I prefer to use the single-click behavior under KDE 4.4.5 / Squeeze / AMD64. All KDE applications honor the single-click settings, but GTK-based applications don't. Is there a way to configure GTK so that all file dialogs are indeed single-click?

What is the best way to do this in slackware?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing xubuntu 9.10 and attempting to change double mouse click starts to single click, there is no difference.
Example:Applications tab, settings, file manger, Behavior and then select single mouse click instead of double mouse click, renders no change in behavior what-so-ever.
Anyone else experienced this?
One recurring issue I seem to have is that whenever I use rhythmbox, I'll play a song that I like as I edit my music library to my liking. Sometimes though, rhythmbox seems to register my single-click on a song as a double-click, and it will start playing it. Anyone else have this issue? It's not really that big of a deal, but if I were ever to have a party at my place,
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter 5+ years of using Ubuntu, I am switching to it as my desktop. On my old FreeBSD desktop i was running KDE3; now I am runnung 10.04.1 and find that even tho things are more friendly with KDE4, one of the tools I use most,kttsmgr, no longer works like it did on my previous desktop.
How can I configure kttsmgr to use festival (right now it says "espeak") and to present the dialogue that prints the strings beneath what is being read? --Note that I downloaded flite and eflite for testing purposes. Both fail. not a peep. I do have audio with songs and can listen to streams, but nothing from ktts*
where can I change the single click into a double click (because I'm a windows user (sorry!))? The mouse model does not support this.
View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.
About a week ago I installed some updates. What they were I don't remember. After I did that my mouse started acting up. Now about half the time when I single click it registers as a double click. Also when I click and drag to select text anywhere it'll randomly do another click screwing up that process.
So far I think the problem is when I press the left mouse button it registers the left click and then when I release, it randomly registers another left click.
The mouse itself works fine if I take it to another PC that's using windows.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 64bit
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0
mouse menu different in 10.10, is there a way to make the mouse single click instead of double click?

If I normally click the Trash icon either in Kmail or in Evolution more than one mail gets deleted in a sequential order! I have to press the click button extremely light to avoid this problem. I have confirmed this problem is not only with the Email clients but even with most other normal applications too. I have changed my mouse twice but the problem persists. Both were USB mice. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS has no immediately apparent way that I can see for changing the mouse behavior from the default double-click to single-click. There appears to be some type of kludgy, but unsatisfactory fix for this unwanted behavior in the Accessibility-option, under Mouse-Preferences.

I am having trouble getting my USB flash drive (formatted in Fat32) to be recognised in Kde4 (I do not run Gnome so I can not test it there). It does not show up automatically in "Devices recently plugged in" (on the taskbar) and I can not find it in either /media or /mnt.
When I plug the drive in the light on the drive flashes and here is the output of dmesg and lsusb
I'm running Squeeze with KDE 4.4.5 in my desktop. Everything seems to be fine, except for some unresponsiveness that is really annoying. The main problem (but this also reflects on other uses, though in a less intense manner) is when K3b is burning or erasing anything (including CD-R and CD-RW). The whole system becomes unusable. Not even a Konsole window can return from a "aptitude search something" query.
I have a Intel i7 920 system with 6GB RAM and two 1.5TB disks. I use an AMD Radeon 4890 video card with their proprietary drivers (at least for now it is the only option). I also have an extra Audigy sound card. I thought that such a system would be enough to have a good desktop experience while multitasking. What might be wrong?
I updated my system as usually. Sadly since then my screen flickers every 10 (or so) seconds. It turns black for like 10ms and then back to whatever it showed before. This behavior occurs after some uptime. Haven't measured the flicker-free time span yet but I guess it starts after 15 to 30 minutes.I'm using a up-to-date Squeeze with KDE4 an the nvidia-driver for me GeForceGo. Interesting thing is: It does not flicker while using fluxbox using same xserver.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo far I have just used the CLI to upgrade KDE, and I get notified of upgrades once a day, where a popup shows when new upgrades are available. However, when I push the "install upgrades" button, nothing happens. In Gnome, all I had to do was click the update notifier and click install. I am pretty confident the same is posible in KDE4. I have searched the web trying to find a solution, but I can't find anything. I am probably missing some packages. Can someone help me configure:
1. Update intervals for the KDE update manager, and
2. GUI updates for the KDE4 desktop.
Is there a way to set up KDE4 Konqueror so that middle click opens a file like in KDE3? In KDE3 Konqueror, middle clicking on a particular file would have the same effect as double clicking on it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedGot a problem with the plasma network management widget. Let's say I connect to a wireless network at my office called "Network A". I then go home and try connecting to my wireless network, "Network B". Assume each has WEP encryption. When I click on my home network, the wallet-manager pops up first. I enter my password. I then see that instead of adding a new network, it has "Network A" selected for editing. This happens every single time. What is going on here? I don't want a bunch of posts naming WICD either. I want to use the plasma widget because I like it. So what's up with it overwriting other network connections when you try adding a new one?
View 8 Replies View RelatedThere seems to be something that has changed in the newest stable Debian - I chose kde4 as my default desktop at installation, and it worked fine. Then I went and changed some options in both /var/run/kdm/kdmrc and /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc, something I have done many times before without problems.
However, when I tried to restart kdm with /etc/init.d/kdm, things didn't come up - no X, no kdm. When I rebooted the machine everything seemed fine, so I thought the problem was solved; but this morning I wanted to change something else - I don't want kdm to remember the last user, and I don't want to see a list of users either. Now dkm and X fail even when I reboot; I also find that /var/run/kdm/kdmrc has disappeared - I am certain I didn't remove it.
The strange thing, when I try /etc/init.d/kdm, I can kdm hanging around all alone in the process list, but no X or greeter. So what is going on - what should I have done instead? And can I repair it? I can of course reinstall the system, but I hate to think that we can't manage better in Linux.
I want window to be closed when i middle click on the corresponding taskbar item. Can this is be configured in KDE4?

This is a simple .conkyrc tweak that doesn't need feh, it doesn't have the distracting faun shadow-border and most importantly, it doesn't disappear when you click your desktop (On my system anyway). These are the relevant sections to edit:

I found that getting rid of the own_window_argb_values yes suggested in other fixes and replacing it with a specific alpha and then changing window type to override solved all my issues. I've noticed no bugs or strange happenings. This seems to be a common problem with a lot of workaround solutions. I think this is a much more elegant way. Edit: Not persistant... After 2 reboots it's back to normal.
I recently installed into ubuntu 10.04 the package called "ubuntustudio-audio", it's a collection of audio apps from the ubuntustudio distribution. I tested them, and I wanted to uninstall just a pair of them... but synaptic tells me it's not possible, unless I uninstall the whole "ubuntustudio-audio" package..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been mostly using XFCE for a long time, but I'm finally giving KDE4 a serious try. Overall I like it pretty well, but there's one thing I like in XFCE that I can't replicate in K: I want to be able to right-click on the desktop to bring up the full apps menu. On XFCE the default behaviour is that right-clicking anywhere on the desktop background (anywhere not on a window, basically) will bring up the full "Start" menu with all the app categories, preferences/settings, etc. (I put "Start" menu above in quotes because I know that's really Windows-specific terminology. So no need to give me crap about that, kids.) Right now, when I right-click on the desktop in K I get a small menu with Konsole, Run, Activities, and Desktop Settings. What I want to happen is a full launcher menu like I have on the panel.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just installed my hard drive with 10.04 running Gnome into a "new" computer with an Intel dual core CPU. Everything seems to work fine except that my USB mouse won't left-click within applications. It works OK on the desktop to open or close applications, but, besides a visual affect when I click, nothing works within windows.
This occurs even after switching to a PS2 mouse...I've also discovered that right-clicking on the desktop produces nothing at all and right-clicking within an application produces the "maximize/minimize" menu - as though the mouse was hovering over the frame controls.
I am using a Sharp Netwalker with the Netbook Remix Gnome desktop. Double-clicking to start applications using the touch screen is cumbersome, so I wanted to try setting Gnome for single-click operation. I can't find any obvious way to do that.

I get "no device" when trying to use TV apps (kdetv, tvtime, xawtv). They look for the device at video0 but mine gets configured as video1. How can I change that? I have tried using ivtv-ctl -d /dev/video1 to change the device but that didn't help.

I also have difficulty when using a mouse of moving the mouse as I select something (click the button) from whatever window I am working with and thereby selecting the wrong thing. To compensate for this difficulty, I use a Logitech trackball and program the center button to perform a double click with one stroke. I am currently struggling with Linux Mint 9 in my search for a Windows alternative. Is there any way to program my center button (scroll wheel) to perform a double click in this or any other Linux version? Alternatively, is there any way to program a keyboard key to perform a double mouse click with a single stroke? I do not want any multiple key combinations for this operation, I want something that works with a single click of one button.
