Did not find much here regarding building Gnome 2.30 from source. I'm using jhbuild to build the gnome 2.30 desktop. I have everything, to my knowledge, installed to build gnome. I get an error when trying to build the libIDL library. Anyone have any clue as to what I need installed or changed in the configuration file to build libIDL?

There is actually another problem with the computer which is "The Nautilus application has quit unexpectedly" everytime I open File Browser application or right-click>Properties a file/directory. This happen only after installing cairo and pango and I don't know how to revert to old version. Since there are a lot of log files so I'm very confused. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently updated my GNOME installation from 3.x to 3.14. Suddenly, there are many glitches. The power buttons on the power menu does nothing, I am forced to shut down via the terminal, everything goes black every now and again, and there is a weird colour pattern behind some icons when I hover over them. But most importantly, the icons and text do not show up on the "Activities -> Show Applications -> All" menu. They still there, as you can see the opening animation before they disappear, and I can click on them, but you just can't see them. The "Frequent" menu works fine. What are the differences if I build (./configure, make, make install) an app when log in as root vs a "regular" user other than I have to use sudo for make install? If an app is built from a non-root account, will it be available to every other user on the system?

I have some trouble with the installation. Sometimes the desktop just freezes while moving Icons, or opening Xterm. I cannot use Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, OR Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys. I have to physically reboot. Why doesn't Ctrl-Alt-Backspace work on GNOME? Is there a IRC chat for Debian Help and what applications does one use on GNOME for IRC chat?

1- When I try to run the "make menuselect" command, I get an error stating that I need ncurses which is missing. I tried to get it installed but didn't get to do it yet.
2- After that, there's the command "make" I think it's to build the package. Yet again this fails, and the error I get is "you do not appear to have the sources for the 2.6.26-2-686 kernel installed".

I have been trying to install a new driver for my wireless USB adapter, and I've been getting some "make" command problems and error messages. Specifically, I am installing the RaLink rt2570 USB Enhanced Driver to work with my Linksys WUSB100 adapter (chipset RaLink Rt2870).

I use gnome-mplayer 1.0.0 and Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 to view videos Both read subtitles well from srt files. But both are not able to read {a6} command in the srt files.
NOTE:- {a6} command serves the purpose of putting the subtitles on top of the screen, making it possible for subbers to display lyrics/additional footnotes on top, while at the same time, having the dialogues to show in their usual position.
Is there are way to force either of them to read the special commands properly?
