I can't get Gnome's Web(browser) (ver 3.4.2) working with flash. I see only a kind of blue box, when I click on it, audio playback starts but not video. I tried this on two machines, one with Intel graphics, second with radeon.
View 4 RepliesIceweasel, Konqueror, makes no difference. Embedded flash videos make them crash every time. I had to install Flash Control on Iceweasel just to make it usable.

The kicker is I can't recall ever installing flash support in the first place.
I'm bitterly regretting the upgrade to 8.2. It's just one damn thing after another.
I'm using Debian Jessie and I'm trying to install some Gnome Shell Extensions from this site: [URL] .....
I click on the extension and it shows a button that I can turn ON or OFF. It's OFF by default. Then I click it, it turns ON and I'm asked if I want to download and install that extension. I say Yes! But then nothing happens. If I visit "Installed extensions" session, it says there are no extensions installed. And if I refresh the extension page, the ON button becomes OFF again. No matter how many times I try to do this, the result is the same. I tryed it with Iceweasel (v. 24.2.0) and Google Chrome (v. 32.0.1700.77) and default gnome-shell (v. 3.8.4).
I'm trying to install adobe flash player on wheezy (7.4). I've downloaded the package since adobe thinks apt works in a browser (it doesn't on my laptop). Anyway, I've tried installing the adobe flash player package via gdebi and it complains binutils is not installed. fine, I go to synaptic to find binutils and synaptic cannot find it. I'm not even sure why it is not installed. How to get binutils?

I am Leonardo and I like very much slack 13.1 is very robust and fast for my laptop toshiba, I have a questions about that:

when gnome 2.32 might be ready for Wheezywhen gnome 2.32 might be ready for Wheezy. I'm in hopes that Wheezy will NOT have gnome3, and I'm somewhat confident of that, but I play in both Debian and Ubuntu and I'm thinking about trying to get the Ubuntu devs to port Debian's gnome version 2.32 into their Oneiric Ocelot via package 'gnome-desktop-environment'. (It's currently at 2.30).

In a random folder, if i right click on a random file for example a pdf file, i can see in the shortcut menu that appears the choice "tags". It is clear how i can create a new tag or associate an existing tag to a specific file.
My question is, how can i search for files that have a specific tag? For example if i have two files that i already gave them the tag "test", can i use some program and find that two files by using the tag "test"?
I have the latest version of Debian Lenny AMD64 installed on my brother's computer. I am trying to get Adobe versions of flash to install on his computer. It seems no matter what I do I get the freeware version installed which unfortunately is not up to the task. If I try to remove the freeware version the package manager tells me it needs to remove the gnome as well. How can I keep the gnome and at the same time get Adobe version to install. Yes I have a multimedia repository installed and I tried reinstalling Mozilla Adobe package with no success.
Searching forums did not result in any helpful ideas.Things I have already found out from reading this forum.-I have to purge all freeware version of the Adobe flash plug-in. I can't seem to find a way to do this without removing the gnome desktop. It seems that the plug-in is a dependency for the gnome desktop environment. Yes I want to continue to use the gnome desktop environment. I have to install flashplayer-mozilla package from the Debian multimedia nonfree repository. That I can successfully do, and have done so without success. It installs successfully, but it still shows version 9 of the plug-in. I believe version 9 is the free version. What I would like to use the free version, it's just not compatible with the websites I go to.
Last week I upgraded from Squeeze to Wheezy. Everything seems to be in order, except now launching empathy will get my 4 separate GNOME keyring prompts in a row. I had started to get used to the default desktop in Wheezy, so I'd like it back if possible. When I select gnome system default, I get my desktop, but no menus or anything I can click on at all. All I can do is ctrl-alt-delete and reboot or shutdown. I run it on a Lenovo Ideapad U410.

Previously (on Lenny) I would boot my computer and it would happily boot through to the Gnome login page (the pretty graphical one). Now (on Squeeze) I get the plain old text login prompt. So I login normally and try running "startx". It comes up with a black screen and a mouse pointer. Nothing else. Ctrl+shift commands seem to work so I am able to get to another terminal. When I switch back to the first terminal there are just come Gnome startup messages.
I really need to have this working in order to do some "work". give me a sure fire way of either fixing this, even if it means instructions on re-installing Gnome? Normally I could copy log files from my Linux machine to my email computer but with no desktop I find this too difficult and really don't have the time to spend working out how to do it. (I have "work" to do as well). So, just briefly I will summarise the Xorg.0.log file:

Sound from other applications is fine. I have tried removing and reinstalling the flash packages but it did not help. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this further? I am running 11.04 64bit. It was working fine earlier but something seems to have screwed it up.

I push the buttons on my mouse and the button on the dongle to try and get them to pair, but, the dongle does not work. It is not scanning when I push the connect button.I unplug the usb dongle, and plug it in again, and this time I am able to pair them, and the mouse works. But, I have to do this every time I reboot which is a pain. I found that in the previous kernel, The Bloothtooh package is 4.91-1, but it has been upgrade to 4.91-2. So, this is creating the problem.
i have ubuntu 10 lts and have searched the forums and internet yet not resolved this issue so hope i`ve posted in the right place. i have installed, via the ubuntu software manager, the latest adobe flash as every browser i try crashes within at most ten minutes of trying to play a flash video full screen, usually within four minutes. i cannot play anything on bbc iplayer or videos fullscreen and i have no idea why. i have the latest flash plugin and have tried chromium, midori, firefox, opera, conkerer (not konqueror) and epiphany and every one crashes. tried firefox in safe mode and it still happens, opera just stops playing the video but all the other browsers crash except chromium which tells me the flash plugin stopped working. i really need it working and don`t want to have to return to windows just for flash so has any one an idea where i can start in solving it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ATI 4650 HD and using flgrx via jockey, on 10.10.X becomes unresponsive when I play flash videos inside a browser. The image freezes, and the audio track loops, with a loop length of around 0.5 seconds. The only thing I can is reboot my computer. The xorg log file contains no indication that something went wrong. The last entries in it are the monitor display modes.
I cannot switch to the open source ATI driver, as my monitor screen goes blank after booting.I have tried a fresh system install, but that hasn't worked either.

Every once in a while, clicking the fullscreen icon on a Flash video will result in the video playback overlay appearing behind the actual browser requiring the browser to be minimised to see the video. I have a VIA Epia M 5000 system with 2 western digital 1TB NAS SATA drives connected through SATA<->IDE adapter. Everything installs and writes as expected except... grub. It never boots, after a message 'Grub loading' I always get 'error: no such disk'. I've tried numerous times and has been attemping to fix the issue for the past 2 days.

I'm writing this from memory but simply the two uuids are different. Is this correct? I get those UUIDs to compare from blkid. All partitions are marked as bootable. grub-install /dev/sda and grub-install /dev/sdb produces no errors. grub-install /dev/md0 does not work, complains about superblocks or something similar.
Grub.cfg file contains insmod raid mdraid1x and similar lines, so that should be ok. Grub drops to rescue mode with message error: no such disk. Not device, but disk. Google finds many results for 'no such device' error, but I am not getting that error. 'ls' produces
(hd0) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos1) ls ANY_VALID_PATH produces empty newline being printed, nothing more.
setting prefixes manually does not work, with error message 'error: file not found'. ls (hd0,msdos1)/boot/grub also produces empty line being printed. Rescue CD and auto-assemble of md0 and md1 works, the files are there, everything okay, except grub.
I use slack 13.1 64 bits on my intel i7 machine. That is I can't find a flash-player plugin that works on all browsers. The firefox crashes on open. The release of adobe 64 bits plugin simply doesn't work on any browser. I use slack 13.1 64 plus kde. Anyone knows some that works?

Something within the group of updates which I installed last week (April 6 to 10 or so) has impaired the functionality of my mouse's scroll wheel. It will no longer scroll pages on Iceweasel, Midori, some PDF readers, PCManFM, and others. The "up arrow" and "down arrow" seem also to have been compromised. I suspect the culprit might be libx11. This is an amd64 system with the nvidia video driver.
