View 4 RepliesI'm looking for a package that will allow me to keep all my bookmarks in a library that I can access from any browser that I use such as FireFox, Chrome etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use flock 2.5.2 as my browser, and have recently been unable to save any bookmarks, and use the back and forward buttons (as there is no history being stored) . I can't drag links to the bookmark toolbar either.I am using Ultimate Edition 2.3 - which is essentially Ubuntu 9.04 underneath all the fancy bits lol.I downloaded flock as a debian package via the getdeb website. Will happily post any logs that are needed to help - I'm just clueless as to what would be a good place to start!Have tried removing flock, and re-installing, and the problem remains..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed a dual boot XP/Debian 5.0.4 setup on my Dell 5100 laptop. I now have constant problems with "resolving host" when using Debian. The connection when using a browser or downloading is noticeably slower than when using Windows or my Ubuntu install on my desktop. Also, whenever using the Debian install on my laptop, both it and my desktop, which both connect through the same Linksys router, constantly show "resolving host" (Chrome browser) until it just timeouts. Rebooting the DSL modem sometimes fixes it for a while (although it's still slow even then), but it eventually happens again. Turn off the laptop/switch to the XP OS on it, and the problems disappear on both the laptop and desktop. Is this a known problem for Debian 5.0.4?
View 7 Replies View RelatedTip: Where you have Firefox in both windows and ubuntu it can be useful to synchronise the bookmarks across both browsers. Instead of using Firefox default bookmarks use zotero plugin. Create an account at [URL]Download and install the zotero firefox plugin in both browsers (windows and ubuntu) Use the zotero synchronise feature to sync between windows and ubuntu browsers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed that the "Bookmarks" menu in Iceweasel was totally empty. I quit IW and started it again, and the problem persisted. I disabled all my addons, restarted again, and they were still gone. I tried to restore them (the backup copies are stored as JSON files in ~/.mozilla) from Bookmarks -> Organize -> Import -> Restore, but I got "unable to process the backup file" for each of the backups.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't find the little icons and tiny previews that iceweasel seems to make by grabbing an icon from a webpage at all helpful, and consider them a security risk.I have been using Debian Lenny for some time and have tried hard to foil the chrome engine (?) xul_runner (?) from sticking these icons in various places. But it still manages to stick them in, of all places, my bookmark file. How do I prevent that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm posting this here because I have no idea how to address this issue. I have an Ubuntu 11.04 with Windows XP on VirtualBox, Firefox 5 on both machines (virtual and real).I thought my connection was slow when I realized that the browser in VB was much faster than the one in Ubuntu. The problem doesn't seem to be on firefox because Chrome also is slow (I haven't checked Chrome in XP-VB).When I type an address in Firefox Ubuntu it takes a long time to show the page and sometimes the whole browser gets stuck for somewhere around a minute.

I'm running Fedora 11 64bit on an Acer Aspire 3935, dual boot with Windows Vista. I installed three days ago and the system is supposedly fully updated. While doing some routine configuring I noticed that I am unable to access the Preference window of File Management.
I want to check the box for 'always open in browser windows', but therefore I need the Preference window. When I try to access through System > Preferences > File Management, it says starting for a few seconds and then nothing. When I try to access through Computer > Edit > Preferences, the window crashes and disappears. I suppose there are other ways to change that setting, but in any case I'd like to get the general problem solved, not only the setting changed.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.0.4. I'm running a background process on system startup (Selenium) that needs to launch browsers (e.g. Firefox, Google Chrome). What settings do I need to enable in order to do this? Currently, even if I SSH in as a user, I'm not able to launch a browser and get this error ...

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to run Windows Firefox plugins/addons under Wine while the browser itself is the native Linux Firefox? For example; I am considering taking the introduction to Linux Open University course, but the course requirements state the need to use Shockwave Player. Obviously Shockwave Player is not available for Linux but it is (allegedly) possible to run both the Windows version of Firefox and Shockwave Player under Wine. I would prefer to run the Linux version of Firefox natively with only the Windows version of Shockwave Player using Wine.
Is there some method to achieve this ? Maybe there is some kind of wrapper application, something like the one used for Windows wireless networking drivers (NDISWrapper) or maybe there are instructions on how to embed the Shockwave Player using Wine in Firefox somewhere. Obviously my needs are quite specific but I am sure that being able to use Windows browser plugins/addons under the Linux version of Firefox would be of interest to at least a few other people.
Up front: the per browser (or per process, if you will) part is the important part here. I'm well aware of the /etc/hosts(and its Windows counterpart), but would like to avoid this system-global method.
What tools exist to override the IP for a given (i.e. configurable) name per browser? For Firefox there are "Modify Headers" and "Tamper Data". Both of them do not appear to be suitable for my case, because the DNS lookup is done before that. So I can only modify the HTTP headers (e.g. the Host header), but not influence the IP to which it gets sent. But manipulating to what IP it gets sent is exactly what I want to do.
I am new to Linux and decided on trying out Ubuntu. Love it so far. Running Ubuntu 64-bit 10.04 on a Toshiva Satellite L300. Network browsing worked fine to both my other machines (one running XP, the other Win7). The next day I switched the laptop on, the other two systems don't show automatically in the File Browser under Network like they used to. It now only shows a Windows Network icon which, when I click on it, gives the following error: Unable to mount location, Failed to retrieve share list from server. I can access the machines' shared folders perfectly through the terminal using smbclient.
