Debian :: Sanskrit Words In Latex Documentation

Jun 28, 2010

I am creating a documentation (in English) where I need to write some Sanskrit words. My OS is debian-5.0.4. I have texlive-latex3 and have installed latex-sanskrit. Problem is what US-English keyboard will produce the Sanskrit letters. My 'Latex-A Document Preparation System' by Leslie Lamport gives the commands for some Western languages - Greek, Swedish, French. Is any document/manual available to suit my purpose?

OpenSUSE :: Sanskrit Words In Texlive-latex (document In English)

Jun 29, 2010

I am creating a latex document (in English) where I want to write some Sanskrit words in Devanagari script. In my debian-5.0.4 OS where I have texlive-latex3 I did it by installing a package called latex-sanskrit. Is there any such package for opensuse-11.2 and which repository contains it? It will be preferable if it can be installed by yast2.

General :: Getting Emacs Recognizing .tex As Latex And Even Running Latex-mode?

Jul 5, 2010

I am a semi-noob on this and I have problems getting my emacs recognizing .tex as latex and even running latex-mode. Usually when you run latex-mode (M-x : latex-mode) emacs should switch to latex-mode, but nothing happens in my case. The menu bar still show the TeX options, highlighting remains the same etc.

I am running emacs 23.1.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.10.4), this is on a university system so I don't know much about it.

Debian :: Centralize Linux Offline Documentation

Oct 2, 2015

I am using Debian 8, fully updated as of this writing.

I want to find a package or some way to get all my linux offline documentation in one place, be it through the web browser or an application, in the official reppos or not does not matter. I've already tried doc-central with apache2 but I get all sorts of error messages and something about no D-bus daemon started, i dont understand, because I;ve installed d-bus service latest version after the error. when I started doc-central correctly through almost blind luck (only once) I did not get any docs just the welcome message.

Is there an alternative to doc-central, a GUI type solution would be preferable. or at least some advice to properly configure doc-central and maybe that d-bus problem, because I clearly did something wrong, I have even tried to write the configuration through an example file for doc-central, but that did not do much, I've read that DocCentral is unstable so maybe I going at it the wrong way.

usepackage{garamond}in my latex file always leads to the error message

Debian :: Browsing HTML Documentation That Comes With Python Packages?

Nov 16, 2010

There seems to be a lot of documentation automatically installed on my hard drive, is there a unified browser for all of the -doc packages? Is it just the man command? What about the html documentation that comes with python packages? Is there an easy way to browse these? As it stands, all I know how to do is navigate to the directory and open the html file explicitly, it just seems like there might be an easier way. I've googled around and don't know exactly what I'm looking for.

Debian :: Using LaTeX Text In Inkscape - PyXML Import Error

May 20, 2011

I want to use LaTeX text in Inkscape. Just a simple thing like $$x_i$$. There is an extension called textext with installation manual. Basically one have to copy four files into /usr/share/inkscape/extensions and one more option appears in Extensions menu. So far so good.

If I try to use that extension I get an error message:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/inkscape/extensions/inklatex.py", line 7, in <module>
import xml.dom.ext.reader.Sax2
ImportError: No module named ext.reader.Sax2

Googling you can find several topics about that error from 2004 or earlier saying to install PyXML and providing a link to it, where it is said "Out of date. Do not use it." I have tried to build that PyXML though -- without success (lots of compile errors).

Debian Multimedia :: Online Radios - Words Are Continuously Broken By A Metallic Sound

Jun 5, 2011

I am running debian testing, amd64 on my box. In general, I do not experience particular multimedia problems; I can watch & listen to ..... videos without a glitch and even webcasts like [URL] do not pose any problem. However, I experience problems with some (reputable) online radios, for instance when I visit the link [URL] then words are continuously broken by a metallic sound. However, if I open e.g. with totem a simple file such as france_culture_mp3-128k.m3u whose content is given by

[Code]...

then the sound is OK. This is puzzling as this text file once again points to the same radio franceculture! Does anyone have an idea of what is going on? It seems to me that whenever I try to listen to an online radio from within iceweasel, then I have sound problems, but I have installed many plugins and I do not have problems with video webcasts that of course also include sound.

Ubuntu :: Installing Latex .sty And .cls?

Feb 7, 2011

I'm trying to install a .sty, .cls, and a .bst (bibtex) file for latex. I'm currently using texlive in Ubuntu 10.10. I have the general idea of where to install these but whenever I try to compile the .tex I get an error that says permission is denied to the .cls file, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I've ran the mktexlsr and everything else, but I still get this problem. If I run sudo pdflatex <filename> I wind up compiling a pdf document that I can't access. Not sure if I have to add permissions to the .sty and .cls files after they've been copied.

Additionally, the .sty and .cls files I'm using aren't in the official texlive distribution so I would definitely need to install them myself.

Ubuntu :: Where's The Documentation For Maximus

May 20, 2010

I'm running the netbook remix on my laptop and I really like the user interface. Particularly, maximus auto maximizing your windows. I've figured out that for the apps I don't want to maximize, I can add them to maximus' ignore list. But, with Chrome and a custom app that I'm writing, I want maximus to maximize the main window but not maximize any window that the application opens. The basic use case is when I click my delicious button in Chrome, I don't want the resulting window to be maximized. Is it possible to fine tune maximus this way? tl;dr - Is it possible to fine tune maximus to only maximize an application's main window but not the child windows? - Where can I find more detailed documentation on maximus?

Fedora :: LaTeX Documents Compiled - Are Different To Those On Mac ?

Jun 18, 2010

Today I discovered a strange issue regarding LaTeX. I am currently working on my thesis and sometimes edit it on my laptop with F13 x86_64, and others with my office's Mac (Leopard). Fedora has TexLive installed (default Latex distribution) and I believe the Mac has its default distribution as well.

The problem is that the Mac seems to compile the document better (Latex + Bibtex + Latex + dvips + ps2pdf): page distribution looks better for one thing, space is better used. I notice that images (EPS) are rendered with an extra blank space on the bottom when compiling in Linux (which might be responsible for the page's arrangement).

Is there something I can do to fix this? Some option that perhaps the Mac has as a default but must be specified in Linux?

Ubuntu :: LaTeX Regarding Multiple Columns?

Dec 19, 2010

I was trying to do a school assignment in LaTeX. The assignment involves having the page split into three columns: the first column is for the quote, the second is for a reaction, and the third is for questions. These columns must be able to break in the middle of a row. I was trying to accomplish this using LaTeX.

First, I tried the longtable environment, but that would not allow me to pagebreak in the middle of a row. Then, I tried parcolumns, but for some reason, the second "row" had a huge space between the first two words. Does anyone know of an environment suitable for this kind of work?

Programming :: Referencing In Latex Isn't Working?

Jun 28, 2009

I have some strange behavior in Latex. I have added labels to all of my tables (currently there are 3) and my figure (currently there is only 1). So far I only notice this behavior with tables, though it may happen with figures as well...I will have to add another figure to test that. However, what is happening is that my list of tables is correctly generating the numbers of the tables (which are 3.1, 3.2, and 4.1). In the resulting PDF document, the tables have the correct numbers in the captions as well. The odd thing is that when I attempt to reference them using ef, it is printing the Chapter.Section[.Subsection] number the table is located in instead of the table's number itself.Right now I have two tables inside of Chapter 3 Section 3. They are as follows:

Code:
