Debian Installation :: Installing NVIDIA Drivers On Lenovo B560?

May 2, 2011

I want to install NVIDIA drivers on my Debian Squeeze so that I can use parallel computing packages like CUDA C or OpenCL for my Master Thesis. I have NVIDIA Geforce 310M.

I found a link in wiki.debian which gives me two ways to install NVIDIA drivers and I want to install the NVIDIA way (non-debian way).I have to stop 'X' and I stopped it by typing 'service gdm3 stop' and then I went to ''init 3'' . Now I want run

'sh /home/swaroop/Downloads/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-270-41.06.run' but its not working.

Fedora Hardware :: Lenovo B560 (Optimus, Nvidia 310M) / "Screen Not Found" Error?

Jan 28, 2011

I am running Fedora 14 on a Lenovo B560 laptop. This laptop has a hardware peculiarity, namely Nvidia's newest gag: Optimus. This laptop has two graphics cards: an Intel GMA HD (for 2D) and a Nvidia 310 M (for 3D). The Optimus technology automatically activates the graphics card required for the current task.

Now, Optimus on linux is so far officially unsupported by Nvidia.

At the moment, my Fedora runs on the Intel GMA. I personally don't care if Optimus doesn't run on linux if I can somehow manually (even solely) use the Nvidia 310M graphics card.

So far, all my manual attempts in xorg.conf to speak to this card fail with the X not starting and the well-known "Screen not found" error.

Does anyone have any experience with this or ideas how to activate the Nvidia card?

Debian Hardware :: No Wlan / Lenovo T61 / Squeeze / Cannot Get Any Wireless Connection?

Jun 23, 2011

i have debian squeeze installed on my lenovo t61 notebook with intel wireless 3945 firmware.

i've installed the firmware-iwlwifi package but cannot get any wireless connection.

i'm using the fluxbox dekstop with wicd network manager.

i've searched around on the debian user forum archives and the internet but have yet to find a solution for this. it seems most people have just installed the firmware-iwlwifi package and then wlan was working.

i had ubuntu installed on this machine before with wlan running, so i know that there is nothing wrong with my hardware.

I've tried disabling ip6, disabling avahi and adding options single-request to my /etc/resolv.conf - problem remains. If it helps when installing Squeeze was prompted to install firmware-realtek, which I didn't have. So downloaded onto usb from another machine installed once setup was complete.

Debian Multimedia :: Just Installed Squeeze / Running Back To Lenny

Feb 6, 2011

I could not get the hardware to work with Lenny's ancient drivers, so I gave up and decided to upgrade to Squeeze.Well, the hardware works (except sound), but KDE4 is a such a disaster that I want to run not walk! all the way back to Lenny. I'm stunned that after four years of active development, this desktop still doesn't have something as basic as keyboard shortcuts or the ability to place icons where YOU want them.

The widgets frustrate me to no end. The new K menu is impossible to navigate. I'd rather hang myself than use Dolphin as a file manager. KDE4 gives me more notifications than MS Windows' crapware. And it's UGLY !!! The "Oxygen" theme makes me want to tear my eyeballs out.

Debian :: Cannot Fin Pipe Key On Lenovo Laptop

I think I have found how, but I need to use the pipe symbol in a command line and I don't have it on my keyboard.I've tried different settings for my keyboard and different language, but nothing seems to do; I try all the keys, with shift or alt, but nothing works.I'm working on Debian, Lenny, with a Lenovo 3000 v100 Laptop. Nowhere on my keyboard do I have the symbol I am looking for. I have the vertical bar divided in two, but not the continous one.Do I need somehow to remap my keyboard or add a function to a key?

Debian Hardware :: Xbacklight Not Working - Lenovo S10

Mar 17, 2016

I'm trying to change the backlight via xbacklight but this is not working. Although

Code: Select allxbacklight -set X

causes

Code: Select allxbacklight -get

to return X, the real monitor backlight is unchanged.

The XF86MonBrightnessDown (fn+some-key) isn't working either, although it may have been working earlier.

How can I further debug this issue?

Why are the extensions ["", "txt", "text"] "not allowed" for upload?

I tried stracing the xbacklight call, I'm including the output, but I can't make anything out of it.

Is there a way to do this via xrandr or is there a lower-level way?

Debian Hardware :: No Wireless Connection For New Lenovo X1 Carbon

Mar 27, 2015

I could not get wireless connection during the Debian Testing (LXDE) installation and am wondering how I can setup wireless connection now. Here are the details:

- Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd gen., 2015, core i7, 256GB, WHQD display)

- For installation, I used [URL] .... -> debian-testing-amd64-lxde-CD-1.iso

- During the installation process, I received a message that the following files are missing: iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode, iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode (strangely (to me), they were mentioned twice, so 4 files). I was asked to provide them on a USB stick

- I went to [URL] ...., downloaded firmware-nonfree_0.43.tar.gz and put the files iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode-22.24.8.0 and iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode-23.214.9.0 on a USB stick (FAT32 formatted). They were not recognized. Also not after renaming precisely to the file names I was asked for (what should I have done in this case?)

- I then simply continued the installation (flawlessly) without internet connection

- How can I now set up wireless connection?

I'm new to Debian but an Ubuntu user for 3 years. I tried to use commands from Ubuntu (ipconfig...) to figure out more, but they were not available.

Debian Hardware :: Lenovo B40-70 Internal Microphone Is Not Audible

Feb 10, 2016

Recently purchased a Lenovo B40-70 Dec 15 Make and isntalled Debian Jessie as the only operating system. Everything seems to work fine except internal microphone.

I have entries under ports of pavucontrol
- Internal Microphone
- Microphone (unplugged)

I changed amplification levels of left and right channels (as some suggested having right and left at same level cancel each other thus producing no audio). I've added entries such as Code: Select alloptions snd-hda-intel model=laptop to non existing alsa-base.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/. - No effect

Haven't seen Lenovo internal microphone problems offlate in forums or QA Boards, so asking it here again.

Also, I'm planning to buy a USB microphone : [URL].....

Will this work out of the box to make skype calls ?
