View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Firestarter firewall on debian Squeeze. Now i note there is a gui available in System->Administration which apparently does not need to be running all the time - its not set up to start on boot. When I boot I notice the boot message has a line saying "Starting Firestarter firewall .... failed"When I am logged in and type "/etc/init.d/firestarter status" as the Firestarter FAQs say, I get"Firestarter is running... ... (warning)"I can run the gui manually and still same message.

I installed Debian squeeze on my old Dell Latitude C600 laptop. I Installed it from a cd that worked to a friend of mine. I finished the installation successfully. After booting the computer I can get to the grub screen and after choosing the OS (Debian GNU/LINUX, with linx 2.6.32-5-686) I see the computer loading and running command lines, but after few lines, I get black screen and I hear the computer "working" but can't see anything and it doesn't react to anything that I do.

I am running Debian Squeeze 32bit with gnome-core installed. When I alter the acceleration or sensitivity within the pointer speed section of gnome-mouse-properties, my mouse does not act differently. Has anyone else encountered this problem? How can I change my mouse sensitivity? I have installed Debian Lenny previously and I recall that I was capable of changing the sensitivity.

I've tried disabling ip6, disabling avahi and adding options single-request to my /etc/resolv.conf - problem remains. If it helps when installing Squeeze was prompted to install firmware-realtek, which I didn't have. So downloaded onto usb from another machine installed once setup was complete.
I could not get the hardware to work with Lenny's ancient drivers, so I gave up and decided to upgrade to Squeeze.Well, the hardware works (except sound), but KDE4 is a such a disaster that I want to run not walk! all the way back to Lenny. I'm stunned that after four years of active development, this desktop still doesn't have something as basic as keyboard shortcuts or the ability to place icons where YOU want them.
The widgets frustrate me to no end. The new K menu is impossible to navigate. I'd rather hang myself than use Dolphin as a file manager. KDE4 gives me more notifications than MS Windows' crapware. And it's UGLY !!! The "Oxygen" theme makes me want to tear my eyeballs out.
Installed gfax on Debian Linux i386 squeeze.Also installed: libc-bin libc-dev-bin libpaper-utils.Also upgraded: libc6 libc6-dev libc6-i686 libmono-corlib2.0-cil libmono-security2.0-cil libmono-system2.0-cil locales mono-2.0-gac mono-gac mono-runtime.

Upon bootup, however, I get a scrolling message saying:[ 206.790092] eth0: (71) System Error occurred (2)Not really sure what this is about. I never received this when I had it running Solaris or FreeBSD or even Ubuntu's older SPARC versions.I also know that it's unlikely to be a bad ethernet card, since Debian was network-installed, and I never came across this error before.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386.iso hoping I would get the Unity User Interface, but to my dissapointment I got the regular one.
I checked the user settings and 'Netbook Edition' is selected as my default view.
What can I do to get the Unity Interface?
I just installed an ubuntu netbook edition on my notebook. In the installation process I defined a user with a password. I can use that password to access many system tools, like the synaptic package manager, adding users and so on..
However, when I wanted to do some staff in a terminal as a superuser (using the su command), and I enter my password (There is only a single user and a single password so far) I get authentification failure.
I went to System-->Administration-->uers and groups . I changed the my account type to an "Administrator" (for that I used again my password). hoping that I can use the su command but still it did not work..
I feel that the superuser needs to be set or defined. Since I have not done that then whatever pass word I enter after the command su I will always get "authentification failure"
How can I define the superuser and tell the system that I am the superuser of this computer?
If your PC has a 64-bit AMD or Intel processor, you will most likely need the "amd64" images (though "i386" is also fine), the "ia64" images will not work."Does it mean I should use ia64 image for my 64-bit intel processor?
