I have this problem with some pages here on LQ. They just scroll way out to the right (see attached screenshot, notice the horizontal scrollbar). I have no problem browsing them with empathy epiphany, so I guess it must some setting that I am missing. Also, symbols like smilies appear very pixelated.

I can't find a solution for not seeing any texts on html5 web pages. I haven't found any other report about such an odd behaviour on the web so far. Even on the new W3C web page (see the screenshot below for details) I can't see any texts. They are just invisible. I can mark and copy them, but there is nothing to see on Iceweasel 3.0.6 and Epiphany 2.22.3.
Because both browsers behave the same way I guess it's not a browser issue, but something more basic. My Debian Lenny stable should be unblemished because I've never used anything else than the main sources. I can't believe, that the W3C has switched to a new standard without propper fallback-support for older browser versions...
just installed debian 5.0.4 on an imac g3 500mhz allinone and when i went to videos to test the video quality the video seems to open over and over, audio starts and then restarts and copies of the video pop up continuously. the only way to kill the video is to shut down the computer. this happens in epiphany and also in iceweasel, is this a flash issue? any one seen anything like this before? it acts like there is a loop in the software that causes it to keep opening the same thing over and over.

A week ago I installed a completely new Debian Squeeze on a newly LUKS encrypted, etx3-formated notebook Acer Extensa 5220. I used main sources only and the only uncommon thing I did so far was to disable ipv6 according to the Debian guide:

I used Epiphany as my main web browser on Debian Lenny on the same Notebook. Before the last weeks before switching to the Squeeze I experianced the problem, that I couldn't display the freemail-webpage of GMX any more without crashing the browser. After installing the new system I can display GMX again, but now Epiphany freezes as soon as I open GMail. And unfortunately the browser is much slower than before on Lenny. Right now Chromium and Iceweasel are working without any problems with the same installation...
When I download a file, lets say text file I want it to open straight away in iceweseal.So in the "open With" dialog box if I choose iceweseal it is not opening the file in it. It just downloads the text file.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI know a bunch of commands and I am comfortable using the terminal, I even set a powerpc server but I can't figure out how to remove epiphany on this new computer I'm setting up. I didn't install anything with tasksel. I installed gnome and xorg afterwards... I load it up and 'startx' just fine. then I check around for the programs that were installed. I lik'em gimp, lot's of utilities. gedit. anyway I find epiphany, which I have already established that I dislike, I immediately go to the root terminal (another nice program that comes with gnome) and type apt-get remove epiphany-browser-data the output says it will be deleting gnome... however I have researched and found these are simpy meta packages that don't really matter.... however under the section that states all the packages that will be removed by autoremove there is a huge list... I doubt these packages are safe to remove. how to remove epiphany without removing a huge amount of probably needed software

Now, after a recent re-install of Jessie, that does not happen. The browser just freezes when I point it to a PDF file. Reader is installed and shows up among Iceweasel's add-ons.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just installed Debian on a new computer yesterday, it's more or less a fresh install. This morning I launched Iceweasel and it brought my computer to it's knees. I ran top, and found out that there was a process called "Web Content" using up 30 gigs of memory! Further experimentation shows that Iceweasel is fine until I open up a tab or two, and then it quickly begins consuming all my memory (I have 24 gigs) and swap space. I'm currently using Chrome, which is working fine, but I'd really prefer Iceweasel.

View 14 Replies View RelatedA few days ago, I noticed that flash wasn't working. I don't use flash often and have Flashblock guarding the gates so not quite sure when that happened. In the process of getting it running again I noticed a lot of Iceweasel add-ons are available in the Debian repos. In fact, deleting Flashblock from Firefox and switching to the one from the repos may be what fixed the problem (or it could have been the latest Iceweasel update which I reinstalled).
Anyway, my question is . . . just how do add-ons available via Synaptic and those from Firefox differ? And is it preferable and advisable to use the ones in Synaptic? Since I imported my old profile from Firefox to Iceweasel, I have a lot of standard add-ons rather than the Debian version.
While browsing forums.debian.net, sometimes, I experience temporary freezes (a few seconds) while scrolling. This, obviously happens while browsing other sites.I am using Iceweasel (3.5.16) in Squeeze. Squeeze is fully updated. Does anyone know why this is happening because I have only I page and one tab at the moment?

Is there any way to configure nautilus to open new folders in the same window? Now, when I browse to a folder in my ~/ and finally reach the folder I was looking for. I have several or so nautilus windows open. Just to navigate to a specific folder in my home directory (~/). I think all those windows are a little excessive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Inceweasel 31.8.0 installed on LXDE Debian Wheezy and I am trying to make AdBlock Plus work. The thing is that I get pop-ups from any site, Youtube ad videos, etc. all the time, just like I have nothing installed to prevent that.
I tried:
- Installing AdBlock from Iceweasel add-ons, with a suscription to easylist ;
- installing xul-ext-adblock-plus (also with the same suscription).
With each configuration or even with none of them, I get the same results as described above. Is there anything I can do ?
By the way, I don't get Youtube ad videos on Chromium with Adblock installed through the Chrome webstore.
I have Iceweasel 38.6.0 on Jessie 8.3, and it seems to crash more or less randomly. It just suddenly disappears, and when restarted, it gives that "embarrasing"- thing. The pages reopen fine and it may take a day between crashes, or about an hour.
Where should I look for the reason of the crashing? Is there a log file or something somewhere?
My machine is old StinkBad T400. I'm using Cinnamon.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing 3.5.6 from backports, applets stopped working. I installed the java-6-sun package but it's still not making it. Searched google but haven't found anything but some bug fixes. Also saw something about ipv6, but not sure if that's related. That seemed to affect java programs. I use jedit and that is working fine. I downloaded the latest SDK from Sun and created a link from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins and /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins to /opt/SDK/jdk/jre/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so. Prior to the update to 3.5.6, the plugins were working and I could get the ..... stuff etc.

In ubuntu its called kmozillahelper. There was similar packages in Debian (called differently as far as I remember). View 10 Replies View RelatedI am running Squeeze (Gnome desktop) and I'm experiencing some problems with Iceweasel. My problem is that sometimes Iceweasel just hangs when I launch it. I can see the cursor blinking 2-3 times in the adress bar and then it just locks up. I have tried a few different versions of iceweasel, both from stable (squeeze though), experimental and now a package from http://mozilla.debian.net/packages/ with iceweasel 4 beta.
All of them behaves the same way. They work for a while and then suddenly locks up when launched. The only way to get going again is to kill the process and delete the .mozilla directory. It is possible to launch the --safe-mode though but nothing with this mode lets me change anything to get a normal session going.' Also, it doesn't matter if I have extensions installed or not, it still behaves the same way with zero of them installed. How would I go about to debug this? If I launch iceweasel from the command line I get no output but I'm sure there is a way to get some more info to work with.
I've been using Iceweasel for 4-5 months now, since I installed Debian 6.0 testing.It worked fine and I had to use flashplugin-nonfree from the repositories in order to get flash working, nothing new here.In my last apt-get upgrade, something broke. Not sure if it is the flashplugin or Iceweasel.I tried changing flashplugins (trying the 32bit one, trying the new 64bit, trying another package I found) but every time I go on ..... and click on a video, Iceweasel crashes.The only output I got was "sesmentation fault".So I tried with firefox and Iceape and they worked fine.However the firefox downloaded was 32bit, so I downloaded the 3.6.12 source and compiled it (Forgot to mention i'm on amd64, but who isn't nowadays?).Flashplugin works fine with firefox 64bit, browser doesn't crash, but I keep getting:
