Aug 5, 2010Can't find info on how to move my hundreds of Camino bookmarks from a Mac G5 power-pc OSx Leopard to Ubuntu setup onto an older AMD PC. Camino doesn't appear to have a Linux version at least that I can find. If it does have one I would prefer Camino. Probably not so is it preferable in any way discernable, to the Firefox that I'm using now (doesn't look like it to me)?
Secondly, the vertical arrows for paging up and down on the screen - can't seem to find the preference that puts them together at the bottom instead of up arrow at the top and down arrow at the bottom.

Feb 4, 2010It appears that my HDD is failing at the moment, so I'm going to replace it by two new disks (RAID1) over the weekend.
At the same moment I'll stick in another 6GB RAM. Because I'm currently running the 32-bit system, I'll be upgrading to 64-bit (doh).
Now then, is it possible to copy all Firefox and Thunderbird settings (settings, accounts, bookmarks, cookies etc) over to the other disk?
If so, which folder(s) do I have to copy?

Ubuntu :: Moving Bookmarks In Firefox Causes To Freeze?
Feb 6, 2010I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop computer which runs a Core 2 Duo at 3.2ghz and I have 2 gig of RAM. I have installed all the latest Ubuntu updates.
In Firefox, I have about 70 bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar. Obviously the bar can't show 70 so most of them are in the dropdown section of the bar on the right. When I add a new bookmark, Firefox adds it to the end of the dropdown. Sometimes I want them to be closer to the top so I scroll down, click and drag it up closer to the top. In Firefox under Windows this works fine. However in Firefox under Ubuntu, as soon as I start to drag it up Firefox turns gray and Ubuntu totally locks up. Everything in Ubuntu freezes. The main bar at the top stays color, only Firefox turns gray. I tried clicking around but it's frozen. I tried pressing Esc, ctrl-alt-delete, and a number of other keys but noting will unfreeze Ubuntu. I have to physically turn off my computer and reboot.

Aug 30, 2010I have had 2 people ask me about this lately so I thought I would try it. They want to take a bookmark for a site and put it on their desktop. Seems easy enough - just drag the bookmark to the desktop. It works in chrome but when I tried it on 2 different pc's I get the same error:

Mar 28, 2011I just recently figured out how to import bookmarks with FF4. Why did Mozilla see fit to Hide the "Organize Bookmarks" behind the "Show All Bookmarks" menu is beyond me?

Ubuntu :: Disable Icons In The Firefox Bookmarks Tool Bar?
May 20, 2010Is it possible to disable the icons in the bookmarks tool bar? You know what I mean: my facebook bookmark always has this little F right next to it, the ..... bookmark has the red and white ..... icon, etc.
Those are pretty nice, but they don't really work within the theme that I am using (airlines).
To relax my eyes, I usually pick less colourful themes. So it'd be cool to get rid of all those obtrusive icons.
I know that some firefox themes don't have them. But I think I like the default one, just not the icons.
I have done a search there and I didn't find any discussion on this. My apologies if this has already been discussed. In which case, an admin can always close this thread, and redirect me.
Oh: this might be important: I am using Ubuntu 10.04. and firefox 3.6.3

Jul 18, 2010I was running OpenSuse and realized that I hated it. I backed up my bookmarks to a USB flash drive, formatted and installed Ubuntu 10.04.
On entering Ubuntu, I stuck the USB flash drive in and realized that the bookmarks never got copied. I've lost them. I have to have those bookmarks. What would be the best way to get them back?

Sep 2, 2010I just reinstalled my Firefox after a extension problem. Now it will not open my bookmark file I exported before the reinstall. It just goes to the folder above it, which is Ubuntu One. When I go back and try again, it freezes and makes it that I have to close the window and pull it back up again. How can I do this without issues?

Jan 7, 2010I have a Dell studio 1745 laptop and a homemade desktop. The laptop dual boots Winblows 7 & openSUSE 11.2 x64. The desktop has openSUSE 11.1 & Winblows XP.
I'm using Firefox on all the OSs' and would like to be able to copy only part of the bookmarks file (not the .json file). I can edit the bookmarks.html file but have trouble finding section boundaries.
Could someone recommend an editor that can display and edit html? All I've used so far are text editors.

Jan 25, 2011OS: Ubuntu 10.4 I performed a routine "apt-get update", which apparently upgraded firefox to 3.6.14. If I start FF from the root account, everything works just fine. However, if I start FF from any normal user account, I get the error message: "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem" Running FF from root does not give the error (but then, who runs FF as root?). I looked at link at [URL] And renamed the places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old as instructed. Same error. So I quit FF and completely wiped out the .mozilla folder.
FF dutifully created a new .mozilla folder, then promptly gave me the exact same error message again. This STRONGLY indicates that it is not a permissions issue (besides, I looked at the permissions and everything in the .mozilla folder is owned by the user with at least rwx------ permissions... Now I give up on this version of FF (3.6.14pre (Namoroka)) and apt-get remove it, then issue apt-get install firefox-3.5. It re-installed apt-get install firefox-3.5... (the /etc/apt/sources.list file is attached).
