I have a strange problem in my new debian 8.3 LXDE install. Every time I boot my laptop it goes in to sleep mode automatically after a min. It is a default install and I have not configured any power management options. How do I find out the reason for the automatic sleep and how can I rectify it?

I have Debian Jessie 8 installed on a Acer 5733 Laptop. After I closed the screen, it goes sleeping, and when I open it, aleatory, it freezes. I don't have graphical interface, and the tty are not accessible. Sometimes, I get access to the computer 10 seconds, and then freeze.I have to shutdown the computer...and lose my work I was doing.I thought it was a X-problem, but the tty don't work too, so it's not ? When I restart the computer, it shows Code: Select allclearing orphaned inode <some inode number.

Two issues:
1. start Firefox, but it goes into sleep mode. no matter reboot machine, etc.
2. after entered a static IP address in network manager, fedora hanged in boot process, halted in "send email" which is one of many processes at boot up.
Used DHCP, can ping to other PC in LAN, but can't go internet.
I upgraded a wheezy box in qemu to jessie (without systemd!) and now I didn't get an output from the console to a hostterminal using curses.System and grub starts with terminal output, but after around 6 to 8 lines of output the terminal gets black. As far as I found out it seems that the init process switches to graphical output. I tried out all found kernel options from nomodeset up to nofb,Are their other options to stop switching to framebuffer and graphical mode.

I have to hold on to the key that I want typed for about 1 whole second for it to be entered... the mouse click is okay, it's just the keyboard.Here's a rough outline of what happened, and the significants events that took place on the desktop that this is happening on.The computer originally had Debian Lenny on it. At some point of time, I just started getting everything from backports... and after some things and hops later, the computer does in fact report having Debian 6.0.Anyway - I again did an upgrade... and now the problem occurs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently came to Debian. As I have an ati card, I tried the proprietary drivers first, but then came back to radeon (open-source). In the process, I think I may have broke my xorg.conf . Sometimes, when the monitor goes into sleep mode, when I came back, the screen remains black (sometimes I see just the cursor).
Here is my xorg.conf

Also, I have lots of backups in my X11 folder, like xorg.conf.fglrx-3, xorg.conf.original-1, or backup.xorg.conf. Is it safe to remove them? What should I do about the main xorg.conf?
I managed to install Jessie on my new Lenovo Ideapad 100 and have been trying to put the finishing touches on it. I downloaded FDPowermonitor and the icon showed up right away. Then after a few minutes it went away and hasn't shown back up.
I think I need to modify /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart to include @fdpowermon but I cannot figure out how to have the permission and use a editor I understand.
I just log into LXDE with root... but there has got to be a better way yes? But that didn't work anyway...
So I just recently got an HP pro 1005 all in one PC and tried to install Debian 8.2 on it through a bootable Uefi USB, however, when trying to install, there's always an error like this: "The attempt to mount a file system with type ext4 in LVM VG debian-vg, LV root at /failed."
Also, no matter how many times I completely wipe every partition, there's always this message at the start of the installation saying Windows is already installed as BIOS compatibility mode, and asks me if i still want to install as Uefi, I was wondering if that had anything to do with my error.
I checked the drives health and there wasn't any kind of problems, passed all the tests.
I am using a old laptop as a server now and its running great! I would like to disable sleep/hibernation when I close the lid (i would prefer the screen still shut off if possible) ...
This has to be done via command line because I don't use a gui ...
I decided to update all the software on my computer. Fortunately, it upgraded kernel version 3.14 to 3.16. I was happy to learn that suspend now worked on my laptop by calling pm-suspend, but it did not worked by closing the lid. So I search and found on debian's website that installing systemd and adding some config lines in /etc/systemd/logind.conf would sove the issue. So I followed the procedure and did like instructed, to end up with a computer that boots on black screen.
The last verbrose line I see on boot up is "kvm disabled by bios" and then it shutdown down the screen. The computer works, as I can login and shutdown by doing those operation blindly.
I tried removing systemd but it still does not work. If I use the old kernel 3.14 I can boot without any problem, but if I use kernel 3.16, I boot to a black screen. I remember successfully booting in 3.16 before installing systemd.
Many processes enter in disk sleep mode and stops (Hang) and return to work after 10 to 20 seconds.
In System Monitor i get "Disk Sleep" like this:

Processor: AMD Athlon II X2
Display: ATI HD 4670
Motherbord: Gigabyte
System: openSUSE 11.2 x86_64
The problem still exists after system update and i try run other distributions like kubuntu and i don't get this error. I also change Hard Disk but the problem is still ongoing.
Note: I use debian testing.GUI very frequently completely breaks for me, it looks like this:URL....It usually happens after a short freeze or after going back to GUI from TTY (which doesn't display because of a known Nvidia proprietary driver issue).And sometimes my laptop goes into sleep state by itself while it's being used. This is lenovo ideapad z510 laptop, with intel+nvidia GPU (nvidia Optimus). To use nvidia GPU I use bumblebee.

We have two Server with an onboard "Atheros AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10)" and a quad "Realtek RTL8111/8168B" network adapter connected via PCIe. One of the servers is running Debian Wheezy with a custom 3.2.53Kernel (compiled from linus repository) and the second one runs Debian Jessie with stock kernel. Both are running XFCE4.
Each of the computers are connected to a local network (192.168.0.1 respectively .2) and to the intranet of our institute (10.20.0.81 respectively .82). After a random time they are not accessible via the intranet (ping doesnt work, ssh gives no route to host). However, i can still ping them over the local network. Also, at the moment i try to establish a ssh connection over the local network, the computer is again acessible via the intranet.
I already tried the boot options acpi=off and pcie_aspm=off without success. Additionally we switched from the onboard Atheros NIC to the Realtek, but everything stays the same. Therefore i don't believe that it is driver related.
For me it looks like that the NIC goes to an energy saving mode which is not handled correctly by our intranet. However, how can i avoid that the NIC goes to energy saving state? Is there a way to disable the D-states?
I'm using a laptop as a mini server, but I haven't figured out how to sleep the display. I am not using the gnome desktop - I shut the lid but the display stays on.
ps - I should note - this is Debian 5.0.3 PPC version running on a PowerBook G4
I do recall being able to at least figure out Debian enough that I got my wireless working (a few years back). Today I popped in a fresh Live LXDE DVD. I can't find that my wireless is recognized, nor can I find any graphical network management utilities. Nothing network related. Perhaps its all in the command line, but I'm not too familiar with it (though I'm not averse to following instructions if I can use that to simply fix this issue).
I did look at documentation first. To the best of my ability anyway. I could not use it to help myself. Once I get internet working, at least I can trouble shoot on the Debian installation itself, which makes the process much easier. Having to switch out to a Windows installation is a pain.
The first issue is adding launch icons to the task bar. I can add launchers, but cannot figure out how to link them to applications. It is only half a problem, because putting links on the desktop is easy, but I prefer having launchers on the task bar so the desktop is not cluttered.The big problem is placement of desktop icons. I like to put icons on the right side of the screen, and more importantly, I like to group related icons. For example, if I had a folder or document for Linux and another for Debian, I want them grouped together. I also like arranging by category: folders in one column, documents and images in another and launchers (if any) in a third. However, if there is way to enable desktop icons to be moved, I cannot figure it out. Icons are fixed on the left side of the screen with folders first in alphabetical order, then documents/images in alphabetical or numerical order, and launch icons last.My guess is icons can be moved, but I am not computer literate enough to figure it out. It does not make sense that the task bar can be placed on the top, bottom, left or right, but desktop icons cannot be moved. I have tried every preference setting, but there are no relevant options.Am I over-looking something that is not obvious or is it a strange deficiency with LXDE?

I couldnt configure the network during the installation because I just have a dsl modem and not a router... so the configuration of the network failed.... after the installation I started debian... and was surprised about the lack of "basic system configuration"-software that had been installed... I couldnt find aptitude or whats the debian-Update-Programm called .... instead I found OpenOffice... HAE? then I tried to configure internet access..... so I started a terminal and tried to start pppoeconf... but the program wasnt found! ARRRGG! What am I doing wrong here.... However, The LXDE Desktop System can't boot when i reboot. What can i do next ？
I can't get debian 5.0.4 i386 to load I can get as far as root for crash repair during boot-up but much further than that and my monitor turns off. Ubuntu 8.04.4 live cd (kernel is 2.6.24 i believe) works but says I have to enter noapic in the boot string. APIC is on and greyed out i.e. not accessible in BIOS --- might be non-compliant Only thing I can think of is to add acpi=off in GRUB entry but the change doesn't seem to work or take effect. I added it to the relevant entries in menu.lst in grub and it still didn't take effect. Grub must be getting its config info somewhere else...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running an old P3 with 512 of Ram.I installed Opensuse 11.2 with the KDE desktop, and then I went online and used the one-click install to install the LXDE desktop.Now I'm trying to get my machine to boot directly to LXDE.If I end a KDE session, I can select LXDE as a new session and get into it fine. It seems to run well on this machine. But if I shutdown from LXDE, my next boot sends me straight into KDE. It seems the only way I can get to LXDE is to be in KDE first, which is kind of defeating the whole reason why I wanted a light weight and quick booting desktop for this machine.Am I missing something? I thought Opensuse automatically rebooted back into whatever desktop was used last?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed lxde from a live cd and can't boot into anything. At first, when I rebooted, the computer went to grub>, so I used grub commands to find the grub menu lst. It was in (hd0,5). So I made that the root and grub said it was successful. I rebooted, now I get error 25. Was I supposed to enable one of the boot options in the setup? The setup showed two boot options, MBR and root (I think), both disabled. I just clicked continue. Did I mess up the install setup?

If I use the Debian system without the LXDE desktop, and it is normal. Meanwhile, I only installed the framebuffer driver, and can't find the right GPU driver to install.
Is caused by the lack of the GPU driver ? and what should i do ?

Asus u43f wont go into sleep/suspend mode. Either manually from the shut down menu or by closing the lid. the screen will turn off but the various lights do not turn of and hard drive continue to spin.
I found this suggested test with a google search but no fix

I'm running Debian testing. I am running the iwlwifi driver and I have an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 card. I have a fresh install of iwlwifi and network-manager. After sleep or after being shutdown, network manager cannot find my network's SSID. I have to wait ~5 minutes for it list my SSID. I dual boot this laptop with Windows 7, and on Windows, I connect to the internet instantly after boot. I did not have this issue before, the only thing I have changed was installing blueman and the necessary components. After I installed and uninstalled these bluetooth components, I have been getting these problems. Here are some outputs:

Is it possible to install Debian 8.2 lxde WITHOUT Libreoffice? I have successfully installed it on an eeepc with a 4 gb ssd
But then removed Libreoffice to have room for files.
It works great! It would be nice to just install Debian lxde without Libreoffice, which I do not use, I prefer gnumeric and vim.
