I wrote a document using LibreOffice Writer. It has heading styles and a generated table of contents.I saved the document to ODT and as PDF. I loaded the PDF into Caliber as an e-Book.
I converted the PDF to EPUB format for Nook(tm) devices. I stored the EPUB to my 'droid phone and loaded it into an EPUB reader. VIOLA! I can see the table of contents as page #1. I cannot see any other pages in the EPUB. I can read the original PDF just fine.
Q1. What must I do along the way so that I have a useful EPUB? (I don't need fancy just complete and readable.) Q2. Are their things that I need to do to the PDF in Calibre? Q3. Are there things I need to do in LibreOffice Writer or to the generated PDF before I convert it to EPUB with Calibre?
I guess many guys got lots of eBooks in PDF and other formats, but some e-readers like Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, Hanlin eReader and phones/devices using Android only support specific formats with their default reader apps, especially newly-released and hot iPad. What's the best way to convert those PDFs to ePub (ePub is the only ebook format iTunes accepts)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to install the program Calibre, which does have a Linux installation, but I haven't the faintest idea how to do it. I don't even know how to find out if I have the requirements or not.
Here is the link, if anyone can shed some light. [URL]
I installed 10.10 on this (new) system a couple of months ago. Haven't had it attached to the network for a couple of months (for viewing documents) Yesterday I did connect, let Update Manager do its thing (installed ~180MB of updates). Everything went fine. Today, was planning on installing Calibre on this and couldn't remember what version I had installed, so I checked...
> System > About Ubuntu now reports that I have 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) installed. I thought 11.04 wasn't to be released until April 2011.Everything running fine (no obvious changes on the desktop at all)...
Recently I tried to install calibre ebook management software from the Ubuntu Software center and it installed fine as expected, ran fine from the applications menu as expected (for the initial run) went through the wizard and clicked next. All of a sudden I was presented with a login prompt. I thought I must have hit a hot key accidentally, so I logged in and it restarted fresh not like the desktop was locked. So I ran calibre again and it did the same thing. I uninstalled calibre and went about compiling from source, after all of the dependencies were met and it compiled and installed ran it again and it logged me out again.
System:
Ubuntu 10.10

I'm clueless as on how to compile and install Calibre from the tarball source code.
I just installed Calibre, but it doesn't start. It just gives the waiting clock for a moment, and then the pointer again. Does anyone know how I can get this program to work?

Using openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), KDE environment. I am very, very new and inexperienced with Linux... I would like to download and read some e-books using my desktop PC. I poked around the Internet with Google and found several recommendations for an e-book reader called Calibre. So I found it in the openSUSE repository and installed v. 0.6.53-3.3.1 using YaST2. But the darned thing does not seem to work -- I click on the icon and nothing happens!!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just updated to Calibre version 0.7.44 in Debian testing, on an amd64 system. Conversion worked with previous version, but now Calibre freezes as soon as I choose convert individual book. When I run top, I see that python is taking 100% of the cpu. The only way to stop calibre, which shows a grey screen, is to kill python. I got this message in the terminal after it shuts down;

If there is not way to fix this, Is there a way I can just reinstall the previous version of Calibre, even though only the new version is listed when I check in synaptic?
I'd prefer a command line version if possible. Batch use would be best.

I have spend the entire weekend trying to convert a mkv file with a DTS audio track to an AC3 audio track. I wrote a small article on it on my website with plenty of links and suggestions. I used applications like TVersity, PS3 Media Server, mkvdts2ac3 script, and avidemux. I just hope i can save someone's weekend with this. Anyway here is the link:

View 1 Replies View Relatedi am converting my DVDs into a media library. The ripping itself is no problem. (using Xilisoft dvd-rip under wine; works flawless).
when i convert to a mp4 file, with good quality, the output is always around 1.2 -1.8 gb. depending on the movie file. i tried Xvid and the size is pretty much the same. only by reduucing the pixel size etc... i get like a 600-800 mb file.
when i see other ripped movies, with about the same movie length, they getting 800mb mp4, in perfect quality, no smaller screen, pixels are great etc... is there any kind of advanced setting to it? bitrate, audio? to get down to this file size..?
I have mediatomb (0.12.0~svn2018-6ubuntu2) installed on Ubuntu Server 10.04.2 LTS which I use to serve video to my PS3 (slim version). MOst videos work fine but I have some mkv's giving me trouble.I'm trying to use mencoder to re-code the video to one that the PS3 can play. mkvinfo says the video track is Codec ID: V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC and the audio track is Codec ID: A_AC3.I used this command to convert to avi (found it in a thread on this forum):
mencoder -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr=128 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=1200 video.mkv -o video.avi
but the PS3 says the avi is an unsupported format.

How would I go about converting an MPG to a DVD format so I could burn it to a DVD disc and play it on a standard player?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am in Toronto Canada and we have NTSC television. I am going to England where they use PAL. My mom's DVD player cannot read NTSC.
I have a TV show on my PVR that I want to burn to a DVD so that she can see.
I have to output the program from the PVR to my DVD recorder; I do not have the hardware to send directly to my computer.
So I believe I must follow these steps:
Rip DVD to computer
Convert to PAL format
Burn to DVD
