Qt apps like vlc, kolourpaint, qbittorrent are missing the windows controls like menus. Smplayer crash on opening a video(any format). I'm using mate with marco wm, I also tried openbox but is the same.
View 1 RepliesI'm running Debian Lenny with GNOME on a ThinkPad T43. Some OpenGL apps like the game Trigger run great, while others like Stellarium crash my system beyond recovery. I get a black screen, I can see the mouse cursor and move it at a very slow speed, but nothing else. I can't switch to a different terminal or restart X with ctrl-alt-bksp.
I assume that the problematic apps do not like the laptop's integrated graphics chip? Is there a way to know ahead of time what apps might be troublesome, before actually running them? I hate hard resets.
I was wondering what is happening to my computer. It runs perfectly fine, until out of nowhere my CPU load goes up to 100% for no reason, and in the System Monitor, the process that I think is responsible is the "uninterruptible process". It's so far been chrome, firefox-bin, and now gnome-netstatus-applet.
Is this a hardware problem or buggy software? Because I honestly don't know what it is. I've even reinstalled the programs and rebooted several times, most of the reboots were because of my computer crashing every time!
Just put 11.04 on my core2 machine (3 GB ram, Nvidia 250 gts) and graphics just aren't right. Installed the recommended Nvidia driver, did updates. Where is my X to close apps? used to be at top right of running apps. Can't drag apps around by the top bar anymore. Enabled Desktop switcher and it doesn't work. Won't switch desktops. Are these bugs I'm experiencing or what?

View 6 Replies View RelatedUsing Debian stable. 64-Bit. I can play videos and music using Totem and VLC. And I can play audio files with audacious and Rhythmbox. And I can play flash in firefox and google-chrome. But, if I open audacious and then play a flash file in Firefox or google-chrome audacious crashes as well as other multimedia players that I have open such as Totem, VLC and/or Ryhthmbox.
Would like to know if you can offer some troubleshooting steps to take so that I can play a flash file in a browser and still play an mp3 file in the audio player without having to kill those processes and restart.
I often connect to my main box via ssh and then run 'screen.' View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem getting a winTV card working. Looks like the card installs correctly and I know the card works ok. I get "no device" when trying to use TV apps (kdetv, tvtime, xawtv). They look for the device at video0 but mine gets configured as video1. How can I change that? I have tried using ivtv-ctl -d /dev/video1 to change the device but that didn't help.

Inside /etc/rc2.d/ I've a link to launch a full screen opengl application (a game). After several minutes the X crash.
To try a little this issue, instead of launching my app, I tried to launch "xinit glxgears" using a link in /etc/rc2.d. After 5 reboots, the glxgears crashes 5 times with the same dmesg message.
If I uninstall splashy or instead of launching glxgears using a link in /etc/rc2.d I launch it from the console, the crash never happens.

All qt4 apps tray icons are missing. Debian decided to drop sni-qt support and wmsystemtray is actually piece of shit. Also I can't even use ubuntu version of sni-qt, because it also needs to have patched version of qt4, but debian refused to include that patches. What should I do to make skype icon visible in kde5 tray?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI got a problem with gstreamer programs and pulseaudio. I am running Debian Squeeze and needed to install pulseaudio to get better bluetooth-headset support. After installing everything every application except gstreamer applications could access the sound server the right way. Even flash and sdl are running via ALSA routing to pulse.
If I start programs running with gstreamer they crash with a segmantation fault. Totem does not start anyway. If I run it in the terminal it crashes immediately with a segmantation error. The debug mode prints out $ totem --debug

I have installed the gstreamer plugin for pulseaudio and the gstreamer-plugins-good and bad. I started gstreamer-properties and choosed the right output driver. When testing the peep comes out of the right output.
Via google I founded some bugs, that were similiar to mine. But they had made the mistake not to install the plugins. I also can not choose ALSA in gstreamer and do the routing way. The programs using gstreamer simply crashing. I tried exaile. It also crashes the same way like rhythmbox. Is it a real bug? Or can I do something against that. VLC and kaffeine running very well. But I would be sad about not being able to use rhythmbox. I like that fast program. Or is there a way to get rhythmbox tto not using gstreamer?
Just for the fun and learning experience I am working on a minimal install with Squeeze +IceWM. The goal is to make a livecd with a set of privacy apps - like Iceweasel with Tor/privoxy and some encryption tools. Everything is working out just fine, but I thought it would be very nice to have an installer. I read about the refractainstaller and refractasnapshot in this post, and thought they sound like a good solution: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=54635#p315738 However, the links seem to be dead and so were all the mirrors I tried. Does anyone know where these files can be found or any other easy way I can make Debian installable from a livecd?

On Wheezy I was using Scribus also, but without such problems. Unfortunately I often need to use the text editing in the layout mode in order to adjust the text flow for the final layout.
I've just installed a new Debian Jessie with gnome from zero, and I have installed Xbmc on it. when I open xbmc on gnome interface, it crash and log out from gnome.
On the xbmc crash log I find several errors, browsing them on the network I didn't find anything.

Aprox. 1 time per day / every two days hangs the x-server. It hangs a few secs then is being killed and restarted. A popup window in the task bar tells me the restart of the x-server. After that about 15 sec. I can continue to work but sometimes the gtk2 apps lose their integrity thus I have to restart by logging off and in again.

I have headless debian as a server which i use over tightvnc server running on it. Vnc works fine but I can't for example run sudo mousepad or any other gui app from terminal, it says something about not having the rights to open it as root. I understand this has something to do with security, but my computers are behind nat so the vnc server can only be connected inside my lan so i don't mind.

Anyway, I'm on Debian 8.4 with MATE, only main repo enabled, all packages up-to-date. I turn on ibus (via a keyboard shortcut that runs "ibus-daemon -dx") when I need to type in Portuguese or Esperanto. When I'm done, I quit ibus either by right-clicking its tray icon and choosing "quit" or by using a keyboard shortcut to "killall ibus-daemon". Unfortunately, regardless of how I quit ibus, iceweasel and icedove crash every time ibus quits.
I tried running ibus with "ibus-daemon -d" instead of the above command. Now there are no crashes when I quit ibus BUT iceweasel and icedove ignore ibus altogether (i.e., I cannot type special characters--keyboard input is as if ibus were off).
How to start and stop ibus in a way that both a) causes it to work in all applications including iceweasel and icedove AND b) iceweasel and icedove don't crash when ibus quits?
I can't setup or change MIME-Types in Mate/Caja (filemanager)
I use MATE Desktop on Debian 8.1 - File Manager is Caja (1.8.2) - I put in a USB Stick whit Pics. In the Popup Window they came up, normally i can setup a Default behavior for Pics, Music ... But, in my Window the Options are not available. (Grey) The same in "Settings" from Caja (Datenträger) Data Medium.
What can i do to set MIME Types in Mate?
MPlayer was working just fine last night, but today I'm having problems which may be due to me performing a system update. I noticed that MPlayer was no longer listed in my Applications menu and I no longer had the option of opening videos with it. However, I now had Gnome MPlayer which must have been installed with the update because I never installed it. Whilst going through Synaptic, I found that the MPlayer GUI had been removed, so I re-installed it. However nothing happened when I attempted to open videos with it.
When I tried to use it through the terminal I got the error message:
mplayer: relocation error: mplayer: symbol codec_wav_tags, version LIBAVFORMAT_52 not defined in file libavformat.so.52 with link time reference
I found a bug report on this very problem here [URL]. The conclusion was that the person filing the bug report was using a version of ffmpeg not found in Debian and that he'd need a version of MPlayer built with his version of ffmpeg libs. I'm assuming that this is also the case with me, however I'm not sure how to go about finding a build or simply building a version of MPlayer with whatever version of ffmpeg that I'm using. For reference, I'm using Squeeze.
I have Debian Testing. My theme is Equinox Light and it was working well except for "Passwords and Encrypton keys" app (Version3.02). That doesn't bothered me. But after todays upgrade from gnome-terminal (2.3.2-1) to gnome-terminal3 Equinox theme doesn't work. My themes are installed in /usr/share/themes folder. It doesn't matter if i copy them to my home theme folder. It seems that gnome3 apps doesn't support
Reverting to previous version fixes the problem but i want to have version 3 with nice theme. Ho w can i achieve it?
I can't get flash controls to work. If the video auto-plays, it starts just fine, if not, I'm out of luck. I've tried reinstalling flash through the software center. Even if it autoplays, I can't control volume or pause or anything. I'm at the mercy of whatever is already there. I have both a 64bit 10.04 install with firefox 3.6.6 and flash player 64bit version 10 and a 32bit 10.04 netbook edition with firefox 3.6.6 and flash player 10.1. They both are missing the overlay controls.Here's an example link:The pbs kids site has the "BIG" button which allows me to go fullscreen, but then I just get audio on the 64bit machine. I haven't tested that on the netbook version yet.

I was using Kmix today without issue and accidentally (perhaps out of curiosity) clicked the 'close' box on the tab which presented all of the volume controls. The thing is, I cannot seem to find out how to recreate it. I seem to recall there was some option to create multiple volume control tabs, but I cannot locate.
Could someone point me in the right direction on how to recreate the tab or delete the kmix settings/config which I assume would re-create defaults?
I am running Karmic 64bit on a frankenstein desktop. I am using an old Creative Soundblaster card with the live drive front panel. Ever since I started using Karmic I have lost many functions, there are no bass and treble controls, and no other controls other than volume and balance. Am I missing some vital drivers?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do i change the channel gnome-volume-control controls? I want it to control pcm but it controls master front. There used to be a setting right in the sound preferences but i think it disappeared with the 9.10 upgrade or at least i can not find it anymore. I've looked on the at gnome alsa mixer while changing the volume and master front gets controlled while pcm is always set to max. The problem with this is that master front does almost nothing to change the actual volume.
If i control pcm with the alsa mixer the volume range is fine. I've found a manual for gnome-volume-control on [URL].en and the pic there actually looks like i remember it looking. But i can not get to that screen. What i have looks completely different. Its a window with the tabs Sound Effects | Hardware | Input | Output | Applications. But there is no sight of any channel settings and the only slider there does the same as the applet one.
