Jan 21, 2015I am using Debian GNU/Linux 7.8 with Linux 3.16.0-0 (x86_64) from backports and XFCE. I am using nautilus for the default file manager because thunar is not able to connect to server. My problem is that when i want to upload a file from iceweasel, the bookmarked webdav location on nautilus is not shown. This mean that iceweasel doesn't use nautilus? If so how to change this? Nautilus is checked in the default programs.

Feb 27, 2011I use LXDE and in the "preferred applications" I set icedove and iceweasel as preferred mail and internet applications but when I click on an e-mail link(craigslist in my case) not only does Icedove not open, but in Iceweasel HUNDREDS of blank tabs open up rapidly and it is difficult to kill the program. This is unlike any problem I've ever encountered so I'm not going to pretend I have a clue here. As I am familiar with Thunderbird in an other distro I would prefer to stay with IceDove.

I don't know what it is, but when I don't use a particular usb port for a while and then try to plug in a usb stick or a wacom tablet, it doesn't get recognized, it doesn't show up when I use f.e. Code: Select alllsusb. When I close the lid of the laptop and open it again, then the particular usb device gets recognized and cinnamon asks me what to do, f.e. open a folder and show the content of the usb stick I have plugged in. Because of the success on two other laptops I use the following

Ubuntu Security :: Router Has Open 5900 Port And Can't Close It?
Dec 19, 2010I've recently been taking a look at my router settings and I've realized i have my vnc port open for some reason. I don't know how or why it got opened because I've only used vnc within my private lan. Anyway, the problem is I couldn't figure out how to close that port on my router, so I just uninstalled all the vnc software from my computer so it wouldn't act like a vnc server for anybody trying to access it from the outside. So, effectively, I cannot vnc into my computer from outside my private lan, but when i port scan my public ip, the vnc port still appears open.
I'm wondering if there's something i'm missing. I'm sure it must be something in the router that I haven't figured out... something that's keeping port 5900 open.

Aug 10, 2011I installed Fedora 15 last week, on my main PC, and I absolutely love it. Defintely my favourite operating system. Now I have a few questions. I thought I would put them all in one thread, instead of making seperate ones. I did search before I posted, and I cant seem to find any solution to my problems. So here it goes.
First question, I am using evolution for my e-mail program/client. My email addresses are all hosted by hotmail. Now I have set them all up correctly, but cant seem to send e-mails(I recieve them perfectly fine). I am using the "smtp.live.com" server, and using SSL encryption. I have tried messing with the settings but have had no luck. Has anyone figured out how to fix this?
Second question, I play minecraft frequently, and I am currently starting the program via terminal [java -jar /home/username/minecraft.jar], which works flawlessly. However it is too slow(open terminal, type it in. I need a simple click), is there any other way to start minecraft?
Third and last question, What is the best way to close minecraft? I notice if I just close it(via right click, and close, or clicking the X) it freezes and stays open for a long time. Is there any better way to close it?

On Ubuntu I could go to Synaptics, remove Installed (not residetial) packages, I coud use terminal sudo autoremove, autoclean, clean. On Fedora I found out only one so far: yum clean all. Feb 25, 2016I just installed Debian on a new computer yesterday, it's more or less a fresh install. This morning I launched Iceweasel and it brought my computer to it's knees. I ran top, and found out that there was a process called "Web Content" using up 30 gigs of memory! Further experimentation shows that Iceweasel is fine until I open up a tab or two, and then it quickly begins consuming all my memory (I have 24 gigs) and swap space. I'm currently using Chrome, which is working fine, but I'd really prefer Iceweasel.

Aug 29, 2011A few days ago, I noticed that flash wasn't working. I don't use flash often and have Flashblock guarding the gates so not quite sure when that happened. In the process of getting it running again I noticed a lot of Iceweasel add-ons are available in the Debian repos. In fact, deleting Flashblock from Firefox and switching to the one from the repos may be what fixed the problem (or it could have been the latest Iceweasel update which I reinstalled).
Anyway, my question is . . . just how do add-ons available via Synaptic and those from Firefox differ? And is it preferable and advisable to use the ones in Synaptic? Since I imported my old profile from Firefox to Iceweasel, I have a lot of standard add-ons rather than the Debian version.
Debian :: AdBlock Plus Not Working With Iceweasel
Jul 7, 2015I have Inceweasel 31.8.0 installed on LXDE Debian Wheezy and I am trying to make AdBlock Plus work. The thing is that I get pop-ups from any site, Youtube ad videos, etc. all the time, just like I have nothing installed to prevent that.
I tried:
- Installing AdBlock from Iceweasel add-ons, with a suscription to easylist ;
- installing xul-ext-adblock-plus (also with the same suscription).
With each configuration or even with none of them, I get the same results as described above. Is there anything I can do ?
By the way, I don't get Youtube ad videos on Chromium with Adblock installed through the Chrome webstore.
