General :: OpenSuse: Build Is Installed But Not Recognized By Make?

Jul 3, 2010

I was trying to follow instructions in [URL]

There is a reference to build in my kernel (with red background), se below:

linux-om4s:/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-default # ls
build modules.alias modules.alias.temp modules.builtin.bin modules.dep.bin modules.symbols source updates
kernel modules.alias.bin modules.builtin modules.dep

[Code]....

Both make and build have been properly installed in Software Manager.

OpenSUSE :: Make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/build: No Such File Or Directory

Feb 17, 2010

I'm attempting to install a WLAN card driver from source, as that's all that's available.I'm getting:

make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/build: No such file or directory

Build appears to be a link pointing to "/usr/src/linux-2.6.31.5-0.1-obj/x86_64/desktop"."linux-2.6.31.5-0.1-obj" doesn't exist.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Build / Make Custom Driver Into Kernel?

Mar 29, 2009

I'm new to linux and recently installed openSUSE 11.1 on my Lenovo Thinkpad SL500. So far it's great... only problem is the hotkeys and brightness control don't work. Digging around online I found this "experimental" driver that purportedly works fine, but I have no idea how to compile, install, or otherwise use it. Here... tetromino's lenovo-sl-laptop at master - GitHub I'm not sure what to do with the makefile and C file provided. For example, what do I do with this instruction...

"To enable the brightness control, load the module with the "control_backlight=1" module parameter (i.e. insmod lenovo-sl-laptop.ko control_backlight=1 )" I know someone on here will be able to explain how to do this in a "computer engineering for chemists" language! I'm comfortable enough working in the terminal with commands, but have found no real straightforward explanation of how to do so (only "programming" experience is MATLAB m file writing).

Ubuntu :: Sd Card Not Recognized - How To Make It Recognized

Jun 2, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04. The drive was formatted when I installed so it's 100% Ubuntu. The only major problem I have encountered is that Ubuntu will not recognize my SD cards. I really need to access these cards, all my film footage is on there. I think the internal SD card reader (If such a thing exists) would have been deleted during the installation process. I am a greenthumb to Ubuntu and have never used it before so I am rather stuck...

General :: Wireless Network Adapter Recognized Or Driver Installed?

Jan 17, 2011

I am brand new to Linux and Ubuntu. However it was very easy and smooth to install and get updated using my wired ethernet connection. I am now trying to understand how to have my wireless network adapter recognized or driver installed. I will be searching around the forums but it suggested I make an initial post as a new user. I am using an older Dell Inspiron 2200. I believe the chipset in my wireless adapter is indeed Broadcomm, so hopefully that will help direct any responses.

General :: Can't Build RRDTool On RHEL4 - 'make' Command Give Error Message

Mar 19, 2010

I'm new to LinuxQuestions and this is my first post. I'm trying to build rrdtool to install Cacti and encountered the following problem: 'make' step returns an error messages:

Code:
./.libs/librrd.so: undefined reference to `xmlTextReaderGetParserLineNumber'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
What I have doneDownload and build the latest version of pkg-config, glib, pixman, cairo, pango, atk, gtk+ from official sites.
Download rrdtool source
Set PKG_CONFIG_PATH correctly

There is actually another problem with the computer which is "The Nautilus application has quit unexpectedly" everytime I open File Browser application or right-click>Properties a file/directory. This happen only after installing cairo and pango and I don't know how to revert to old version. Since there are a lot of log files so I'm very confused. Can someone give me a direction on how to resolve this?

OpenSUSE :: Find All The Build-deps Or What They Are For That Matter To Build Boxee

Feb 20, 2010

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:

1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.

2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.

What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

Fedora :: Openoffice Installed But Not Recognized

Oct 29, 2010

I have openoffice installed but when I click on .odt or any other file types associated with it, it opens the archive manager. For now, I have added the application using "soffice" which will open it. But I have to right click every time I open it, which I don't like, and is a little bit embarrassing when I show off my system to those poor prisoners of microsoft.

I had a hayell of a time getting it installed! I used the software manager which finally worked. But it never put any menu shortcuts in the applications menu, so I had to go on an easter egg hunt to actually find this "soffice" thing, which actually only opens up the general Open Office project manager. In short, what I need is for Open Office files to open with Open Office.

General :: External TB HD Not Recognized By OpenSUSE 11.3/

Jan 16, 2011

I have gone through Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, and continue using them on different PCs but I recently had a problem with my graphics card on new releases.. another story all together. So I am using OpenSUSE 11.3 on my Dell inspiron 1526 AMD 64 bit. I have always been able to plug in my external HD and have it show on my desktop. Now with OpenSUSE something is different. I tried other flash drives, all show up and open to view on their own, but my 1GB ext HD doesn't. I am not a pro with the Terminal yet but I prefer to use it and am good at reading and copying commands from online.

I have been trying other distros (OpenSuse 11.3 being my current distro). However when i plug in my mp3 player to my OpenSuse box, it doesn't show up in the side bar of Rhythmbox like in Ubuntu. I have shutdown my firewall, i compared the installed plugins under the OpenSuse Rhythmbox to those under Rhythmbox under Ubuntu and they are the same. i've tried Googleing my problem and have not found a solution. Either i am not entering the correct search terms, or NOBODY else is having the same problem i am. I have OpenSuse installed on both my laptop and my desktop and I have the same problem with both.
