May 7, 2010I have an issue with my Ubuntu both 9.10 nad 10.04.I had the video worked perfectly untill yesterday but now i can see the video hear the noise (cars, music) but no voice of human.

Jun 26, 2011I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Everything works well, but I have problem with sound. Output is OK as I can hear any sound from the computer; but there is no input sound from the mic. I am unable to record any voice or talk in voice chat.

Jun 4, 2011I want to do some amateur voice over works. I need an audio editor that can also play the video simultaneously to sync with the character's lip movements.The problem is my video sources are in h264 mkv, I guess it is not very friendly with many softwares.
Here's what I've searched (tried some of them too) and the results:LiVES -> can't compile with kernel 2.6.38, the offered patch (in sf) rejected (maybe different source file from the one specified in the patch)Cinerella, can't accept mkv or mp4. (after that I tried to get the source video loaded to Cinerella)x264, transcoding to lower the resolution -> no avi container output, sync problem with raw h264 stream outputavidemux_qt, trying to mux the transcoded video to avi -> crashed with h264 input video, either in elementary stream or matroska format (I doubt Cinerella will accept avi videos with h264 codec, if I could ever make one)ffmpeg, transcode from h264 to xvid -> shared library error: libavutil.so.49 not found xvidenc shell script -> no mencoder (I'm using mplayer2)

Jun 25, 2010I have a problem regarding speech recording and i couldn't find a way around it. I want to record voice while at the same time processing it. Let me explain some more, what i want to do is to keep on speaking and it should be recorded in a file which i can process at the same time. If somebody knows of any such program or way to do this(like some code in C which can auto direct the recorder to keep on recording and saving).

Dec 18, 2010I'm running Ubuntu Maverick on an Intel H55 mobo. I have the sound configured to output through speakers on my monitor, via HDMI. That has been working fine. Last night I installed Skype (2.1.0.81) in order to chat to someone back in UK. When I go to the sound devices configuration in Skype, each of the devices (Microphone, Speakers and Ringing) only have a single choice: 'PulseAudio server (local)'.
In order to get my usb-connected phone handset working with Skype I have had to go to the main sound preferences and alter both input and output to '9980 Analog'. This works fine - I can make a Skype test call and playback my own voice. However, all my system sounds now go out on the usb phone handset - also the Skype ring goes to the handset, which is pretty useless because it can't be heard from more than a couple of feet away.
How can I make Skype use the 9980 device for voice in and out, and use the system speakers 'Internal Audio Digital (HDMI)' for the ringing, while leaving all the system sounds to go out on the HDMI output too? I'm sure that I managed to make Skype work much better on an older system (using Gutsy, or Intrepid???). It seems, to me that there is a lack of fine audio control in my system.

The machine is to be completely controlled by voice and would be programmed to issue vocals in response to vocal requests for what is in the various databases and I/O software, such as motion control and other sensor subsystems. In other words, a program that lends itself to AI robotics.I do not have the time to develop CMSphinx, and I am willing to pay. I have been on a few sites but they are cryptic as far as the technicals, which I do not fully understand anyway.

Apr 4, 2010I cannot get AVI videos to play with the Totem movie player that comes bundled with Ubuntu 8.04 on the Dell Mini 9. I keep getting: "Could not determine type of stream." Randomly, one or two of the dozen or so videos on my SD card will work, but most will not. This is very frustrating because all the videos I download are always in AVI format.
I tried used the synaptic package manager find an alternative player and tried MPlayer, but that didn't do anything. I'd just get a blank screen on everything. Using the tutorial in this forum, I got GNOME Mplayer, which also didn't work, but even a video that worked with Totem would only play audio with GNOME Mplayer.
I looked in the repository for video codec updates but didn't see any. What do I do? Is there like a Winamp for Linux? This is a total bummer. I just want to play AVI files that are so commonly used for video.

I was using avidemux but when I went to save it again it said I needed the start point to be a keyframe. It allowed me to save it as an avi, but the color was distorted. I am fine with using avidemux if I can get around this keyframe problem.

Aug 30, 2010I've been trying to convert flv videos to MP4 so that I can load them onto my iPod Classic 160 G (video).
So far no program has successfully converted an flv file to a usable mp4.I've tried Avidemux (both gtk and qt), Kdenlive, WinFF, Mobile Media Converter, DownloadHelper (FireFox addon) Tragtor and of course the King of them all- FFMPEG. Not one of the previously mentioned programs has successfully and consistently converted an FLV to mp4 for my ipod.
It could be that I'm doing something wrong with FFMPEG or don't have the correct codecs (whatever the heck they are?!) installed or that I voted for McGovern in '68. The "help" from FFMPEG both IRC and their obnoxious email list is beyond deplorable.
Anyway, I need to know a reliable and consistent way to turn flv or any other videos into an MP4 format that will run on my iPod. The program must reside on my machine and not some online converter service. If I have to use FFMPEG (which I understand most programs use as their core) I need to know how to do it....and for God's sake don't tell me to read the online documentation at FFMPEG..

Oct 25, 2010I have some 10hrs videos with around 6GB in size. Unfortunately avidemux2_cli runs into problems copying certain parts of it into an output file (frames get blur).
So I tried ffmpeg, but even if I use the sameq switch (same quality as source video), the output video is not a 1:1 copy of the source video. In fact the output video is encoded again (and sound is not as in the source video) and that takes ages against a copy activity by avidemux. Is there any other cli program for simply copying parts out of videos?

Besides the original player, i have installed and tried to watch videos in VLC, SMPlayer and GNOME MPlayer but it has always some kind of error. In VLC I can hear the sound. On all others the file simply doesn't work.
