View 1 RepliesInstalled Debian 8 Lxde desktop yesterday. All worked fine post install. Executed following two commands to make system up to date:-
Code: Select allapt-get update and Code: Select allapt-get upgrade
Switched off my system after using it for close to 3 hours. Today I booted my system and I could not see any GUI in action except mouse pointer. What I can only see is clicked on my camera and posted below for your review. When I get the login screen, I can choose different DE (fluxbox) and I was able to login and do some action. I don't know the reason for this sudden disappearance of desktop.
Bizarrest thing after swapping in my HDD from an old laptop into a new one. My LXDE panel temperature display is showing "-273," AKA absolute zero in celcius. I've done a bit of googling for lxde temp sensor, and most of the discussions I saw referred to installing lm-sensors, which apparently I did not yet have, although on my old laptop the temperature was shown correctly. I believe the automatic sensor location is off and I need to give it the correct location manually. I am unsure of how to do that, and it makes sense that it's hardware specific. After installing lm-sensors, I saw that sensors-detect provides me with a list of the correct temp sensors in my computer, but I'm unsure how to save those results so the computer can use them.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am testing LXDE on my test-laptop and it looks quite nice and fast. I am thinking of switching DE from Gnome.
My question: are there features in Gnome that are missing in LXDE? I can not think of any, so far. The only thing I miss so far is a possibility to edit the menu, as the menu is huge
For some reason I'm not getting the weather icons associated with displaying the kind of weather. Obviously something is missing somewhere.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently running gnome-panel inside of lxde (SOOOOO much faster than gnome), but I am receiving the following errors:
Quote:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_WorkspaceSwitcherApplet".
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_WindowListApplet".
I installed lxde for my old P2 450 system but the er.. panel? I guess? Is removed where everything is. Is there a way to get it back? It happens everytime after the second login. Even happened in 9.10 if I remember correctly. (I now have lucid). For reference: [URL] (the bottom thing with the clock, etc. )
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using LXDE and everything has been fine up until yesterday something strange happened. My panel no longer stays on top of everything. Whatever window I have open when dragged will be over it. I want the panel to go back to how it was but none of the settings seem to fix the problem. I went into the panel settings and I tried reserve space and the dock panel option but to no avail. how to restore it to being on top of everything?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Ubuntu and really like it so far, having come from a PC background up to now. I've installed it on my Acer laptop and all is well there. However, on my desktop, the screen resolution doesn't match the Ubuntu desktop and fonts and graphics are very blurry. The hardware I have is:
HP Compaq dx2450 micro-tower FE281EA
Samsung 23" widescreen monitor, native resolution 1680x1050
When I check the resolution using System > Preferences > Display it says that indeed I'm using 1680x1050, which should be correct. However, the bottom of the Ubuntu desktop is cut-off, below the bottom of the screen, so I can only see the very top edge of the bottom panel. The top panel is also slightly cut off, missing about the top 20% of the panel. Left and right seem to be in line OK. The resulting blurriness of fonts makes it fairly unusable until I get it fixed.
I've searched fairly extensively and I realise there are other threads on this so sorry for posting again, but they all seem to be slightly different problems and all the responses are fairly or very technical. Maybe I can't avoid a technical solution and getting my hands dirty with a terminal prompt, but I'm hoping I can fix this without resorting to stuff I don't understand and might get wrong. I'm a technically minded end-user but not a unix guy.
I haven't got Lubuntu as such, I've installed LXDE to try it out with Ubuntu 11.04 sometimes. For it to be practical for me I need the battery icon and Network Manager on the panel. I'm assuming this can be done easily enough as Linux Mint LXDE has got it, or Network Manager at least. i need NM to easily start my Mobile Broadband dongle's connection. Also, can touchpad tapping be turned off in LXDE, and how? I have it set up to have no tapping in regular Ubuntu but this is undone when I boot LXDE.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed ubuntu 11.04 last night. I noticed most of my effects were missing so I tried to put them back on. This didn't work so I disabled the effects. Then, my panel at the top and the Launcher is missing. .How do I get these back?
View 6 Replies View RelatedRunning Fedora 13, LXDE spin. Today, the pcmanfm package updated to version 0.9.7 during a software update. After a reboot, I no longer have desktop icons and I'm seeing the default Fedora wallpaper. Also, if I right-click on the desktop, I get a standard openbox menu instead of the LXDE one.
I would like to get my old desktop back.
I installed lxde, but my wireless internet doesn't work. I can switch back to gnome and it works perfectly. I tried wicd and manually connecting with the command line. Both fail while trying to get an ip.

Sorry, serious Ubuntu noob here. I was messing with the bar at the top (I think it's called the panel?) And now it's gone. I'm sure there must be someway to get it to show up again.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm missing my top (and only) panel, I can't access anything on my computer now except firefox and movieplayer since they are what comes up when I restart, I guess that's because I opted to save my running applications during my last session. I also did some updates... I've read a couple other posts about the same thing but they were in xubuntu and none of the fixes are valid for me...
I'm running ubuntu 9.10 just installed it last week, on my acer one netbook. everything was dandy until tonight when I rebooted and found that my panel is gone... Right click on the desktop shows no way to get it back, no route to applications or add panel. I didn't do anything to get rid of it it's just gone... Is this a known issue with the updates or kernel does anyone know?
I boot up my machine today and the Volume Control, which I use a lot, is missing from my panel!Anybody know how I get that back? I figured I could just right-click the panel and choose it from "Add to Panel".. but there is no Volume Control in there?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI accidentally removed the wireless internet indicator from my panel. I looked up the problem and the best I have come up with is how to get it back TEMPORARILY, using terminal. When I type in "nm-applet", in terminal, it brings it back, but if I close terminal, it disappears with it. So, I have to essentially keep the terminal window, or lose the internet. It blows my mind that such a simple thing is taking so much effort and inquiry.
