Debian Installation :: KDE Will Not Start Again After Sleep

With Debian 8 (keeped up to date), after a sleep my DE (kde) will not start again. If I look to dmesg, the only strange things i see are:

I can't get debian 5.0.4 i386 to load I can get as far as root for crash repair during boot-up but much further than that and my monitor turns off. Ubuntu 8.04.4 live cd (kernel is 2.6.24 i believe) works but says I have to enter noapic in the boot string. APIC is on and greyed out i.e. not accessible in BIOS --- might be non-compliant Only thing I can think of is to add acpi=off in GRUB entry but the change doesn't seem to work or take effect. I added it to the relevant entries in menu.lst in grub and it still didn't take effect. Grub must be getting its config info somewhere else...

Conky does not start during start up.I used this script, It has execute permission also!But it did not start! What is the problem!It works manually when i run that script!
Note: It is not working in the background also at startup as i checked it -When is run killall conky it showed No such process

i have the following problem which i couldnt solve in the past weeks. We have two Server with an onboard "Atheros AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10)" and a quad "Realtek RTL8111/8168B" network adapter connected via PCIe. One of the servers is running Debian Wheezy with a custom 3.2.53Kernel (compiled from linus repository) and the second one runs Debian Jessie with stock kernel. Both are running XFCE4.
Each of the computers are connected to a local network (192.168.0.1 respectively .2) and to the intranet of our institute (10.20.0.81 respectively .82). After a random time they are not accessible via the intranet (ping doesnt work, ssh gives no route to host). However, i can still ping them over the local network. Also, at the moment i try to establish a ssh connection over the local network, the computer is again acessible via the intranet.
I already tried the boot options acpi=off and pcie_aspm=off without success. Additionally we switched from the onboard Atheros NIC to the Realtek, but everything stays the same. Therefore i don't believe that it is driver related.
For me it looks like that the NIC goes to an energy saving mode which is not handled correctly by our intranet. However, how can i avoid that the NIC goes to energy saving state? Is there a way to disable the D-states?

I'm using a laptop as a mini server, but I haven't figured out how to sleep the display. I am not using the gnome desktop - I shut the lid but the display stays on.

I have installed Debian 8.1 with KDE desktop on Lenovo t431s with intel HD4000 graphics.
When using it with dual monitor configuration, I experience the problem when I put system to sleep (by closing the lid), then remove the external monitor cable (from miniDP port) and then try to wake system from sleep. The login screen freezes and I am unable to move the mouse or type in credentials. In case I had music player running I can hear the music after system wake , but it shutters while playing.
This does not happen on some other distributions, but the problem is that I very much like my current setup and I would like to fix this problem and keep it.
I do not know if this problem is due to KDE or KDM or it's Debian base.

Just recently I notice this behavior. When the machine sleeps either on timeout or after closing the lid, it doesn't come back on opening or hitting esc etc..
The machine seems to come back to life, but the screen stays black. I even tried Ctl-Alt-F1 with no response.
uname -a yields

I have installed squeeze base system (text only), nvidia graphic drivers and then installed xorg. Trying to startx gave me these errors on the console.

I am reporting two problems that could be related to each other. They have something to do with USB devices upon passing through the ACPI S3 sleep-resume cycle. The hardware is Thinkpad T450s, with Debian 8 64-bit edition. Kernel is provided by either the stock linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64 or Liquorix's linux-image-4.1-3.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 . For this case, it does not matter; the problem exists in both versions.
I have an external USB hub which has a USB keyboard receiver (for Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combo) attached to the hub. I then usually attach this hub to the laptop.
FIRST: The main problem is that the USB hub was not going to be re-detected upon resumption from sleep. Here is the sequence of events, in brief:
* Laptop was resumed from S3 sleep
* USB hub was attached to the laptop (has external keyboard receiver attached to the hub)--both were detected & working properly
* Laptop was put to S3 sleep
* Laptop was resumed from S3 sleep, both hub and external keyboard were not detected, the syslog says "USB disconnect" to that particular device.
Note that during all the actions above, the laptop is running by external AC power.
SECOND: I also found that the USB hub, if inserted while the laptop was asleep (before resumed), it would not get detected. `lsusb` turns nothing for that device, as if nothing was inserted in the laptop's USB port.
THIRD: I did an experiment this way: instead of putting keyboard receiver on the hub, I attached it to the laptop directly. Hub is still attached elsewhere on the laptop as well. In this way, the keyboard receiver is not malfunctioning after resume. But I found out that the keyboard receiver is behaving funny after resumption. It went to a kind of "very low power" state a lot when idling (not receiving keystroke/mouse movement) for more than about 3 seconds. This causes the external keyboard response to be sluggish, since the receiver has to be turned on back to "active" state before able to responsively receive keystrokes properly again. And this causes a lot of lost keystrokes.
In the second case, the sequence of events are like this:
* Laptop was resumed from S3 sleep
* USB hub was attached to the laptop; it is working
* External keyboard receiver was attached to the laptop; it is working
* Laptop was put to S3 sleep
* Laptop was resumed from S3 sleep, the hub was not detected anymore; the syslog says "USB disconnect" to that particular device. The external keyboard was re-detected, but now is running in a funny power state described above.
These issues did not exist when I use a different laptop running Debian 7/oldstable (wheezy).
Here's the lsusb output before sleep (after the USB hub was attached the laptop):

I have some years experience of linux & programming, but I don't really know whats "under the hood" in a PC. I decided to learn. I have two hard drive disks in one of my computers, so I decided to see if I could run it with only one. I removed the voltage from one of the hard drive disks and when I booted, of course the cumputer gave me the message: "Disk failure, insert system disk and restart". When I reconnected the HDD in my computer and booted once again, I got the same message.
This brings me to my first question: Why can't I start my computer as usual after unplugging and replugging one of my two hard drive disks? All cables remains the same, what has changed? The first question remained unanswered and I tried to install a OS on one of the HDDs when the other was disconnected. This worked fine and I set up a windows/debian dual boot. Perfect! But after reconnecting the disconnected HDD I tried to do the same thing (so I would install a new version of the system I started out with, a windows/debian dual boot). I formatted and installed windows on one of my HDDs again. It was bootable.
When I installed debian and let the installer set up Grub, I got the message "Missing operating system" when booting. I tried to install only linux (without windows) and I reached the same resault: after unplugging and replugging one of my 2 HDDs I can no longer boot a debian operating system, though the installation runs without a problem. What has happened? What do I need to do to be able to install a working debian system on this computer? (installing windows works fine) Has the settings of my BIOS changed when I unplugged?

I just updated my computer, from Debian Lenny to Squeeze. I have to say, the upgrade did not go as smooth as I thought it would. First of all, every so often the upgrade process would prompt me for information about this and that. Since I'm not an IT person, I just try to select the default for everything. Nevertheless, it's definitely harder to upgrade then Ubuntu which does not prompt for too much and is totally graphical.
After all is said and done, a whole bunch of errors appear at startup. It seems though none of the errors or of any consequence. They say stuff like, this will be redundant in the future and so forth.
However there is one big item that does not work. It's the graphical user interface. I get an error about X. server being not available. I am using NVIDIA GeForce 2MX graphics card which requires NVIDIA legacy 96xx driver. I have updated or installed the 686 version of the kernel versus the default 486. However I cannot get the graphical user interface to start. Worst, without a graphical user interface, I cannot even browse the net and then copy and paste into the commandline.
Also, I have tried switching the X.org configuration file from nvidia to nv just try to make it work graphically, without success. Yes, the graphics were working fine with the NVIDIA driver before I upgraded to squeeze. I have checked out all the forums and tried reinstalling the NVIDIA driver without any success. Without a graphical user interface apt-get has no way of even telling me what packages are available to install.

Unfortunately I only minored in Computer Science, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and unfortunately I stopped using Linux after those classes. During this time I actually really got to like Linux (the class used Ubuntu but my friend who was majoring in it got Debian for me).
I only got a C in that class because like I said, it was something I minored in. Anyways, my main question is how do I install Debian on a USB (not a FAT32) so that if I move it from home to work or something, I can just boot up the USB and start using Debian on that computer (assuming it has something else like Windows for example)?

Note: I use debian testing.GUI very frequently completely breaks for me, it looks like this:URL....It usually happens after a short freeze or after going back to GUI from TTY (which doesn't display because of a known Nvidia proprietary driver issue).And sometimes my laptop goes into sleep state by itself while it's being used. This is lenovo ideapad z510 laptop, with intel+nvidia GPU (nvidia Optimus). To use nvidia GPU I use bumblebee.

I recently came to Debian. As I have an ati card, I tried the proprietary drivers first, but then came back to radeon (open-source). In the process, I think I may have broke my xorg.conf . Sometimes, when the monitor goes into sleep mode, when I came back, the screen remains black (sometimes I see just the cursor).
Here is my xorg.conf

Also, I have lots of backups in my X11 folder, like xorg.conf.fglrx-3, xorg.conf.original-1, or backup.xorg.conf. Is it safe to remove them? What should I do about the main xorg.conf?

I have set up a hdparm configuration file ( /etc/udev/rules.d/50-hdparm.rules ) with :

This works correct when I power on my system, however after waking my computer from sleep mode , /dev/sda appears to operate with APM .
Is there a way I can make this setting to be persistent ,i.e. APM disabled when waking up from sleep mode?
I am running Debian Jessie x64.

I have a Powerbook G4 1.67Ghz. My problem is that if I sleep my laptop by choosing sleep from the desktop menu in kde then it sleeps and wakes fine but when it wakes the pointer is locked to the x axis and tends to snap back to the same point when I'm not actively manipulating it. This is also the case if my laptop sleeps after 10mins inactivity. If I sleep the laptop by closing the lid this problem does not occur. When it wakes all is working well.

Installed Squeeze into my Thinkpad T410 and noticed that when I closed the laptop lid, the moon icon does not light up.Reopening the lid and will see a screensaver password screen immediately.Does this means that the laptop does not have Sleep (or is it called hibernate) mode enable? I'm running Debian testing. I am running the iwlwifi driver and I have an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 card. I have a fresh install of iwlwifi and network-manager. After sleep or after being shutdown, network manager cannot find my network's SSID. I have to wait ~5 minutes for it list my SSID. I dual boot this laptop with Windows 7, and on Windows, I connect to the internet instantly after boot. I did not have this issue before, the only thing I have changed was installing blueman and the necessary components. After I installed and uninstalled these bluetooth components, I have been getting these problems. Here are some outputs:

I have Debian Jessie 8 installed on a Acer 5733 Laptop. After I closed the screen, it goes sleeping, and when I open it, aleatory, it freezes. I don't have graphical interface, and the tty are not accessible. Sometimes, I get access to the computer 10 seconds, and then freeze.I have to shutdown the computer...and lose my work I was doing.I thought it was a X-problem, but the tty don't work too, so it's not ? When I restart the computer, it shows Code: Select allclearing orphaned inode <some inode number.

I am overseas at the moment, and the wife has been having issues with my machine. After many hours of trying to to talk her through doing things, one of my geeks suggested installing Teamviewer and doing it myself.
I have SSH and WinSCP from work. I am using amd64 so the first attempt to install failed due to unmet dependencies. Then I read the MultiArch bit, installed ai32-libs and the install seemed to work. When my wife tried to start TV, it stated that the daemon was not running. When I try to restart the daemon, I get this.....

I did an install of Jessie on a Macbook 2,1 to be the machine's only operating system, but it won't boot, showing only a black screen with a blinking cursor. I think the problem is caused by a mistake I made during the installation process, where I selected yes for the prompt:This machine's firmware has started the installer in UEFI mode but it looks like there may be existing operating systems already installed using "BIOS compatibility mode". If you continue to install Debian in UEFI mode, it might be difficult to reboot the machine into any BIOS-mode operating systems later.
If you wish to install in UEFI mode and don't care about keeping the ability to boot one of the existing systems, you have the option to force that here. If you wish to keep the option to boot an existing operating system, you should choose NOT to force UEFI installation here. Force UEFI installation?

I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my PC using NVIDIA GeForce 9150LE graphics and HP w2207h monitor. After using the Wubi installer and rebooting my computer, i select the ubuntu boot menu option and it says it is preparing to continue with the installation. after a countdown before it begins, my monitor goes to sleep. i used an eMachine monitor that i used in a previous installation of 9.10 that worked fine and reached the exact same problem. When booting from a live CD and selecting try without installing the screen comes up with a blinking underscore, and both monitors went to sleep. I believe its a problem with the graphics chip, but i dont know how to fix it.

I have a strange problem in my new debian 8.3 LXDE install. Every time I boot my laptop it goes in to sleep mode automatically after a min. It is a default install and I have not configured any power management options. How do I find out the reason for the automatic sleep and how can I rectify it?

Just upgraded to Debian Jessie. I'm having a problem with the desktop and lockscreen that I never had before in Debian 7. Whenever I open the laptop to wake it up, there is very bad discoloration of the background. (screenshot : [URL] ..... )
Hardware is an IBM Lenovo T410 with no customizations. The graphics are factory nvidia. 3D acceleration works flawlessly, and I have no other issues except this background problem.

I just upgraded to Debian 6.0 squeeze 32 bit XFCE from Ubuntu on my old Dell PC. Installation went well, however, i can't get into X windows after reboot, the screen just displays garbage

Dell dimension 600Mhz/384M RAM/10G HDD
ATI RAGE pro 128
Any pointers on what should I do?
