's what it is. Maybe the page up/down/back buttons, too. Is there a way to disable one or more keys on the keyboard via software, other than going into BIOS? It's getting annoying having to retype stuff over and over. I guess maybe I'm just not used to my new keyboard, is all. But I never use those buttons and likely never will.

When playing games, both for Linux and through wine, the game will respond as if the up and left arrow keys are being constantly held down.
It acts like this in Cave Story (Linux version), Sonic Adventure DX Directors Cut: Demo A Version (Wine), and Star Trek Legacy (Wine).
This does not occur when using any non-game applications on my system, such as Open Office. This does not occur when using anything on the Internet, such as simply typing or Internet games.
Other Info, may or may not be helpful: Used ubuntu 8.04 previously, erased old ubuntu partition when upgrading. Arrow Keys responded fine for all applications listed above. Have a Microsoft Windows XP partition as well, only use it for applications that don't run in wine.
Just did a fresh install of maverick and out of the blue the left and right arrow keys are no longer working. the arrows on the numerical pad work.

My Ubuntu installation has no GUI, so I can't use the mouse for navigation.

I just installed fc12 on a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop. Everything is fine except that my Left and Up arrow keys are inactive so .e.g. I can't review bash history.
In the "keyboard preferences" GUI the keyboard model is "evdev-managed keyboard" (although I have also tried without success the model specific for this laptop) and the only layout is "USA".
Have done an update of all packages without fixing this problem.
I'm using Inkscape on Fedora 15 and when I try to use ALT + [arrow key] to adjust the space between letters, nothing happens. Is that key combination assigned to some other function in GNOME3?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have updated to 10.10 and now my ir remote is simulating keyboard arrow keys which is causing problems in applications like Boxee. The weird thing is if I stop lircd it still simulates the keyboard arrow keys.
Does anyone know how to stop the keyboard arrow keys from triggering when the ir remote up, down, left or right buttons are pressed?

So, I have my trusty ol' Aspire One ZG5 running with Natty. I like changing the screen orientation (sideways) to read comic books and books. I've learned how by this page: URL...So, I have no trouble changing my screen orientation with a quick key-combo, but I still need help,I'm trying to figure out how to change the "orientation" of the arrow keys along with the screen. So when i have the screen oriented to the left, the left key works as the up, the up down as the right, etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a fancy new keyboard a couple of weeks ago, a Logitech illuminated one, and it works great in openSuSE 11.2 . . . after it's booted up. It's a dual boot system, however, and today I needed to get into Windows to do some CAD work, and couldn't! That's when I discovered that the arrow keys didn't work in GRUB. It's the particular keyboard, because I can plug the old one in and the problem goes away. Both are USB keyboards. And it must have something to do with loading a keyboard driver of some sort prior to the GRUB screen, because the new keyboard works fine once the bootup is completed. In fact, I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and didn't notice a problem until today.

I have dual boot (winxp) which has been working for over a year now.But for some reason recently, grub wont recognise the keyboards arrow keys. ie cant change menu selection. in fact it wont recognise keyboard at all it seems. Pressing enter wont work either. I have to wait for the timeout.
The arrows work before hand (like in bios settings) and after once ubuntu has booted. Just not in the grub menu
Its something to with the USB wireless keyboard. If i replace it for standard PS2 kybd it works.
I am attempting to try install XUbuntu.
I loaded the dvd (one that came with Linux Format Magazine No. 139), changed BIOS to boot from dvd, and then:
I get the welcome screen with the options to boot Ubuntu, KUbuntu, XUbuntu or Boot from First Hard Disk. As I have an older laptop I was going to try XUbuntu. However, the arrow keys did not change the boot option. In fact nothing worked, Tab did not bring up a menu and Enter did not initiate boot.
I tried reloading the dvd, switching off the laptop (no way to shutdown) and restarting but always come up with the same problem.
My DVD drive works fine and the dvd appears not to be faulty since all the info is readable when it is loaded with windows running.

Konsole does not respond to the following keys on my stand-along usb
keypad:
rightarrow,leftarrow,uparrow,downarrow,home,end,pageup,pagedown
Both of the other terminal emulators on slack do recognize
these keys (xterm and xfce terminal emulator).
I can also confirm that xev, if launched from konsole will recognize
these keys.
Konsole is my terminal emulator of choice and it is really nice to
be able to use my left hand for navigation and command retrieval.
Also, keypad arrows work in X apps.
As a preface, this is not an F7 carat mode problem.Firefox 3.6.8 in Lucid no longer is navigable with the keyboard.Up/Down arrows, PgUp/PgDown, Home/End, when the page is in focus, fail to scroll the window. TAB fails to switch between form fields on the page and in the toolbar (Example: Previously, CTRL-L to go to URL field then TAB into the search field would work. Now the CTRL-L works but TAB has no effect.)

My problem is that in Firefox: I have Firefox 3.6.12 when i scroll down using the mouse scroll wheel (not up?) most of the time, but not all the time i get horizontal lines instead of the "real picture". This also happens when i use my keyboard's down arrow key.
When i go slower it seems to happen less often. Also if i click off the page and back on again the display is fine. Is this problem my graphics card? Firefox? or my mouse/keyboard?
In linux version of firefox (specifically in my case Debian's rebranded Iceweasel), folders of bookmarks in the personal toolbar show a little down arrow on the right of the name. It serves no real purpouse and just takes up horizontal space, is there a way to remove it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I browse the Internet using Firefox, I often use the keyboard to scroll because it is quicker than using the mouse. Page-Up and Page-Down are useful; Home and End are especially useful to let me move instantly to the top or bottom of a long page.
However, for the past few days, these keys have not worked correctly.
When I press those keys, either nothing happens or the screen briefly flashes but stays where it is. On some pages, they also create a large vertical black bar that slowly flashes on the page.
I have started Firefox in Safe Mode and it does the same thing (see the screen-shot). So, it's not an add-on creating the problem.
Interestingly, the keys still work properly in Chromium.
How I can fix this Firefox problem?
My system:
Ubuntu Lucid 10.04, 64-bit, with all updates

I just finished installing 10.04. When I use the mouse wheel to scroll up, Firefox loads previous pages in my history. I had the same problem in 9.10. I've searched through the net looking for solutions. Most solutions talk about adjusting mousewheel.withnokey options. However, everything I try doesn't stop it from loading previous pages when using the mouse wheel to scroll up. My current settings are as follows:
mousewheel.withnokey.action = 0
mousewheel.withnokey.numlines = 6
mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines = true
Using the mouse wheel to scroll down works fine. It's only when scrolling up. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I'm using a Microsoft Optical Intellimouse
Has anyone else had a problem with Firefox hesitating when scrolling web pages or with words taking a minute to show up while you are typing? I can be halfway through a sentence before the letters actually show up. And when scrolling down a page, it will just stop and then pick back up a few seconds later - but not where it left it. It picks back up as if it had been scrolling the whole time.I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with Firefox 3.6.13 and it does this on two desktops and two laptops.

The result is that if I click on the down arrow to go down from the top of a page, the window will scroll down to the bottom of page without stopping, even if I take pointer off the arrow.The reverse is also true if I am trying to go up from the bottom of a page. Great for very fast reader but not for me. Is this a problem anybody else has seen? View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop 64-bit distribution. Hardware is the Dell Vostro 1015; laptop with Intel (g)45 express chipset with Intel x4500MHD graphics accelerator. Celeron 900 2.2ghz single core, 1GB RAM.
The issue is I have smooth scrolling enabled in Firefox. And whenever I scroll the page, it's very choppy/laggish/not smooth at all. When I go on ..... to watch a video, any slight scrolling will cause it to flicker like crazy. The effect reminds me of when I run Windows without installing drivers for the video card.
Now I wanted to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue, so I installed Windows7 and did the exact same thing. Everything runs smoothly, I can smooth scroll no problem, and video playbacks without any flickers whatsoever. It is a lower end laptop, which is basically for the occasional ..... and web browsing.
I will try the 32 bit edition in the meantime to see if it helps. I was under the impression that 32bit limits your maximum ram to just under 4GB. (I planned to upgrade the laptop a bit)
