Hi all, i used synaptic to uninstall epiphany and it also removed gnome-destop along with it, resulting in me having to reinstall(AGAIN!) Ofcourse my intention was to uninstall epiphany and _not_ gnome, so is there a way to take epiphany off of my system with out affecting gnome?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Linux Mint 8. However, internet browser speed is very slow as compared to using the same computer with Windows. In Linux, I've used Firefox 3.5 and Epiphany 2.28. Epiphany runs somewhat faster than Firefox so I mainly use it for the internet.
What I would like to know is if Epiphany browser 2.30 is noticably faster than 2.28? Should I go thru the trouble of upgrading to Mint 9 inorder to be able to use Epiphany 2.3 - as well as Chromium 8?
This problem one day popped out of nowhere in my ubuntu 9.04 firefox browser that I could not submit my reply on any forums. So I changed my browser to epiphany and then to opera but all failed then I installed arora and it worked. I don't know what is the problem with other browsers I just cannot submit a reply on any forums.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just moved to Fedora 11 from Ubuntu and I am very happy, not even thinking to go back to Ubuntu (because of gma500 driver support). How can I clean up Fedora? On Ubuntu I could go to Synaptics, remove Installed (not residetial) packages, I coud use terminal sudo autoremove, autoclean, clean. On Fedora I found out only one so far: yum clean all. Is there anything else I should now, can you share with me how you are cleaning up your Fedora? Second thing, which is not only related to Fedora, is there any chance to make Epiphany remeber tabs after I close the browser and open it again? Don't really want to use any other browser.

So I would like to uninstall Gnome 3 without disturbing Mate and my system as well because both DE share many dependencies. If this is very risky I would like at least get rid of all gnome packages which are not shared with Mate.

I've tried to uninstall gnome as below :

I'm using Debian Jessie and I'm trying to install some Gnome Shell Extensions from this site: [URL] .....
I click on the extension and it shows a button that I can turn ON or OFF. It's OFF by default. Then I click it, it turns ON and I'm asked if I want to download and install that extension. I say Yes! But then nothing happens. If I visit "Installed extensions" session, it says there are no extensions installed. And if I refresh the extension page, the ON button becomes OFF again. No matter how many times I try to do this, the result is the same. I tryed it with Iceweasel (v. 24.2.0) and Google Chrome (v. 32.0.1700.77) and default gnome-shell (v. 3.8.4).
I can't get Gnome's Web(browser) (ver 3.4.2) working with flash. I see only a kind of blue box, when I click on it, audio playback starts but not video. I tried this on two machines, one with Intel graphics, second with radeon.

I have no problem browsing them with empathy epiphany, so I guess it must some setting that I am missing. Also, symbols like smilies appear very pixelated.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI can't find a solution for not seeing any texts on html5 web pages. I haven't found any other report about such an odd behaviour on the web so far. Even on the new W3C web page (see the screenshot below for details) I can't see any texts. They are just invisible. I can mark and copy them, but there is nothing to see on Iceweasel 3.0.6 and Epiphany 2.22.3.
Because both browsers behave the same way I guess it's not a browser issue, but something more basic. My Debian Lenny stable should be unblemished because I've never used anything else than the main sources. I can't believe, that the W3C has switched to a new standard without propper fallback-support for older browser versions...
just installed debian 5.0.4 on an imac g3 500mhz allinone and when i went to videos to test the video quality the video seems to open over and over, audio starts and then restarts and copies of the video pop up continuously. the only way to kill the video is to shut down the computer. this happens in epiphany and also in iceweasel, is this a flash issue? any one seen anything like this before? it acts like there is a loop in the software that causes it to keep opening the same thing over and over.

A week ago I installed a completely new Debian Squeeze on a newly LUKS encrypted, etx3-formated notebook Acer Extensa 5220. I used main sources only and the only uncommon thing I did so far was to disable ipv6 according to the Debian guide:

I used Epiphany as my main web browser on Debian Lenny on the same Notebook. Before the last weeks before switching to the Squeeze I experianced the problem, that I couldn't display the freemail-webpage of GMX any more without crashing the browser. After installing the new system I can display GMX again, but now Epiphany freezes as soon as I open GMail. And unfortunately the browser is much slower than before on Lenny. Right now Chromium and Iceweasel are working without any problems with the same installation...

So I'm wondering why so much variable stuff like CD recorders, image editors, games is installed with Gnome. But this is inly a half of the problem! Gnome depends on them! So when I want to uninstall them via Synaptic Package Manager it asks me to uninstall Gnome too!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know a bunch of commands and I am comfortable using the terminal, I even set a powerpc server but I can't figure out how to remove epiphany on this new computer I'm setting up. I didn't install anything with tasksel. I installed gnome and xorg afterwards... I load it up and 'startx' just fine. then I check around for the programs that were installed. I lik'em gimp, lot's of utilities. gedit. anyway I find epiphany, which I have already established that I dislike, I immediately go to the root terminal (another nice program that comes with gnome) and type apt-get remove epiphany-browser-data the output says it will be deleting gnome... however I have researched and found these are simpy meta packages that don't really matter.... however under the section that states all the packages that will be removed by autoremove there is a huge list... I doubt these packages are safe to remove. how to remove epiphany without removing a huge amount of probably needed software
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out how to get EPS image support for a Gnome image browser, in particular Eye of Gnome (EOG) -- the default image viewer in Gnome. In Nautilus, thumbnails appear fine for EPS images, but when opening them in Eye of Gnome or gThumb, neither program can open the images. EOG says "unsupported file format", and gThumb shows a blank screen. Apparently both programs can get additional image support, but I can't seem to get it to work.
I have ghostscript updated to the latest version, and I'm using Fedora 10.
Anybody know how to do this?
I asking for an alternative to nautilus. The problem I have with nautilus is that it take up too much screen real estate, the icons are too big, etc. My screen is 1280 x 1024 and I dont plan on going higher.
Any alternative should have the option of using small, smaller icons and when resized keeps the smaller size the next time the file browser window is opened.
I'm running openSUSE 11.3 with GNOME. I went through the Software Manager and deleted every instance of OpenOffice.org that was left after changing to LibreOffice, and also installed Beagle (+dependencies) and Tracker with some additional packages. Then I noticed that in the Application Browser there is no text next to the icons. Only the small version of the icons centered with no text (screenshot below).
The problem is I have no idea how to restore it to the way it was. I've already deleted Beagle and Tracker and their packages to no avail. I also noticed that YaST and Control Center both look fine. It's only the Application Browser.
I can't seem to find an alternative browser to the default browser "Firefox" that will install on PClinuxOS 10.12 with Gnome desktop.
Does anyone know of a browser that will install on PClinuxOS Gnome, besides Firefox, or a way of installing let's say Chrome on this Distro?
I am new to linux and don't know much about it. I am currently taking a on-line class on it and seem to get stuck from time to time. I have been trying to install Konqueror on my systems. I have installed the KDEBASE3-3.5.10. However nothing shows up on my menus in GNOME. According to what I have read you can use this program on either of the GUI's. Not sure what details are needed, but below are some.
1) Quad core AMD Processor
2) Fedora 13
3) Kernel Linux 2.6.33.3-85.fc13.i686
4) Using Gnome GUI.
